Growing up 10-15 at any given time. The 15 didnt last long IIRC. Thats not including puppies. We also lived on a ranch so we had the room.

At moms we had 5 and here 4 for 2 weeks. 4 is a good number.

and when dad goes to rehab I will have his 2 APBT.

Including fosters.... seven. I'd very much like to never have that many again, thank you very much. :)

I have only had the two dogs I have now and I don't intend to get another unless my living situation changes significatly but my dad has always had lots of dogs (all rescues up to as many as 5 or 6 at a time I think) and my best friend who runs the shelter where I got my two dogs currently has 7.

6 :p At the time it was 3 of "ours (Maddie, and my roommates each had one; Mia and Tucker) and 3 fosters
But it was only for about a week, It was doable but we were much more comfortable with 5... but 4 was our comfort level.
I don't think I could do 4 by myself for an extended period of time... short term, yea... but long term, eh. But with help its much more doable

Me 3 I could/do ;) but 2 is just about "perfect" ;)

The two I have now. I have The Red Puppy on occasion for a week or two, and that's always fun but I love sending him home. Really love it!

I always wish for just one dog. Maybe if I had a useful significant other, I would think of it differently but... I like the sound of one dog.

I've only had three at one time but for a very short time!

I think 2-3 is my limit. I've house-sat often for people with 4-7 dogs at one time and I'm not a big fan of having that many dogs, even if it's not a space issue it just isn't what I want when I have dogs.

In my little apartment? 5 - my one permanent dog and 4 fosters. 5 was too much, especially since 3 were puppies.

To be honest, I liked being a one-dog household when the one dog was Eve, because she's so happy to interact with me all day. She completely fills my dog niche. I almost feel guilty for having Wink, because Eve definitely notices that she doesn't get ALL THE ATTENTION EVER anymore.

I'm currently full up with Eve, Wink and my foster kitten Rodriguo.

I can do 15-20+ at the canine center, but I could never bring that many home.

This past winter for a few weeks I had a full dogbox I was caring for (my dogbox has 8 compartments that easily can fit 2 dogs per compartment). The most I had at once (including my 3) was 11 and we were traveling for a race.

Fingers crossed I get to move soon though because when I do my pack goes from 3 to 22 and counting!!!!

Here's pics from this winter doing morning chores before heading over to the race site when I had the pack of 11 (not all dogs were dropped). Yes I'm doing said chores in my pjs hehehe

I have 2 at the moment but as I've grown fond of Toy Dogs, I must say I'm looking to have more! ;)

3 in my parent's house.

I would really like to have 3 (or even a few more) fosters, eventually, but that won't happen in this apartment. If I move to a bigger place, I'd definitely try 2, see how it goes, and maybe even 3 or 4, but that depends on time and space, and probably won't happen for another few years.

If I eventually have a fenced in yard? I think 5 or 6 would be a good number. I doubt I could handle more than that.

I do think 3's the safest number of dogs to have. Less than that equals less fun. More than that, you'll struggle to have fun because there would be alot on your hands to handle.. :p

That's subjective. Depends if all the dogs get along, if you need to crate and rotate one or two or a group of them, what you do with them and the spaces you have to put them. Have a fenced in yard, you can do more even with large groups of dogs.

I've lived at Dekka's for months on end. Combined we've had 10-12 dogs including her pack, mine and fosters. Take groups of them up to play agility, go swim in the river, or hike. Take a pack of them to do horse chores. Some play loose in the house, others in the yard for a while. I don't want to own that many, but we've have no issue whatsoever for 4+ months at a time, including packing all of them up to go to trials.

Thats very true Maf. Just because one person doesn't want (or can't) handle more dogs, doesn't mean that someone, or even a family couldn't have more.

We have 7 dogs here and they all 'have fun'.

I think my personal limit is going to be 3 or 4. Probably 3 until maybe when Summer is really old and slowed down a lot. I do like just having two though. It's nice and easy and some days that's just what I miss.

When we've had 5, it's been a breeze. But all the paps get along great. For some reason #6 really seems to be the breaking point for me.

I think it completely depends on the dogs, too. It's pretty unlikely I will ever have/keep 3 dogs I need to crate and rotate, or who get off the wall without a higher amount of mental stimulation/exercise, or who have medical problems that need monitoring/medicating/etc. But having 3 dogs who are "easy" or "average" and get along, and one more who might be DA or super high energy, and one more who is older and needs medicine and walks slower? I could probably pull that off.

We have 6. Which is doable for us. In the future, though, we'll probably hover around 4. We didn't really seek out to have 6, two just snuck in there while I was waiting on my smooth Chow to be born.

I could never have just one dog, and even just two feels odd.
