dogos with logos on pogos!

as pops said, 1 man didnt create an entire breed...
it was one mans ideal, and an enitre group of people.

the doberman was 1 mans ideal that took many generations to perfect, he didnt complete his "prefect breed" without alot of help from alot of people.

and weve still not been given any indication other than "from champion lines" (i love how byb's and mills and petstores also use that line about EVERY dog in the place...) of any kind of titles held by these dogs.

many dogs like shepherds, collies, dobermans may be willing to protect you but could do little against an intruder with a pit bull
Ah, but my collies and a gun or two might ... but then again, have we reached the point where the intruders and the pit bulls are blood thirsty mutants? Then we just have to stand in the sunlight, right? :p

And on a serious note ... descendants of the best aren't necessarily the best. What HAS your breeding stock done to prove its worthiness (aside from OFA)? ... A lot more needs to be placed on temperament and ability to perform.

AND........he was the town dog catcher! (slash tax collector) I'm sure that helped give him access to many breeds, and access to 'dispose' of the unwanted dogs from his 'program' too, way back when and nobody cared or checked up on his "methods"

Good question Grammy!

I'd take a good Doberman over anything. They have the strength, speed and agility that a lot of big dogs don't have... and tenactity and will to protect....naturally. OP...what do you think a Doberman is? A Doberman IS a mastiff. They are incredibly family oriented. Dogs that are protective generally make wonderful family dogs because they desire nothing more than to be close to their people.

As far as your fear of the way this country is going, I'm with you on that. I just fail to see your logic in thinking any dog will protect you when they come down our streets with tanks and big guns, helicopters and any kind of explosive they want to use on people who may try to rebel. What the heck good is a dog? Any dog? LOL!

You wanted feed back. You got it. Your idea sucks.

If that day comes, I'll be hugging my dog.

just remmeber collie, you also have to make sure those sneaky shadows dont catch up to you, or that you dont fall for those zombie-vampire-ish-ness mutants evil tricks!

and i agree, i personally want to run off hide in the woods raise and grow my own food and become as self sufficent as possible...
but should this world that the op is describing come about...not even the back end of beyond is gonna save you...
having a dog is good companionship and can be good protection from a hands on kind of intruder...
but folks have GUNS...unless your dog is wearing its bulletproof vest...i dont think theres a breed in anyones wildest imaginations that can stand up to a couple bullets to the chest. and what happens when food gets scarce... its great having the ability to hunt with your dog, a good catch dog is a great idea...but what happens when those wild animals get scarce...what happens when meat is hard to find and youve now got a very large very high metabolism high energy dog to feed as well as yourself.
if your realy worried about the state of the country (and in all truth the world at that point) youd be better finding an already developed sturdy breed for protection and to HELP hunt and get yourself a gun and learn how to use it correctly.
id also suggest learning how to use a crossbow, bow and arrow and sling correctly as well as trapping courses...then start converting your home and land into a small secure homestead capable of feeding you and your MANY MANY dogs...

and as fallout has proven...a dog does you absolutly no good against supermutants carrying firehydrants on a stick, rad scorpians or raiders...

a deathclaw however...now one of THOSE might be a good "end of the world" kind of critter!

i want one, iz gonna name him Fluffy!

I know that my plan for the Zombie Apocalypse and/or next Civil War involves a load of supplies, a quantity of munitions, a Fila and a couple Aussies and a nice spot in the woods in the mountains. The Aussies are fabulous watchdogs and will quite useful in driving the mountain sheep down to where the Fila can hold them in my firing range. There's the dinner problem solved. And let's see, Filas instinctively know how to sneak up and disarm an attacker (check), used to hunt wild jaguar (there's that pesky cougar, bear and human problem solved). The Aussie isn't going anywhere without me and has the coat to survive in pretty much every single outdoor condition...

I think I'm covered. :rofl1:

nope zoom...you still need a deathclaw...
im telling you!

dethclaws rock...
shame though, im not realy a tech kind of person so im not quite wure who im going to get to design the mind control helmet, and without one there pretty much realy pets but instead killing machines who will kill the hand that feeds them then eat it too...

hmm, im thinking thats a behavioural problem, ill have to adress that once i begin my breeding program.

Dethclaws for the future!
they shall all be named things like fluffy and princess...you know, just to catch folks off guard!
"yeah come on in and meet fluffy"...
"oh this nice little dog must be fluffy"
*CHOMP*
nope, HES fluffy...sorry about that whole eating you thing.

ETA: coop, that would be awesome, you and me...if this guy can develop his own breed of dog all by himself within 5 generations...im SURE we can figure out deathclaws and have a viable new species in just a few years!

Need a dog to hunt humans? Amstaff all the way....when Sal plays hide and go seek with the grand kids he always wins. He is the best human hunter I have ever seen. Of course I give the kids dog cookies when they go off to hide ;)

Actually I would say your breed already exists....GSD... your about 110 years to late.

Ah, so Will Smith's dog was JUST a GSD so that must've been the problem.

I think about every dog will have the same amount of ability to protect you from the apocalypse (that would be zero ability). If that comes, then we're all screwed. Personally my family I'm sure will get together and we have about enough guns to arm a small militia plus we have a pit bull (which you stated were blood thirsty monsters), a plott hound, a couple danes that have been schutzhund trained, some working bred JRTs, a lab, and of course the useless paps (but they're not very much to feed). Oh and we have a large ranch that is full of exotic game animals like antelope. So there's my plan right there....

Could you please supply me with some information on BREEDING one of these "fluffies" ? What will I need for starters?

I'd like to start my own line of them please :D
A natural habitat and massive amounts of radiation from a nuclear attack on the US is all you really need to create these wonderful creatures. Also a nuclear fallout bunker and some weird scientists...perhaps the OP can help you though. :D

Seriously, they are badass, they can put a hurt on my level 18 guy in Fallout 3.
