I'll just come out and say it.

I'm sure some people will disagree with the decision, but people are free to have their own opinions. I'm only posting this here to squash any rumors or behind-the-back-talking that may occur when I eventually get my signature updated.

Ada has been rehomed to my in-laws. She has always been a little "off" when it comes to interacting with other dogs, but recently her inappropriate behavior has escalated into something much, much worse. Realistically, we had two decisions - let the inlaws have her, or put her to sleep.

To make a very long story short, she starts fights with every dog in the house. She has attacked Revy while Revy was asleep. Kaylee's got more than half a dozen wounds on her face right now, all because Kaylee was in a dog bed that Ada wanted for herself.

And it's not just to dogs - Ada's aggression issues have crossed over to humans - or at least to me. I've had a few very scary episodes of Ada trying her damndest to do to me what she does to the other dogs... all over seemingly simple things like moving my chair while she's under my desk, or closing a door that she'd rather have open.

Ada's behavior was beginning to have a drastically negative effect on the behavior of the other dogs... especially when two of them aren't the forgiving type.

She has been seen by a vet, and there's nothing wrong with her, medically, to cause this.

She's a completely different dog with my inlaws though - they were the ones that had her for the first year of her life. After her latest rampage (against Kaylee) we sent her to their house to "cool off" for a few weeks.

Today they asked if they could keep her. We told them they could.

Please, no flames.

Honestly, it sounds best for all involved. The main concern is the dog's welfare and it sounds like she is much better there as well so that really should be the end of it IMNSHO.

Being responsible for a dog doesn't mean keep in in YOUR house come hell or high water to me. You're keeping her, yourself, and your other dogs happy, healthy, safe, and well cared for. This is a non-flammable decision as far as I'm concerned.

Yep, definitely sounds like it's for the best for everyone involved. I don't envy the decision though but you did the best you could.

FLAME!

Ok, for real though, I know you did what is best for both Ada, the other dogs at your house, and you :)
Agreed!

We had to rehome one of our dogs because of the same issues. He would attack Rylie and Chloe for no reason. He went to a home where he was an only dog and is very loved.

:( I'm sure it was a difficult decision for you, but it sounds like it's for the best. I always loved seeing pictures of Ada, though, there's something about her I just thought was SO cute. I'll miss her!

It is never an easy decision to rehome a dog. And I have experience in being face with a no win situation and then having people(not in my shoes) flaming me for it even 2 yrs later. You did what was right for you and Ada and ensured she was in a safe and loving home. It is easy for someone to sit on the other side of a computer screen and flame someone and say they would not do such and such when they are not in the situation. So no flaming with come from me.

Doesn't seem like you've done anything to deserve getting flamed, I'm sure others understand that (seems so!)

You did what was best for you, your other dogs, and for Ada herself. Rehoming a dog isn't easy, but at least you still get to see her with family!

Sounds like a win win win for all involved. Only you know your dog, your home and your situation.. you owed nobody an explanation. I'm glad to hear she is happy, I know it must've been a tough decision for you!

I don't see any reason to flame either. You made the decision that was safest for her, you and your other dogs. You took your responsibility to her seriously, that's why you took care to make sure that she's in a safe place with good people.

I'm sorry you had to rehome her, that can't be easy. But I don't think you have anything to feel guilty about.

Flames? No flames here. I would never hold rehoming a dog for a good reason against someone. It sounds like it's a good solution for all involved and I hope Ada does well with them :)

*whispers behind your back* :p

Just kidding, I know you made the right decision for everyone, and honestly, I don't think you had to explain yourself seeing as how its your dog and your house, but whatever :)

YOU EBIL PERSON!

No, seriously, it sounds like the best for all involved. They love her, she loves them and no one gets extra ventilation holes.
