VIctor doesn't notice until he stops...then it is a different story. He has run himself until he is so sore he yikes to move and ran that stob of a weed up through the skin of his leg and out the other side. Mary is as brave as a woman can be but you can tell it hurts her because she shakes.:(..she did that when she tore her breast when she had pups, and when she had pancrititis, it must have been just awful for her to shake like that.

Smudge's is high. I caught fur in the dremel, and he didn't say a word.

Cider's sucks. She's a drama queen. I hold her paw, and she doesn't want that she starts screaming like I'm beating her.. If she's on a barking rampage and will not cease... If I gently shut her muzzle she screams and whimpers..

My mom thinks I'm abusive because Cider is noisy.. I've held nail clippers in my hand and her in my lap, not touching a paw, clippers not even open and she's started screaming. She's above average wimpy, whether something is going on or not. So I get yelled at on a regular basis I'm obviously harming her, even if I'm 5 feet away.

Ronin feels no pain, I swear. The darn dog can crash into walls, fall off cliffs, trample through nettles, or bonk himself on the furniture without even noticing it. I found a HUGE 4 inch gash on his leg a few weeks ago and it was actually in the process of healing - he hadn't made any indication that he'd torn himself open!

Ilsa is a wuss to a certian extent. She milks her owies for all theyr'e worth - she won't put up a fuss unless there's someone around. When she and Besame got into a fight and I had to take Ilsa to the emergency vet (big hole in the side of her head), she was bouncing around the ER, poking her nose into the vets' pockets looking for cookies!

Dobermans, as a rule, are extremely stoic dogs. Ronin's sister Ginna was half dead from an obstruction before she let out even the smallest indication that anything was wrong - which is why I think Dobermans "crash" when they're sick. One minute they're seemingly fine, the next minute they're almost dead. They just don't let you know they're sick or in pain.

Joey has tremendous pain tolerance, well he pretty much had to in order to survive this summer. Whenever I think about what he must have felt I start to tear up. I remember just being amazed at how still he stood while they changed his bandages and took scrapings of his wound. I think you have to be pretty tough to do that with a huge open sore that goes halfway down your back. He's definitely my inspiration.

Roxie doesn't seem to feel pain much, but she does get scared very easily. So it's hard to tell if she's reacting from the fear or the pain.

I've heard Gunnar yelp 2 times, ever. Both where when Daisy's weapon of a tail caught him in the eye. Otherwise, nothing phases him. Stepped on, banging into things. He had a sprained foot and still wanted to play ball. Same with when he had pano, he'd be limping but would still want to play.

Daisy yelped when we used the e-collar on her to break her door crashing habit. I've seen her spin around real fast while playing and catch the meat of her thigh right on the corner of a table, to the point where she was holding it in the air, but not a sound came out of her.

Bruzer is a wimp. He cries when you cut his nails, if he gets stepped on, pretty much anything.

I think things like running thru briars, jumping down cliffs, all that stuff is normal dog activity for a lot of them, which is why you don't hear them complaining.

Rumor ran full-speed into a chain link fence, bounced backward, fell on the ground, got up with a "WTF? Oops." expression, and then proceeded to run off again.

That must have hurt, but she never seems to react to pain. She slams her head on things (HARD) all the time and never blinks an eye. Just like Dash, I won't know if I've accidentally dremeled too far and got her quick until I see blood.

Herschel ripped out both of his front dew claws (separate occasions) while playing and didn't notice. The first time, his entire paw was covered with blood while were were playing fetch in the park. I didn't want to fuss over it so we kept playing for 30 minutes, then went for a quick walk. He didn't even flinch when we poured hydrogen peroxide on it! The second one ripped halfway out, dangled for about 10 days, and then broke. He didn't care. He's indestructible.

Nala, on the other hand, will yelp and run over to us as soon as something remotely spooks her.

Beau is pathetic. He gets shots or something and he's going to milk it for allit's worth. He cries every time he gets a shot. The other day he was being silly and jumped and bumped his head and sat there and whimpered for a while. Oddly enough though, when he ripped off his dewclaw he didn't make any noise or seem upset.

Rose is a little tomboy and doesn't even flinch- unless you grab her around the middle and get her ribs, then she gets spooked.

Nikki is okay, and Trey just doesn't show much expression at all.

Rah is ridiculously insensitive (except when i do something he doesn't want, and then he acts like the world is killing him). He's run the pads off his feet on three separate occassions and I only noticed afterwards when I found blood everywhere. He of course soaks up the attention afterwards (and loved getting carried into my clinic - yes, I carried all 95 lbs of him into the clinic because by then, his 12 bleeding open raw pads were kinda getting to him), but while in the moment he didn't even slow down.

Berlin is just a baby, but she's pretty insensitive unless it involves her ears. She does wince when other dogs get stuck on her posts.

Tyler is a little more sensitive than the other two, but he's severely dysplastic and severely arthritic.

It's clear to me when Millie's in pain, but she doesn't freak out. She tells me with her eyes, and when she gets cactus in her, she doesn't even yelp, just makes her way over to me, sits close, and put her paw up for me to take the cactus out.
Lucy yelps, winces, and squirms. When I get to close to her quick she doesn't waste a second in telling me I'm too close.

Abbey doesn't even know what pain is. A couple of years ago she nearly severed one of her digital pads off and still wanted to keep playing ball! She required surgery to reattach it, and keeping her off the paw was nearly impossible. Hutch on the other hand couldn't be more of a big baby, he absolutley loves the attention he gets when he gives a yelp, completely my fault because he is getting reinforced for his crying. This is a work in progress for me, but when those big brown eyes look up at me.....Seagle, he's in the middle of the other two.

This is a true story, from Auggie's breeder:

"Puppies went outside today and RIPPED around. Big fun but wind is crazy. Auggie is going up and down little stairs (meaning not big rise) However he did launch him self off the top of our deck, landed on his side and without missing a beat ran after Georgia. Had me scared but didn't phase him. Some are just daredevils."

I read that... and I KNEW I had picked the right pup. I just knew.
He doesn't like when he gets stepped on, but he's rarely phased by anything else. I think he's only been stepped on a few times so it startles him more than hurts him.

Gonzo will yelp LOUDLY, if you accidentally poke him. He is the most sensitive little wussy boy!

Fozzie has really high pain tolerance. I've never actually heard him yelp, and plenty of people have stepped on his feet/tail... hehe, especially me. I'm super clumsy.
