DC is thriving. Which means traffic is thriving. Which means I am a frustrated little girl...
It really does depend on the industry though. My husband and my background is in IT, and thanks to government contracts (and then the spinoffs in the private sector when people get tired of government work) the industry never really suffered here. Because of that, people flocked here by the thousands, which means they're still building houses, building schools, building hospitals, etc. Thus, things are decent.
On the flip side, non-profits and a lot of non-technical, creative industries suffered immensely, even here.
