It is just DIABOLICAL over here. There are just no jobs :(

The councils are not really employing anyone, and the other sectors are making cut backs and savings... it's just mad.

Depends on where you are and what field you are in, but for the most part around here, it sucks. The only field that is booming right now is the health care field. There are TONS of jobs in health care and more get posted every day.

My sister is applying for nursing jobs. They cap them at 200 applications, and that can be filled within 24hrs. She has to check the websites every day.

DC is thriving. Which means traffic is thriving. Which means I am a frustrated little girl...

It really does depend on the industry though. My husband and my background is in IT, and thanks to government contracts (and then the spinoffs in the private sector when people get tired of government work) the industry never really suffered here. Because of that, people flocked here by the thousands, which means they're still building houses, building schools, building hospitals, etc. Thus, things are decent.

On the flip side, non-profits and a lot of non-technical, creative industries suffered immensely, even here.

There are jobs, people are hiring, but the numbers are down. That means even ads for retail jobs often contain requirements for 2 or more years in the industry, or even worse, steady employment. I don't know anyone out here, under 30 that can meet that requirement ;)

Possibly if I wasn't looking in a very underpopulated and rural area it might help :D But it's pretty crap everywhere by all accounts...

I am really worried about the healthcare field. Thought the housing bubble was bad? What are we going to do as the sick and diseased continue to overtake the young and healthy? who's going to pay the bills when there's nobody left to pick up the tab? a growing number of users of health care does mean we need more to care for them, but a shrinking number of people paying into that large pool of cash called insurance that pays the wages for all those workers, isn't a good sign. and as the number of those paying in gets smaller, the amounts they have to pay in go up and when you reach a certain point, people just opt out of the insanity. We're already at 1 dollar for every 5 spent in this country going towards health care. Should we really continue to put that many eggs in one basket?

Only a couple fields are thriving and everything else down to the guy working at shoe store has a degree. It's pretty frustrating to find a full time job anywhere near livable wages and wade through a potential interview process only to find out that they hired some intern out of college who they will then lay off in 6 months.

there are plenty of job openings around here, a mix of decent paying and lower. The high paying jobs are still around, but not a ton available, but if you have the skills and the drive, there are jobs to be had here

Tried getting a job for the summer, and no one's hiring. No one wants to hire for just 3 months, and when I lied about how long I could work I still couldn't get a job. That's in anything from vet med to waitering. Even the clinic I worked at in the past, who was ALWAYS hiring, couldn't hire due to the economy and had just let two people go.

I think the cleveland area is one they say is booming as far as the job market. Depends what you are looking for though. We have all kinds of call centers and a ton of IT things towards cleveland. My bfs company had a position open for summer help and no one applied that met the criteria which was just a hs grad and could handle cleaning in the heat

The whole healthcare/nursing field is hiring like mad is kind of a lie though. They pump that into you in school but people are coming out of school unable to find a job. So there really is not a bubble there to be bust. They only want experiences nurses as those are the ones leaving the field. If you are going into nursing make contacts during clinicals and don't be surprised if you have to interview multiple places. People are shocked they can not just walk into a hospital and get a job after hearing of this fake nursing shortage!

1 out of 5 dollars spent is on healthcare, there is a bubble. a big one. and we're fast approaching the point where the amount of people sucking the system dry and those that are able to pay are reaching a point of equilibrium, in fact I think we've reached it and now where just heading towards the point when those that that are able to pay are going to say it's not worth it. then the stuff hits the fan.

where we used to live is a distressed area. always leading the state in unemloyment, housing is cheapest, and the jobs pay the least. some major, major employers shut up shop there in the past couple years putting more stress on the area, yet they're building 2 new hospitals as we speak, to go along with the 3 they already have between 2 "cities" of a combined population of less than 100K. That's not including the urgent care facilities they already have as well, or walk in or ER. Those are just Hospitals, who also usually have the urgent care and er's along with them, some are stand alone as well.

That would be rare here. We are actually closing ours here. Its no big surprise that nurses get laid off. We have several locations for our hospital and are turning one into a nursing home now. They do open satellite buildings but not completely new hospitals. The clinic and metro are eating everything up. We are one of only three privately owned hospitals left in Northern ohio.

There is a lot of restructuring going on right now that you can not see. Some of the building and the paper work and the new charting is required so we can get paid. If we do not offer these services we are not in compliance. It is going to be to the point where we will have to keep home care nurses with pts 24/7 to make sure they do not come back to the hospital within 30 days. Which is basically where we are now.

The state psych hospital also just closed.

Which if anyone wants to make a ton come up with a GOOD computer charting system!

MEDENT.

One of our medical office clients uses this and they LOVE it. From what I see, it performs very well and as advertised.

ALL the others, HATE what they use. "Perfect Care" comes to mind. UGH. And the PCARE support team are rude and complete morons. They read their screens very well, but offer ZERO ability to think outside their little box.

Not in our area.
My husband is a doc and in charge of a service at 3 hospitals and they can't hire anyone. There are at least 20 job openings on his service alone. No experience is necessary because they have to go through 3 months training anyway and they can not get near enough people. And these nurses jobs are paying close to $50 a hour.
