I believe there is a time and place for swearing..

The more you swear the less of an impact it makes when you actually DO mean it.. ;) I was brought up in a very polite house, and anyone who has ever had their mouth washed out with washing up liquid would think twice about using bad language around my mother.. ;) Yeah, I was blowing bubbles out of my nose for several hours afterwards, but I learnt my lesson.

I only swear when it is REALLY called for.. It's not something that just trips out of my mouth constantly.. I can usually find another more appropriate word than f**k for a situation that is uncomfortable. Having said that, when I DO actually swear, people stop and listen..

It's like everything, if you nag nag nag on at your dog all the time, it stops listening to you.. People become immune to it.

I agree with this, but I swear in jest, not as part of my every day conversations.

So if I am in a particulalry bolshy mood I'll swear like a trooper - never at home :yikes: Although I think I have said the F word in front of my mum now by accident.

I don't need to swear to let people know when I am being serious... in fact, it's quite the opposite lol.... you just know!

I can swear as bad as anyone....worked in machine shops and factories for the first chunk of my adult life. And yes dear, it does make a guy feel better swearing at inanimate objects that aren't co-operating!! However, I try not to swear around kids, adults I don't know, or people that I know that don't like it....though it doesn't always happen, soetimes it'll slip now and then.

That's classified as "technical language." ;) I've run printing presses and industrial machines in my chequered past :rofl1:

Swearing at the equipment goes along with percussive maintenance.

I really break out the potty mouth when I watch a movie or a favorite comedian and hear a --Bleep--. I dont mind profanity at all. One of my good friends cracks me up with his profanity. He will ask someone in a hardware store or the like a question and he will use as much profanity as humanly possible. I dont know how he keeps a straight face. My mother hates profanity unless she is mad, then she warms up to it nicely. She judges the quality of my sisters husbands and boyfriends based on their use of profanity. Its kinda odd, usually the ones who dont cuss are the thieves, liars and abusers. Those guys (who my sisters drag in) that hide their profanity break it out in full force privately.

As far as the C word goes, I love it. I like to break it out when I am having a debate with a woman who is a better debater than myself. One slip of that word and her ability to focus on the issue without getting angry usually flies out the window and buys me more thinking time.

I meant the lack on THEIR part, lol. I rarely bother arguing with women either. Very few men, either, for that matter.
Oh! That is very different then LOL. I think usually in the instances I speak of you would have at least thought the C word. I argue quite a bit, but its only because so many people are wrong and they dont know it.

I'd likely have thought a whole lot worse, lol . . . but it's more fun to use big words that they have to stop and try to figure out before they know exactly how badly they've been insulted. Or an entire paragraph. I can string together a whole lot of "C" type words when I get wound up -- even if I have to get creative :D

But why waste energy arguing with stupid people? They won't change what passes for their minds and there are just too many of 'em out there.

Romy; I had to go look up
synesthesia
-- I used Wicki; hope it wasn't too far off.

Interesting phenomenon. Are all words visual? What do you experience when people say bad words? Nice words?

I'm very curious, I think it sounds wonderful (but perhaps not for you; just the idea of tangible words is fascinating.)

I swear. A lot. I have total control of it. Nothing ever slips out. I intend to say it if I am going to.

The only word that has ever bothered me was cornhole. It's not swearing but ugh. Gives me the jitters.
