Romy; I had to go look up -- I used Wicki; hope it wasn't too far off.

Interesting phenomenon. Are all words visual? What do you experience when people say bad words? Nice words?

I'm very curious, I think it sounds wonderful (but perhaps not for you; just the idea of tangible words is fascinating.)
Personally I really like it, and can't imagine how I could manage to function if I suddenly woke up one day without it.

My neurologist told me that it's basically a permanent LSD trip, lol. He said LSD does the exact same thing to people with normal brains.

Pretty much, all colors and sounds have letters, and when people combine them into words it makes a colorful abstract looking picture. The actual look of it spoken is influenced by volume, the quality of the speakers voice, and the language spoken. Different languages have different palettes. It's really difficult to understand the lyrics of songs, because the words and the music blend together into pretty nonsense (sometimes not so pretty, lol).

The biggest drawback has been with having PTSD, there was a lot of stimulation during the trauma that seemingly had nothing to do with it, but was tied in with the sensory input I got when it happened. And so a lot of the triggers seemed very random and like they had nothing to do with what happened. The doctors all agree that I wouldn't be nearly as bad off if I didn't have the synesthesia making everything extra vivid.

"Bad" words vs. "good" words don't really have a different quality to them by themselves. The F bomb looks like one of those giant swirly lollipops with blue yellow and white, so not like an evil cloud of death or anything. When words are said with malice, the person's voice definitely changes the quality to a coarser darker tone. Mainly in my case it is the associations that my brain has made with them, they became triggers and I try to avoid them on difficult days.

My friends make fun of me because I always picked hot actors based on their voices. IMO, Alan Rickman is the hands down best because his voice looks like mercury. He could come to my house and just read from the phone book for hours, I would love it. My secret dorkiness is revealed, lol.

Is it just me or does anyone else find the "C" word INCREDIBLY offensive? It actually makes me cringe when I hear or read it, and look sheepishly about me to make sure noone else has heard it..

My sister uses it alot when describing her ex husband.. I shout at her for it, especially when she uses it in front of my nephew.. If she doesn't get on with her ex, then that's fine, but he is still the boys father.

The "C" word is a definite NONO, in my house.. I have thrown people out of the door for using it in my presence.

I don't find 'cunt' (I'm assuming that is the word we're talking about here?) offensive, but I find it being used as an insult offensive, considering how awesome they are. It actually kind of disgusts me when people use it as an insult - it's an awesome body part, not a bad thing. Yeesh.

I find the C word horribly offensive. I hate it! Even reading it in Nolus post made me cringe! I hate the F word although I am VERY guilty of using it. It is almost as if most swear words grate on my eyeballs. It causes me a physical reaction and a flash of light behind the eyes. It is the same as when someone is shouting, I get white flashes of light behind my eyes. It is very strange and I don't know why it happens! LOL!

The C word is the worst, it doesn't bother me much at all. Mainly because where I used to live, everyone uses it. It looses its meaning, everyone is "oi C***"
Here, I've used is as a joke here a couple of times and the attitude is very different, people don't like to hear it.

I adore the word, and even will use it as an insult as I find it to be a rather multi-faceted word: it can be powerful/strong or it can be powerful/mean, and many other things in between. My feelings towards the word are similar to lust I would say.:lol-sign:

I love the word to the point where I named my old dog Mike Hunt. And it wasn't because he was an awesome dog, it's because it was easier to shorten his name to something more socially acceptable than if I had named him Asshole or Shithead, which were the other two names on the table :rofl1:

I'm reserved with my swearing at work, especially with clients though I will let it slip with my employees, as they do with me as well. I don't swear much around my parents, but with friends every other word is a swear.

But last year when I worked in the high school I found it hysterical that the kids all called me "Virgin Miss M" because I would freak out anytime they swore. LOL!!! Little did they know . . .

I too find the C word to be the worst--I don't think I've actually said it out loud in my entire life--I put it right up there with racial slurs in my book of no no's--if my husband ever said the word it would deem a slap to the face--even in jest.

Alright, I've seen lots of references to the "C***" word, but I have no ideas what this word is. My vocabulary of bad words is very limited . So far, I only know the "B" and "F" words, but not "C". Can someone pm me with the whole word and its meaning, just so I'll know it when someone says it??

By the way, since I'm requesting it, I won't be offended when you state the full word & explain its meaning

DITTO!

I dunno.. Say you find it offensive, and yet it keeps getting thrown at you.. NOT cool.
Um, sorry? I was just trying to clarify that that was the word you meant. There are a few "c-words" and, to be honest with you, I find it childish that you can't even type it out. There are a few words make me cringe, but I can at least say them aloud so we all know exactly what word we're talking about when I explain to people why they bother me. (See M&M's post for why I typed it out. Clarity. Not everyone knows exactly what word you are talking about when you you say the "__-word")

Honey, I haven't been a child since FOREVER, even when I was a child.. And now that I am nearly 30 I know full well it's not the case.. ;) You're more than welcome to ask about my childhood if you like, I shall tell you the gory details.

I just don't like it, I don't have to justify that to anyone.. It's fact.. And actually it's a matter of respect for me, and others who find it offensive, i'd just rather it wasn't used in my presence. Simple as that really. Nothing childish about that as far as I can see.. I certainly didn't have a childish paddy and go off on one attacking everyone who does use it.. What you do with your lives is your business, it's only when it directly effects me is when I intervene..

M&M asked for it to be PM'd to her.. Voila, end of issues.. It can be PM'd to people who want clarity without offending others.. That is what PM is for.. ;)

Not sure that it even has a place here on the boards where we have a few younger members.. Why is it that other profanities are *'ed and that isn't?

I shall leave it at that.. I'd just rather it wasn't used publically.. And I think that is an acceptable thing to ask.. :)

I personally feel that it should be edited out. It is a horrible word and the rules of this forum state that the use profanities is prohibited.

Ditto. I don't know why it isn't filtered out on this forum. It's the ugliest word I can think of. I agree with the comment that it's right up there with racial slurs. I'm not a fan of reading it either. <shrugs>

Well, then please allow me to clarify that my use of it had nothing to with disrespect towards you or anyone else who previously stated their aversion to it. PMs actually didn't even occur to me, and I really wasn't sure what word you meant. I usually go straight for the blatant and unmistakeable disrespect right away when I want to let people know I don't like them, as most of you know, and that wasn't it. I apologize for offending you and Puppydog, and anyone else who may have also been offended. It wasn't my intent.

Perhaps you all could contact MT about the word filter?

You didn't offend me Nolu. That would imply I was upset with you. I just cringe at the word. I know it is my own issue and I have very little cause to get upset with the person using it. It is one of my idosyncrasies and no one elses problem.
Now if I were out in public with my neice and nephew and someone was saying it, I would say something, but I am an adult and shouldn't let it upset me. ;)

Apology accepted.. Just don't let it happen again, or I will be forced to follow you home and poo in your slippers. ;)
