I did like Obama's response when asked what he thought about all this. It something to the effect of "we don't run for office so our children can be torn apart for the media. This is a private matter between family and shouldn't be a factor."

if only that were true.

The media should be crucified for this kind of exposure... not any candidate.

You can say what you want about a candidate but leave their family alone. And that doesn't mean that I believe that any candidate should just bow out if their family becomes the product of scrutiny... ANYONES family is vulerable... if that were the case NO ONE would EVER qualify. EVERYONE's family has made their mistakes. We have all made our mistakes as kids... should it be brought against your parents? should your parents have been forced to quit their jobs because some unscrupulous people decided to dig up YOUR dirt?

NO... the media personelle who do this should be held responsible for making this election a mud slinging festival. I wish that these people would be brought up to the stands in the debates and be questioned about WHY they would hurt the innocent families of these candidates just to further their careers.

I like oranges, California.
NO ONE is the perfect MOTHER, FATHER, BROTHER, SISTER, AUNT, UNCLE, COUSIN, GODFATHER, GOD MOTHER, DAUGHTER, SON... etc etc etc etc etc etc.

I honestly hope no one votes for a candidate based on their relationship with their family or the mistakes their family has made.

NO ONE"S family is perfect. not one persons. It's insane to think anyone IS a perfect parent, perfect child... etc etc. It's unhuman if you ask me.

Quite a pathetic voting strategy if you ask me.
oh indeed.
But i know some people DO (whether people believe it or not) vote for a person because of such SILLY reasons.

This goes to show that voting wanting to have Palin in VP just because she is a soccer mom, breastfeeder(what really does that have to do with it), etc etc is STUPID.

Oh forget it.

OH forget what?

I KNOW people vote for such silly reasons but it is pathetic to me. then these people that vote for someone because they are pretty, are a certain party, are married, are black/white, etc etc etc to me... are the first to complain when things don't end up their way even if their chosen candidate gets in office. They are throwing away a vote that was fought so HARD for. Blood was shed for this right to vote. If only more people understood what a priviledge it is to be able to vote and stop wasting it because they have the same color hair or they are the same sex or the same color.

People are lazy and just don't want to do any kind of research into what these candidates have REALLY accomplished in their past. Have they fought against corrupt business's? Have they fought big oil? Have they really fought for ANYTHING they say they believe in? Are they willing to fight for what YOU believe in? Too many people don't care and they throw away the vote because of something superficial

I do think..

I do think that this information about her daughter may play a role in what type of sex education she supports in our public schools--absintence only or combination of things?

When they were talking about it on the Today show this morning they mentioned how teen pregnancy rates are up for the first time in 15 years--and that 3 out of 10 girls/women up to age 20 will get pregnant statistically--that statistic made me physically feel ill. We aren't doing enough for this girls!!

Hey sparks..if you want to defend the woman that's fine. I know this...my family comes first...and if my daughter gets preggers that to me is indicative of my being just a slight bit out of touch with her...and I'd be looking to rectify that, not drag her out into the microscope land with me because of something I want to do.

To each their own.

Oh yeah and the killing baby wolves in their den/trophy hunter thing kinda sealed the deal for me, as to her politics and what's important in her life.

GB agreed...I highly doubt this woman will be putting condoms in schools tho. I live in an abstinence taught state and it's really kind of sad to think that people who actually consider that a good plan might be in charge.

Esp given the stupidity the Rep's have already shown with regard to BC and it's role in "abortion" and how concerned they are protecting the moral sensitivity of a pharmacy worker over the welfare and emotions of women in general.

It is my sincere hope that she doesn't support abstinence-only (which has not a dang thing to do with pro-life, and yet, somehow goes together) and that she had the "talk" with her daughter about such things before she got pregnant. I also sincerely hope that it is, in fact, the daughter's choice to have the baby, keep the baby, and marry the father. I really hope the girl is not being forced to do the "traditional" right thing because her mother wants to be VP. Personally, I think the girl should have the baby, but I'd be very dubious if her mother forced her to do so. As for keeping it and marrying the boy, I hope she really DOES want a family with him.

Well, the media only reports it because people are gobbling it up. If people would stop with their idiotic greed for sensationalism, well maybe then news would be more like news should be.

And I agree- it is time for people to realize that abstinence is not the key to prevent teen pregnancy, but that is a different story.

I agree... Lilavati, I hope the daughter wants to do all of this.

Just Google Palin + wolves.

A LOT of stuff comes up. From the usual sources.

I am not educated about this enough to have an opinion yet. I can understand some predator control can be necessary at some times.

FWIW, I didn't find anything about taking cubs from dens. If you find something, please share.

it's seems...they want more caribou for humans to shoot so they are tracking momma wolves back to their dens and killing the pups. This is something she supports. These wolves were not killing stock, but natural prey. There was simply worry they'd be killing so many...that humans might not have enough to shoot.

I have no problem with hunting...even trophy hunting to some extent...but the fact that you'd shoot an animal hunting it's natural prey, and track a mother back to also kill her cubs, so YOU can instead hunt it is a bit ridiculous to me.

I just did a search and could not find anything about tracking mother wolves back to dens to kill pups. One "article" stated that biologists came across wolves that were shot 2 months prior to their arrival and they found wolf pups and they thought the best thing to do was to kill them, so they did. Other than that, I've not read anything credible regarding the issue. In fact, I don't even think the one "article" I did find was credible.

My question would be why not farm the caribou/moose and slaughter them like cattle to provide meat and such for Alaskans...if the need for their meat is so great that wolves are posing a threat to humans (starvation) or driving the prey species to the brink of extinction (doesn't seem to be the case but I can't think of another reason to kill a natural predator of a wild animal for hunting it's prey??)

To me the stats show that teenagers just don't think of the consequences . Maybe the Scarlet Letter would be a good thing ! A "V" on the forehead or those elastic bracelets with "Virgin "on it .
