I'm not sure how many here have heard of this. I've known about it for a while, but only recently heard of it's recreational use.

I have two teenagers, which in itself is enough work. I found a bottle of this stuff (liquid Salvia) in my daughter's drawer. I looked it up before saying anything, to make sure it's use isn't illegal yet, and as I suspected, it is not.
I didn't say anything right away, as I know the effects of Salvia.
Eventually we talked about this, and yes, the "poor kid" is grounded.

She easily ordered this offline with help from a friend. It was sent right to her friend's home. Nobody knew. It's not illegal. The effects are not generally long term. Perfect drug to use, right?

I just wanted to post this, for parents to understand the use of this drug. Now that more kids are learning about it, it may very well be illegalized in the future. It can cause very odd and dangerous trips. It can be used properly and obviously, improperly.
It can be smoked, and also comes in a liquid form. The liquid form is not swallowed, but rather held in the person's mouth for up to 5 minutes or so.
For many people, the effects are a complete relaxing feeling, almost a numbness. But, as my daughter reluctantly shared with me, the more Salvia liquid that is used, the better the trip. It can be diluted with water to take the burning effect of the liquid off.

Please, take note of this. It's not much different than a kid smoking pot. The immediate effects seem to be almost identical. Long-term effects, though, I'm not sure of.

I know lots and lots of people who have tried salvia (not myself)... It is like pot, a herb, but not illegal.

It causes more than just numbness - it is a hallucinogenic. And like all hallucinogenics, you can have a good trip, or a bad trip.

I know some people who have had REALLY scary trips from it, and people who love it with a passion.

Personally, I think taking any hallucinogenic is like russion roulette, unless you know yourself 100%, and even then, it's all about surrounding and frame of mind etc etc etc, so not something people should just do on a whim..

I have only known people smoke it, I wasn't even aware you could get it in liquid form....?

I knew it came in liquid form, but I wasn't aware it had a burning effect.
She described it as being almost like Nyquil.

It comes in a bottle, with an eyedropper type tube on the cap inside.
One or two of those I think is what it is.

Ugh, never been so hot in my life as when I found that! I'm sure the dogs saw my face turn red! LOL

It's outlawed here. Some kid from a well to do family committed suicide and the parents blamed it on salvia because they found it in his room. They probably never realized their kid was in deep depression and had a bunch of other issues, it was easier to blame what he was using to escape from his personal strife.

I'm not sure I would be comfortable taking anything that sounded so close to "saliva" anyway.
That's what I told my daughter, LOL.

She's a good kid, and I believe her that she only did it once, since the bottle is full and I know she hasn't seen this particular friend in a while.
Either way, still grounded, and it's been destroyed! ;)

kudos for finding it and talking to your daughter about it.. I dont' plan to have children, but for those who do, it sure is a full time job, which so many parents don't take seriously. Thank you for being a good parent, and begin aware!

if she is looking at that..there are quite a few others. Time to take a long look on line at what is being used.

Ever use sage when you are cooking? It comes from another variety of the salvia plant family ;) And those beautiful foxglove plants that attract hummingbirds? Digitalis. Oh, and a good one - I've used it among my roses - artimesia absinthium . . . where absinthe comes from. So . . . how many more garden plants and herbs should be criminalize while we're at it?

A lot of the old timers around here smoked what they call "rabbit tobacco" and got buzzed when they were kids . . .

Must say with two hyper kids and a DH whose role in life is to fill every moment of my spare time with attention-seeking crap I am thinking I'll be popping down the green pharmacy and looking for a bottle of Salvia for myself.

Heheh . . . Skye, I had a BF (now ex) who was a mean drunk. I found Exedrin PM to be a lifesaver. I'd give him three or four and let him pass out . . . definitely a life saver - kept me from killing him ;)

Okay dokey. Exedrin, Salvia and gloucosamine at the next visit to the pharmacia verde then. I was thinking Bromide but I guess Exedrin will work as well. ;)

Hopefully it will be illegal soon and create more prisoners, we have a jail up here that still has an empty bunk.
Lawls!

I've tried Salvia a few times. It has a very, very small affect, and it only lasts about 10 minutes. I've only tried the solid form, not liquid. It's kind of fun in that it makes me feel giggly, but nothing wierd ever happened to me or anyone I know that uses it.

It has had plenty of negative trip effects on many people. What it did to you can be the opposite to another.

I have seen people take it, and try to drive. Would you really want to be on the road with someone who was seeing things floating around?
