I'm a BAD Christian

I am told this every single day. And when I am not told I am a bad christian, I am told I am not even one at all.

I believe in God. I have accepted Jesus. I am not republican or conservative. I am pro gay marriage. I am politically pro choice. I am open minded. I am open to learning new things. I am tolerant. I do believe people are for the most part inherently good. I don't take the bible too literally. I even *gasp* use the brain that God gave me to help myself come to conclusions, instead of relying completely on what other christians tell me the bible means. I think for myself. I don't ram my thoughts, beliefs, and opinions of God down others' throats. And above all else, I believe in respect and compassion towards those that hold a faith different than my own, or no belief at all.

Apparently, this makes me a bad christian, or not one at all.

But in the mean time, I will be proud to be called a bad christian if what I do, say, and think makes me so. I'd rather be a bad one before I'd ever change to a "good" one.

Let he who hath no sin cast the first stone.

;)

I'm also a Christian and I don't agree with your choices. BUT, they are YOUR choices and it is not my right nor my business to judge you based on them. Anyone who does is choosing to ignore other scriptures just as they are accusing you of doing.

Tessa, from what i see of you on this board, you are a great person. I don't know what a 'good christian' is anymore, because there are so many different takes on the bible, on Jesus's teachings, on the church. I know faith is personal. It should be used to feel good about yourself, about the world, and to lead a healthy, compassionate lifestyle. So many Christians are hypocrits. They teach compassion, love, respect, kindness, a life free of judgement, yet they are constantly judging and hurting and disrespecting others. And those people may think they are good Christians for some odd reason, but i think any person who can think for themselves and haven't been sucked into some kind of twisted belief system that Jesus would NOT be proud of, but i assure you, they are not. I don't believe in the bible, i don't believe in Jesus, i don't believe in Satan or Heaven and Hell. Yet i'm more of a Christian than so many people who go to church every Sunday and confess to their sins, because i live my life trying not to hurt other people.

the bumper sticker saying you can't be pro choice and christian has been all over here lately. I want one that says something about you can't judge others and be a christian:rolleyes:

Don't let anyone tell you anything about what YOU believe in or feel. religion is such an individualized thing and people who are stuck on following" rules" have lost the whole message somewhere.

Exactly.

Nobody is in any position to judge your spiritual life, Tessa, except yourself and God. Don't forget that.

You sound pretty good to me! Then again, that's the opinion of a Unitarian Universalist... but honestly you sound like you're doing a good job. Keep up the good work! :D

I hear ya tessa!

When people ask me my religion I tell them that I'm a "bad Catholic". :D Pretty much because I have beliefs very similar to yours. Don't worry, you're not alone! Just be strong in your own beliefs, be a good person, and you'll be better than some of those so called "good christians". ((hugs))

Just remember....

Just because someone disagrees with something you have done does not mean they are judging you. (not saying that this is the case with you Tessa)

We all disagree with someones actions sometimes but it does not mean we are judging that person or that we dislike that person.

disliking an action and judging someone FOR that action are two completely different things

You sound like a GREAT person to me.
I believe in God, but dont go to church nor do I read the Bible. I know there is a God. I am lesbian and I have a girlfriend. So yes, in the eyes on the Bible I'm a bad person. But I am like you Tessa, I have my own choices and opinions, and I will stand by them.

I personaly look at it as tho its a breed standard. You take your interperation of the bible. you take your interperation of what happens in the after life. theres no definition of what you believe. I think some stuff is bs. I love the ideas of some stuff.

Tessa I think you sound like the "perffect christian" lol
I don't know where I sit with religion. I am most definetly not christian, I believe there is a higher power but I don't know what that is.
I believe there is something after death, not sure what yet.

I find most religions are a form of social control, they work, the people that belong to them geneally feel they have to conform with what is the "norm" for that religion.

I try to lead a good life, I don't go out of my way but I have a very open mind, and I help people in need. I am not judgemental, if there are "sins" i would think judging someone you don't know would be right on the top of it somewhere.

I think the important things are to be tolerant, compassionate and understanding of most things.

I think so many people have their own ideas of what christianity is. My thoughts are that each individual has their own relationship with Christ and it's personal. Just because my relationship might be different than my neighbor's down the street doesn't mean either of us are wrong in our beliefs or our way of living.

I guess for me.. I'm comfortable with my beliefs and my relationship with Christ. I may not be as familiar with the bible as many other christians are or go to church as much and engage in church based functions...etc. Some might say I'm not a good Christian because I don't live up to their standards of what a christian should be. But in the end... no ones standards mean a thing because no one else will be standing with me on my judgement day except the one person that truly matters.

So, Tessa... don't let anyone make you feel like you aren't a good christian. If you believe you are, then that's all that matters. You know where your heart is, just continue to follow it and you will shine.

Meh, tell them to take long walk off a short pier. Seriously, from what I know about "real" christians, you are better off not being one. Besides, is it not your own personal relationship with god that counts?
