It doesn't matter to me about the word illegal. I am just as offended that tax dollars from someone who works at taco bell can be used to educate another person who is living at a higher standard to begin with. Just because someone is born here, has money or has connections doesn't entitle them to the earnings of other people. I am probably more offended that American people who live here and understand where our tax pool comes from feel entitled to it.
Buckshot, what I love about you is that you are so consistent, honest and principled in your autarkic way
I will point out, though, just for the sake of accuracy, that if we are speaking of federal taxes, no one who works at Taco Bell, unless they are in the corporate office, will be paying for this kid's education. At that income level, you pay social security and medicare tax, but no income tax . . . indeed, you likely get the earned income tax credit.
On the other discussion, Berkley is an excellent school. The actual school rankings don't have much to do with "Ivy" or not. UVA was considered 4th in the law school rankings when I went there, above everything but Harvard, Yale and Columbia.
Oh, and jammer . . . odds are, she CAN'T get her citizenship papers rolling. She has no grounds for adjustment of status. No matter how smart, talented, or for that matter, innocent she is, unless she falls into a number of narrow categories, she can't become legal. And, oh, yes, she can't even TRY until she turns 18, unless, again, she falls into a narrow category of tragic circumstances. So, whatever you want to blame her for, don't blame her for not trying to become a citizen. She can't.
