I would rather make oatmeal for my dog every morning if I was in a really bad financial pinch. it's just as cheap and more nutritious than the ol'roy.

That much corn should make a decent compost if you can keep the rodents out.

Just skip the step of going though the dog. They'll never know.

Nope. I'd happily take it and tell them my shipping address was that of one of the shelters down south where money is a huge issue. I'm not sure any of the rescues or shelters up here would even feed it.

Definitely not. I'm not in a financial situation where I cannot afford dog food and I'd rather pay to have my dog eat something better.

However, if for some reasons I can't afford to feed a dog at all, it's still food and it's better than dogs starving on the streets

That being said, I'd rather see dogs in loving families bring fed ol'roy or nibbles and bits than dogs running on the streets or in badly managed shelters being fed science diet or even better food. Food is only one part of dog ownership, to me the most important part is that the dog has a home that it is being cared for, played with, loved on. Of course I do believe people should try to feed as good a food as they can afford but I can see worse things than a dog eating ol'roy

Totally.
I think the key part in this is that you COULD afford to feed high quality food.

If I couldn't afford a better food and had to try cheaper foods for a few months or whatever to keep my dogs.. I would.
That said, there are other foods cheaper or the same price/better than ol' roy..and I would fight HARD before even considering it .

but if it came to ONLY feeding ol' roy OR ELSE.. I don't know if I could live with myself watching my dog waste away.

lol! Someone gave me a half empty bag of Ol Roy once because their dog wasn't doing well with it. I ended up feeding it to my ducks. They did great with all that corn.

I would never feed or recommend that food. At one Vet clinic I worked at when a dog pooped a stinky poop. We would all go Olll Royy..Yuk

If I could afford better, no.
If I couldn't afford better, yes. I survived some completely destitute years living on the human equivalent until I could afford better for myself, too.

We don't have that in the UK, but I'm pretty sure we will have a food similar.

If there was nothing else, like I was on the point of rehoming because I couldn't feed them, I'd feed them anything.

Obviously, I wouldn't feed it if I didn't have to.

No way. Not unless something happened and I was in a really bad place financially or something and needed to feed it for a short period of time to keep my dogs fed. But under normal circumstances, I would never feed it nor recommend it or anything of similar quality.

If in the situation for the OP, I'd donate the food to either a shelter or the pet food pantry.

Ew, nevermind, want to change my vote. I didn't read the ingredients before I posted. I was thinking they were bad, but not THAT bad. I don't think I'd feed that even if it was free - I'd just donate it to the shelter or something.

I might mix it with a high quality food, though...that way I'm still utilizing the food, but they aren't eating total crap. Mike was given a bag of pedigree, so we mixed it in with the 4Health and I'm fine with that since the pedigree was free. But compared to Ol' Roy, that Pedigree food is like Acana. Jeez. I'd feed Dog Chow before that.

But I think I'd much rather donate the food to a shelter or food pantry, especially if I could afford better.
