If masturbating is sinful, because you are killing potential life, then isnt using a condom during sex or even using contraceptives also sinful?
Some people actually believe this, yes. I actually have a friend who's parents believe this. But obviously a large majority of christians, including myself, do not follow or live by this. I'd rather all those stupid, irresponsible, horrible people use condoms and prevent the world from havign to support their baby when they just throw it away than not.

Eh, excuse me? I don't appreciate the attack on myself.

Clearly there ARE just stupid people out there. And I'm sure you've had to meet or deal with at least one of them. And I'm sure you'd consider one of me those stupid people you just have to deal with(judging by your attitude with me).

I wasnt attacking you, it was a simple question....and there is no need for eye rolling...
This is what I thought you were saying, maybe you should make better choices of words, besides as a Christian you are not supposed to judge people....

Debi, I'm sure they do! And since it's Heaven, you don't have to worry about how Cap'n and jam will get along in your stomach.

So much for an intelligent conversation. Somehow we got on to how Christians can believe in this. it seems some people find it quite silly. Interesting because I don't recall anyone saying YOUR beliefs were silly or asking you silly questions like what if someone killed his mother slept with a man and used a condom and then asked for forgiveness and then did it all again, what would happen to him? WE DON'T know.

WE aren't God. We are only trying to live by God's teachings the best way we know how. We don't have a manual for all the technicalities.

People are getting upset saying, "why can't you just accept my beliefs for what they are" and then turn around and make silly jokes and ask questions JUST so you can say Christians are wrong to believe what they do.

I don't get it.

Can't we get back to the good discussion 5 pages back.

I don't ask questions to make people look silly or anything.

But I will admit, sometimes when people leave themselves open for certain interpretations, I will call them on it even though the answer is obvious, and usually it was quite clear that they didn't mean it "that" way. ;)

To me, there just seem to be so many loopholes in Christianity.

Like this whole masterbation issue. If you REALLY REALLY wanted to go by the book, you should believe that masterbation is... well you know, a sin.

But, it seems as though most Christians here don't believe that. So, (no offense to anyone) some people DO pick and choose what they want to believe and what they don't think is "reasonable" in today's day and age. If that makes any sense.

So if people who call themselves Christians, can pick and choose, why can't people who don't believe fully in the Christian faith, pick and choose what to believe and still call themselves Christians?

If that makes any sense whatsoever.

I'm thinking everything bagels with cream cheese and lime marmalade and Negra Modelo . . . goes with the lime marmalade ;)

I never said that anyone was anything but what they claim to be.

I didn't ask silly questions and make jokes about what they believe. I'm sorry I just think that is disrespectful. They want us to see their side but then we are snided and jeered because they think what we believe is silly.

Also, while you think we may pick and choose what we want to abide by, that's not quite how it works.

I believe everything I do and everything anyone else does is between them and God. No one else. I'm sure everyone thinks one thing is wrong and another thing is OK when others think it's wrong. Why is it only nonesense when it comes to our beliefs. What you think is right and wrong is your belief.

Homosexuality is wrong according God's teachings, I agree, that is my opinion. Sex before marriage is wrong according to the bible, I did not agree and did not follow that teaching. NOW, I regret it. I regret my husband not being my first. I wish I could have shared that with him but I didn't. I made a mistake, I will make my restitution with God for it.

Again I'm not sure why people think that Christians are perfect. We aren't and I don't remember ever claiming to be. I make mistakes and I have my opinions, my choices may not always be right but that is between God and I.

My one question is why would someone claim to be Christian if they didn't know if they really believed? I didn't call myself a Christian when I was unsure of what I believed.

Me, personally, I don't mock Christian beliefs, some of the teachings though I just find to be... hard to completely understand.

To answer your question on why people mock Christian beliefs, or whatever you want to call it, (mocking, jeering) is because if you don't believe in God, or Christianity, there really is no "label", for those people.

If someone takes a piece of Christianity, and mixes in their own ideas, it's hard to pick at their "belief" because it's not documented like Christianity is. Does that make sense? Christianity, or the basic idea, is broadly known. And for those that choose to mock it, it's easy to take certain pieces of the Bible and turn it around, and make it sound "silly", or debate it's meaning etc.

Someone's own personal beliefs aren't broadly understood/known about so it's much harder to "pick fun".

I think some people call themselves "Christian", becasue they believe in God, but they may not believe all of the "technicalities" revolving around the concept of being "Christian".

Ex) They believe in God. But they do not believe that adultry is a sin. (just an example)

I used to think that Christians were supposed to be perfect, but as I got older I realized that that's not the point of being Christian, being perfect. THe point is that when you make mistakes, to ask for forgiveness and try your best not to make mistakes...
