What do you personally believe in?...

True. On that same note, I hope I've shown you some things you didn't know as well. :)

We can't 'prove' the Big Bang happened or how it happened OR prove there is a God that created everything. The catch to all of this "proving" is that you have to BELIEVE regardless of stone cold proof.
It's how the world works. ;)

I like to hear more personal "proofs". People's "take" on things rather than scripture. Scripture to me is just anyone's words. Not enough for me. - per Roxy

Ummm, not to point out the obvious but isn't scripture a whole lot of different peoples "take" on what happened? Not counting the words of God and Jesus...just the people's recount of events. If you want personal takes on things but don't want anyone's words how are you going to get a satisfactory answer about anything? :)

Sorry to join this late but I thought I would add my 2 cents to the OP.

1. I believe in God

2. I believe that mankind is by nature evil or selfish and needs to be socialized to be other wise.

3. I believe the biggest lie in modern American history is the idea that the Republican party is some how more moral and Christian than the Democratic party. (Thanks Karl Rove)

4. I think welfare has destroyed the African American family by marginalizing the Male's role in the family. I believe in social programs but the way money was/is unconditionally handed out and increased for single mothers helped destroy the African American family.

5. I believe family is the most important thing in life.

6. I believe animals have souls and will rejoin us in our afterlife (by the way...I believe in an afterlife also)

7. I believe Plato's idea of Philosopher Kings would be the best form of government....if the right Philosophers could be found.

8. I think mankind has a price to pay in the afterlife for its cruelty to other animals.

9. I think the three biggest threats to the USA (my country) are..in order
first...Corporate greed and corruption Second... Religious fanatism at home and abroad Third...Illegal immirgration (see Roman Empire)

10. Heaven is a place for people who are good and do good deeds. People like Jeffery Dalmer will never get to heaven regardless of what they do. I was a prison guard when he was caught and the first thing he did was find "Jesus".

I have more crazy ideas but those are the ones I mention for now ;)

We're really not 100% sure about how the world works yet . . . Ever do any reading on String Theory?

The references from the Catholic Bible are always interesting. It's not something that is as available as the Protestant Bible around here, and it certainly wasn't used as a reference at that fundamentalist Baptist school I did time in for a couple of years ;) According to that bunch, Catholics were as bad - maybe worse than - Satanists  Talk about being clueless . . . Needless to say, they tried to keep me from asking too many questions. They never seemed to have any answers to the ones I'd ask

Renee - When it comes to another religion (especially one that all other religions originated from) they tend to not want to answer any questions. That's one of the reasons I converted from Baptist to Catholic. I didn't like how my church didn't explain anything, make anything interesting, or really "believe" in what the preached. The Catholic church is more than willing to give you the whole history, in detail if need be, up to and including the first Pope (Peter) as well as trying it's best to help you to understand the Bible. I don't mean understand it from the Catholic perspective either, just...understanding, ya know? Maybe I'm not explaining very well. I know what I mean though.
Within the Catholic church I have always found a friend when I was in need, an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, a person to explain, a place of solitude and a greater understanding of God and the faith I have chosen. Basically, no matter what anyone says to me - I shall not be shaken. I stand on my rock, my foundation, and I'm given the strength to believe in what science can't explain. :) For that I am, and always shall be, eternally grateful.

To people that are saying "the only way you can get me out of my belief is if you somehow disprove to me that God doesn't exist" - that's ridiculous rationale.

And anybody can believe anything unsubstantiated with that sort of logic - I believe in a magical pink unicorn sent by friendly aliens 28 galaxies out that created our earth. You see?

and who says you can't believe that a magical pink unicorn sent by a frienly alien 28 galaxies out that created our earth. YOU are free to believe whatever you want. That's the beauty of it.

It isn't ridiculous rationale. I don't need scientific or absolute proof to believe and have faith. Like some DO need proof to have faith and believe. I do not.

anybody CAN believe anything unsubstantiated if they wish. If you truly believe it to be true, who is to say you are wrong.

Yeah, you're right. You're free to believe whatever you want; no matter how ridiculous it sounds to someone else.

That fact that you don't need proof makes yoru faith so much greater. And I do believe there are ways to prove it but it won't seem like proof to someone who doesn't believe. I believe in the bible so I believe that is our proof. All the miracles and visions that happened were God proving to us that He was real, I don't understand why He would have to keep proving Himself to us, we are the ones at a loss if we don't believe. Just because we weren't there doesn't mean it didn't happen and can't be proof. I wasn't at the Civil War either but it happened.
