We don't need gun control

we had a gun control umm discussion last night.
My hubby said "Thats why we need to get rid of the guns , this tradgy would not have happened"
Me~ "see this fork , it is made of metal , just like a glock is. see it laying there on the table?"
He looks "yeah"
me"watch it " ~I pick up fork and stab him in the arm , and say "Lets ban forks now."

Well, to be entirely fair, if Loughner had attacked Giffords with a fork, its very likely that no one would be dead. It is ALOT easier to kill someone with a gun than a fork, or even a knife.
Not saying that to support gun control, but lets be fair here . . . although anything can be used as a weapon, a gun is a much better and more effective weapon than many other choices . . . whether you are attacking someone or defending yourself.
As a quick example, I have a couple of quite deadly bladed weapons in my house. However, if I was really afraid of being attacked in my home (like I lived in a more dangerous area) I'd buy a gun.

i agree with the gun would do more damage , but they will not jump up and magically shoot , nor will a fork jump up and magically stab someone. the point i got across to him is they are objects USED to kill , there is no way they could do it by themselves. like say a human could with there hands.
i do understand the whole purpose they are intended for , guns=killing , forks=eating , but i just hate the "guns kill people", um no people USE guns to kill. it is the person doing the killing. get it right! lol

To play devil's advocate:
Considering that there will always be vicious, crazy people in the world who will kill other people for no reason whatsoever . . . wouldn't it be better if they were armed with forks than guns?
Sure, guns don't kill people, people kill people . . . but people with guns are a lot more effective at killing people.

I don't think 9 people would have died in a grocery store due to a fork. Or that ~20 students at Virginia Tech would have been murdered with something from the dining hall. One, maybe. But at that point, the weapon would have been wrestled away.
Guns make mass killings of innocent targets possible. Unless someone is a sharp shooter with a fistful of ninja stars, I know of no other instrument such horrific tragedies are possible with.
