Our big project this spring has been to put in a patio, and I wanted to share our progress!

A few of the photos were already shared in Jessie's patio thread: http://www.chazhound.com/forums/t133472/

I was planning on sharing the whole process once it was completely done, anyways, but I thought this might help if anybody else was looking to put in a patio! (Ours isn't QUITE done yet, but it is very very very close.)

April 8th
Excavation begins!
(The giant trench through the center is for the drainage coming off the house.)

April 10th - 11:30am
The trench is filled in and the retaining wall is (mostly) finished.
(The yellow piece of machinery you see is the plate compactor we rented for the paver base.)

April 10th - 2:30pm
Adding the paver base.

April 10th - 3:40pm
Still adding the paver base. Lots and lots of paver base!

April 10th - 5:15pm
First layer of paver base is complete, compacted and ready.
(The first order of paver base wasn't enough for the project. Also, please ignore the wonky wall caps at the front corner. They were just there as a placeholder.)

April 14th
Second layer of paver base is complete, compacted and ready.
(Plus dog getting in the way of the photo.)

April 17th - 1:00pm
The leveling and laying of brick pavers begins.

April 17th - 4:45pm
More leveling sand and pavers down.

April 17th - 6:30pm
Getting close! All the whole pavers are down. Just need to re-level pavers in a few places after things settle, and rent a wet saw to cut the remaining pieces to fit.

(Yes, my brother and brother-in-law are funny.)

April 17th - 6:45pm
Covered everything up with plastic just so nothing washed away with the rain and storms the next couple days. *Shakes fist at the rain and storms*

April 21st
Wet saw cutting and fitting of all the pavers is done!

*DONE* (for now... LOL!)

The last steps are to wait for everything to dry off enough to fill the spaces between pavers with polymer finishing sand, which will lock it all into place. Plus, the wall caps need to be secured, as well.

All in all, it's looking really awesome and SO CLOSE to being a complete patio! Of course, I'll share more photos once it is officially done.

Hope you enjoyed looking!

Thank you all for the comments! Still waiting on a few dry days to get this completed, but we're not holding our breath. LOL!

Indeed we should!

That'll last forever. Good job on doing it right. Very nice.
Just wanted you to know my husband saw this comment and is very pleased to have confirmation that he's done this correctly. :) He's very proud of it!

It's DONE!

Well... the work is done. We still can't walk on it for a little while as the polymer sand finishes curing. :)

Yesterday (May 4th). Poured the polymer sand to fill in all the cracks between the bricks, cleared away the excess, and then misted it all to set in place.
(These photos are just of the pouring sand part.)

Today (May 5th)... Finished product! Well, almost, but this is what it's ultimately going to look like! :D

Now we just need a grill to put on it. ;)

It turned out really, really awesome! How many hours would you say you put into it? *ponders* I wonder if it's something that we'd be able to do as well... I'm really impressed by how great it looks!

I'll send Jon this way to answer that question. While it took nearly a month start to finish for us... a LOT of that time was just waiting around on the weather. He'll have a better estimate in terms of how much time was actually spent working on the patio. :)
