This was just funny (albeit annoying!) so I thought I'd share.

Was walking Bonnie today in the neighborhood next to mine and passed a guy who said "Hey, what a pretty dog. What's she mixed with?" I said she's not mixed with anything, she's a Doberman, and he laughed and said, "Whoever told you that lied! You know Dobermans have pointy ears. That dog's some kind of Rottweiler mix." I said no she's a Doberman, they have to have a surgery to get their ears to stand, and again he just said "Whoever told you that lied." I just thanked him for the "information" and walked off, thinking WOW! All this time I thought I had a Doberman, and I've been wrong! :rofl1:

Does this type of thing happen to anyone else?

Not that. But I got the "Those are the dogs whose brains grow bigger than their skulls and they go crazy." I got that one a lot. It's incredible that you ran into someone who was that dumb to argue with you...a person who's owning the breed and must be familiar with it. Oh...when will it ever end? These kinds of people should not breed. LOL.

Oh geeze, wow hahaha! Yeah some woman told me that Violet hates her life and will never be happy as an inside dog because "that kind of dog" is meant to live outside. I honestly couldnt think of a reply in the moment so I just laughed lol. She also told me on another occasion (this lady works at the groomer's I go to) that people who buy huskies don't know what they're getting into when they get a husky. They try to keep them inside and when they realize how much they shed, they put them outside "where they belong". What the....? I told her she was our 3rd husky and was an inside dog and she genuinely seemed shocked.

This wasn't that bad, but I once told someone that I thought Kailey had some lab in her just judging from her personality and they went "oh, is she really mellow?"
I nearly burst out laughing.

It happens with Doom all the time. People tell me he MUST be a rare black Irish Setter and I explain to them that no, he's a mutt... a rather incredible mutt, but a mutt nonetheless. I love it when they argue and I can say that not only did I know his parents, but I groomed dogs for years and am better than half way to graduating veterinary assistance school with honors, so they can stuff it. We had one lady in our old apartment complex in Colorado that would hound me EVERY time we saw her because she wanted to buy him... until she found out he'd been neutered... :D :D :D

One of my sisters friends was here close to feeding time for the dogs (they were all locked up) and Aura who is ruled by her stomach started to throw a fit in her crate. I just turned to the person and told her that she would shut up soon enough because she should know by now that she won't get any food unless she's quiet. So apparently I starve and abuse my dogs and the poor puppy is obviously horribly treated because she wouldn't be making those sounds if she wasn't scared. Ah well doesn't bother me. I know I know my dog better than her and funny enough I was right. Aura remembered her manners as soon as she heard me start to feed the other dogs.

I have been informed, by knowledgeable people . . . some who even own ROCKWILDERS, that Kharma is a nice looking hound, even if her back end is unstable because it's too high. :rofl1:

I don't know where to begin really,I get so much nonsense from people, what surprises me most is when it comes from other dog owners:
"Ohhh look she's a chihuahua right?"
"She is chihuahua and jack russel"
"OHHHH A JACKCHI...yes,thats what that breed is called"
"Well....it's not a breed"
"Yes,yes it is,my friend has two,and I have 5chihuahua's,yours is more chihuahua though I can tell, yku will have to be extra carefull you know?"...Goes to pick Coco up
"Please dont pick her up"
"Oh but they LOVE being picked up"

"Is that dog part hyena?" I get this one about Gambit at least 2x a week.

Then there's this exchange.
"Oh, he's so pretty, can I pet him?"
"No, I'm sorry. He's very shy and doesn't like strangers."
"Oh....he's been abused hasn't he? Poor baby, did someone abuse you?"
"No. His problem is neglect and lack of socializing as a puppy."
*blank stare*
Apparently neglect isn't that big of a deal. Having talked to people who both foster dogs and children, I'm coming to the conclusion that it's far, far, worse then abuse.

People like to tell me that I'm cruel for not letting my friendly dog visit with people, when she's working and has a giant sign draped over her back that says "do not touch me, do not distract me, I am working". Sure, call her over and pet her anyway. She's friendly, after all. Clearly I'm asking too much of her when I insist that she doesn't solicit attention from strangers.

People like to tell me that it's okay if their large, overbearing dog gets in my dog's face, because "he needs to learn a lesson". Sure, okay for you to let your dog get badly bitten. Okay for you to let your dog upset my dog, who is uncomfortable with strange dogs invading her space. Seriously, if you do this, **** you. I will teach your face a lesson with my fist.

There are also people who let their dog approach to 'visit' my dog while she is working, with an ID vest on, and I'm saying "hey this is a working dog, please call your dog back". My dog ignores their dog as long as she can until I let her jump on my back for safety, or until she gets pushed over her threshold and bites the other dog. Then I get comments that aggressive dogs shouldn't be service dogs, or I get advice on how to train my dog to not do that. Yeah, because flipping her on her back as soon as another dog approaches is going to make her like dogs more. Asshats.

I had one lady get offended the other day because I got snippy with her. First she wanted to pet Mia and I told her no. Mia just really doesn't enjoy being petted by strangers. Usually I have both dogs with me so I can direct them to Summer. Occasionally Mia will go up to people on her own. But a lot of people seem to take this as a challenge 'I will make that dog like me.'

So then the girl decided to try to get Mia to sit and lie down.

'Sit! Sit! Sit!'

'She's not going to listen to you. She only listens to me.'

That made her pretty mad. Why? I have no idea. I would never ever walk up to a random person's dog and say commands and expect their dog to obey me.

Ugh, people do this all the time at my work when we get foster cat's in who are uncomfortable with dogs. Our last foster did NOT like dogs in her space and she drew blood on a few who wouldn't leave her alone. She had a sign on her cage that said "I will claw dogs" and SOOO many people thought that it was cool to let their dogs walk up to the cage. A lot of them were "well then he'll learn" or "he'll defend himself"

Uhhh, you're idiots. You DO realize that the cat is in a CAGE and that your dogs CAN'T get in the cage, riiiight" *rolleyes* nor did they take the time to think that it made the cat uncomfortable to have the dogs right in her face. There is a REASON she is going after them.

Stupid people.

Ohhhh you have a Parson!!! Me: "Actually she's a JRT" them: "But, she has long legs, she must be a Parson because Jacks are smooth with short legs!" Me: Actually, a breed standard JRT is proportionate" Them: "Well somebody lied to you!"

Sometimes I will point out that Diamond won her class at the JRT nationals, and if I really feel like confusing them I will point out that her grandsire is a registered JRT whose breeder was involved in pursuing KC status, and he went on to also become a KC registered PRT.... :rofl1:

Annoyinggggggggg!
People act all offended when their strange large dog approaches me in the park,by the time they get to me I have picked up Coco..
"Oh don't worry,she's friendly"
...Yes but your dog came out of nowhere..and...how would i know it was "friendly"....

'Sit! Sit! Sit!'
'She's not going to listen to you. She only listens to me.'

I solve this by avoiding people and glaring if they approach. ;)
This.. but sometimes they are too dense to get it. When I used to have a harlequin dane, people used to tell me he was a dalmatian all the time. Silly me, I didn't know dalmatians were 135lbs!

I get chihuahua mix with Zuma all the time, she can't possibly be a border collie mix.

At a tiny "one time" pet event, I had some lady come over to us and exclaim that Enda was an "Irish setter German shepherd mix", I told her no, She's a Beauceron. Of coarse she then gives the old game of "I've never heard of it" (as in, I've never heard of it, so it doesn't exist!). The two working at the local rescue booth were both fascinated and in love with Enda, and I think by the end of our visit, very entertained with my trying to explain the breed to this women. I probably other wise would have just walked away, if I hadn't already been engaged in conversation with the rescue volunteers, they had brought a really cute puppy Enda was playing with.

Oh, and another to come of that same day, earlier, another women had approached us as End and I were looking at some caged birds, and almost whispering in my ear leaning over "I can take those off for you", I shot her a puzzled look and she said no, "Oh it's really simple, we just snip them off" I cut her off and then tried to explain to her that Enda's dew claws are part of the breed standard and she is shown. It took a lot of back and forth though to finally get all that out as she kept budging back in with things like "they get caught" "they look very loose, floppy" "I can take them off really quick". I finally got her to listen by mentioning Great Pyrs, then she changed her tone completely and stopped yammering on. Yeah, just like Pyrs, they're supposed to be there! So from that point on, they aren't to closely related breeds, but I just mention Pyrs if someone tries to pull that again, saves me a lot of breath. She then went on to want to know more about the breed, and looked to be absorbing everything like a sponge. One event, two VERY different people.
