Jefferson was Jefferson - his views are no longer espoused by either party.

I still dont think the situations are that different - the cultures are...but the situations are not...you have two tyrannical governments both terrorizing their people - and in both cases Americans stepped in - my grandmother was by no means Democratic before the Facist Gov't - her family was Italian Nobility (the country had been a pure monarchy) and they lost quite a bit of flout when Democracy was established. But I suppose we'll just have to each see things differently.

Perhaps the question isnt just would you rather remain with the Tyrant...but also what tribe would you like to belong too.

And the beaty of Democracy - if they want to Vote to change it to another kind of government they like better they can :) The right candidate espousing his view of government just has to pop up and they can vote for him :)

That's a wonderful theory and I wish it were true in reality.

The reality is we (the U.S.) has a history of supporting regimes and setting up governments in other places to suit our whims. We were, after all, largely responsible for Saddam Hussein's power.

Oh, and Noriega. There's another good one. We make 'em, we break 'em when they get to be too embarrassing.

Oh, we've got a long history . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covert_U.S._regime_change_actions

You're right - we have a long history of making mistakes. To say we didnt would be folly.

We've also done some good as well...Germany, France, Italy to name three. Kuwait is another. And we dont always get along beautfully with the above (France comes to mind) and sometimes I would consider that embarrasing (I do love the Italians...I really do...but they're such an odd lot...and so fond of keeping their government in Chaos - which they do with startling efficiency)...but I dont think we've blown any of them up yet :)

Honestly, Puck, I see the world very differently than you seem to, but I respect you for sticking to your ideals. Even if I didn't like you, I don't say things for the sake of disagreeing with people. I guess it's not just this thread, there have been others where being "liberal" has been thrown around and equated to fascism.
LIke I said earlier... The ONLY reason I will vote for McCain is because of his defence of the 2nd Amendment. Barack Obama said it all when he said that people like me, "cling to our Bibles and our guns"...

Mr, Obama is the guy who said words DO matter. Those words tell me that he is just another MODERN liberal. He assumes that people like me are just uneducated, Bible thumping morons. He is WRONG. He claims to be a uniter, but he will only divide us further, unles of course, you agree with his "Big City" ideals about like.

I will not spare you, or anyone else, my "open-minded drek." I appreciate open-mindedness to different walks of life and ideas. Am I perfect in that respect? Not at all.
Well, to me "open minded" tells me a person stands on sand. My beliefs are firm and do not float with the current breeze. I am NOT a hateful person, simply because my beliefs are firm and little can change them.

Anyway, I posted to the topic. I would like Obama to be president, and I can't wait for Shrub to be gone. Adios.
Very good. I am voting for McCain because I KNOW that the 2nd Amendment is about WAY, WAY more than "hunting and target shooting", like Obama's website (and voting record) says. He has NO CLUE about people like me and worse, I doubt he would care to.

But, FWIW (gotta find that common ground) I also cannot wait for Bush to be gone. Ya gotta start somewhere.... LOL

Of course! We already know that. Puck already posted about it ;)

You are still here? I would have thought you would be too embarrassed to show yourself after you dropped down low enough to insult our daughter. LOL

Anyway, you speak as if I control my wife. If you really think that, you REALLY don't know her. Our relationship is what a marriage SHOULD be. We are two, of one flesh. I don't rule her nor she I. We are simply cut from the same stone.

Jealous? LOL

Oh, gotta add this... ;)

We've all heard the creepy "one flesh" shpeal. I wasn't however, aware of the fact that a marriage "SHOULD" be one person blindly nipping at the heels of your one-lined right-wing madness.

You speak of things as the way things "should" be. Your OPINIONS are always absolute certainties. Marriages SHOULD be this way, the government SHOULD be this way, your religion SHOULD be this way, Obama is a fascist because you said so. Your outlook on life is beyond skewed, and you're dragging your obedient wife along for the ride (after all, the bible says so right?).

Now, why would I be jealous of a relationship like that? ;)

LOL you are always such a ray of sunshine in an otherwise dreary day.

Very entertaining you are :D

Judge me all you want... those who have met me can attest to my beliefs and my marriage.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Obedient.... LMFAO Oh man... that's rich. I can be accused of being many things.... most of them are true... but obedient? lol my family would get a good kick out of that.

*wipes tear*

Obedient lol

Back on topic.... I lean more towards McCain because while he is a little more lax on the immigration topic than I might really like... after going through (and STILL going through) the immigration process... something's gotta give man. It is such an endless cycle of hoops to jump through and checks to write. It's insanity. I don't want to just open up the borders to any Joe could just walk in but there has to be a better way. I just want to be with my husband and my daughter without having to fear that something is going to happen and I will have to be sent back to Canada because I didn't dot an I or cross a T. It's been almost FOUR years since we started this process. FOUR. Thousands of dollars later and quite a few gray hairs later... I'm frankly sick of it. I dont' have a criminal record, I don't want to sponge off the government, I am not a terrorist. I just want to be with my family.... I just want to live, love and laugh and not have that dark cloud hanging above my head all the time that at any moment it could all be taken away.

(maybe that wasnt so very on topic...oh well...I tried...lemme try again)

Yah . . . McCain's married . . . :D

.
Oh man.... that stinks

He could have been my "on the side sugar daddy with one foot near the grave"

I do worry about his age and his health at this age. I am interested to find out who his running mate will be :D

Booo - not him! Too old for lil old me - maybe someone like Gerard Butler's Character from PS I Love You....only...you know...not dead. (the accent is a must!)

Good to know! I usually feed him Charcoal biscuits but I ran out and Petco is hours away :(

And it is so very bad...not as bad as Jay used to be - he'd burn the hair out of my nows...but wow.
