I'm hoping, Renee.
I'm going to leave him alone for about 48 hours to let his body heal and adjust to its new state, and then I'll start doing some therapy exercises with him.
Hubby is pretty upset seeing him like this. He's telling me that if he doesn't get any better in a few weeks, he'd rather put him down than see him live like that the rest of his life. Honestly, I'm on the fence, because it's so hard to know what they're really like and really want to do if it weren't for the physical limitations. But I'm not even considering euthanasia at this point. Should he have another stroke, which could happen, or just go downhill physically or mentally, then I'll consider it in about 3-4 weeks. But in the meantime, it's going to be lots of luvin' and therapy.

Well, poor baby can't eat or drink (to which I wasn't exactly surprised).
He tried taking a kibble of dog food from my hand, but he couldn't chew it, and it just got stuck in the side of his mouth (I don't need him to choke!). So I was prepared with 2 jars of beef baby food and a syringe full of water, which he happily slurped down.
Now I'm praying he regains the ability to eat and drink soon, or else we'll encounter new issues.

Last year (I think) Ginger had a bout of vestibular issues with no apparent cause. One ear was a tiny bit waxy, but that's it. They assumed she perhaps had a brain tumor, as it didn't fit the normal vestibular issues. But, she recovered fine with no lasting effects. It was alarming, though, to leave a normal dog in the morning and come home to a dog who could barely stand, was all tilted to the side and whose eyes flicked constantly.
Grab, did she have any paralysis of the face? I was hoping for vestibular syndrome, but I've never heard of it causing facial paralysis.
If I can, I'll get some pics and video of him later. It seems I've now caught the "bug" Cooper had Sunday and Carson had last night and today. Bring on the vomit! ugh.....

We're thinking of you guys. Moxiecollies' old man sheltie mix, Jake, lived to be 18. He had three major strokes. Each time he had partial paralysis, vision issues, couldn't get up and walk or get up to to go the bathroom.
Each time they thought it was over but let him have a few days to make sure. He ate beef baby food and jerky, and around the third day or so every time got better. He was never quite the same dog after that, but he was really happy and mobile.
