When you first join a chihuahua forum and post pictures people always ask "how much does your chihuahua weigh?" LOL it's ridiculous.

Yepp, big dog people do the "My dogs larger than yours".

And small dog people do the "My dogs smaller than yours".
That is so ridiculous ... on both counts!!
I mean, what does it matter what the dog weighs whatever it's breed?!?
Isn't it supposed to be a matter of the individual dog being in a healthy weight range for it's size?

around her there more of a status symbol for rich kids looking for "cute acessories"
Ummm-hmmm .... it's like that around these parts with Chis too ... as well as the so-called "teacup" Yorkshire Terriers. Purchased for spoiled kids as "fashion statements".

To me, the dog's breed/gender/and weight are the first things I ask people. A seven pound chihuahua is going to look and act a whole lot differently than a 2 pound chihuahua, there's a big difference. I don't judge ("that chi's better cause he's the right size"), but I like to have a mental picture of what the dog looks like.

With mixed breeds, though, the weight is more important to me. I saw a listing on petfinder yesterday, a "collie/GSD mix," young adult dog who weighed 11 pounds. That's all very contradictory, although the picture (where you can't see size) DID look like a collie/GSD mix. So yeah, to me weight is an important thing to know if you're trying to picture the dog.

I post Tinker's size all the time because it's her size that makes her so unhealthy...and she was bred this size ON PURPOSE.:yikes:

Oh, and she's 1.5 lbs. (approx) and has MANY health problems directly related to her size. Her jaw, both top and bottom were broken by her own teeth. Tinker now has 4 teeth and a hanging jaw, 2 teeth on each side, very back, top and bottom.

Her little body is all out of whack, knees, hips, elbows....
Don't get me wrong, she's a little pistol but when we closed her breeder down, there were many just like her...all registered as this woman was well known in the show community.

Tinker is 10 years old now and her inside parts seem to be much healthier (so far) than her teeny little carcas.
Tia, my normal sized Chi, is now just about 18 years old and while she is in heart failure, she's been so much healthier than Tinker largely due to her size.

And....*drum roll*, neither are 'yappy', both have been house trained since very young pups AND neither speaks spanish....though that WOULD be cool.:D

We've never gotten the 'my dog's smaller than yours' yet. I'm surprised, really. Maybe If I walk Nard some more someone will ask. (He's 3.5 lbs, but still growing right now)

I got that with Max all the time too. It drives me crazy. Not that I have anything against Chi's, but a Papillion really doens't look anything like a LH Chi. I keep saying that I am putting a tshirt on Max that says " I am NOT a long haired chiuahua!". My hubby thinks it is hilarious!

I have gotten that a few times from people that are familiar with Paps. Max is small for the breed. He might weight 7 pounds-maybe.

And to comment on another of your posts- I don't think Max is ever going to have a true Pap coat either. I call him my little hairless Pap. The only place he has a lot of hair is on his butt :)

do medium dog people say "my dogs more medium than yours" I wonder??
At least around here, it's more of a "my dog is within the standard" thing with tollers (medium breed). They are seemingly obsessed with the standard and feel the need to ask for your toller's stats if you own one too. Pit's over the standard, and when the toller people ask how big he is, I usually get a "Oh, that's too bad." :p Oh well.

People think they are so original LOL. Whenever people hear Regis' name 99% of the time I get asked "Where's Kelly?" or if I have another dog near by "Is that Kelly?" (sorry if someone here has ever said that I dont recall lol). LOL.. I always smile and nod.
Hahahha, I get "Oh, it's Auggie Doggie? Where's Doggy Daddy?" all the time... one of these days, I swear I'm going to flip out and be like "OH MY GOD HAHAHAHA AUGGIE DOGGIE AND DOGGY DADDY. LIKE THE CARTOON. HOLY CRAP I NEVER MADE THAT CONNECTION BEFORE. NOBODY HAS EVER SAID THAT TO ME BEFORE, EVER. YOU ARE SO FUNNY. SO CLEVER. HOLY CRAP. YOU SHOULD BE A COMEDIAN. HAHAHAHAHAHA!"
It'll be epic.

One day I was at a fun run and Auggie's breeder was standing next to me, and had Auggie's dad (and brother) with her. So when the guy snickers as I tell him I'm signing up with Auggie, and asks me where "Doggy Daddy" is - we both go "Oh, right here... *points at papa*"
He gave us this really blank stare in response.
It was pretty freaking hilarious.

I think Chi owners & 'pit bull' owners have it hard.

It sucks walking into Petsmart & having some a-hole ask you how many kids your dog has killed.

Man im screwed then. Im burning that candle at both ends...lol

I actually have never heard anyone rudely comment my Chihuahua, or Chihuahua mixes...Maybe its a California thing? They are so common here (Especially in my city..number one breed (Mixes mainly) at our shelter.
I have to agree with this. I've had people say my Chi is "friendlier" than other chis and "not yappy..wow" but no one has ever made a rude comment that i can think of.

I'd say Pits and Chis are the most common dogs here. In fact i haven't gotten a rude pit comment yet either.

Its ok Laur... My Pom is aparently a pekinese this month.

I've mistaken a papillion for a chi before and I'm not an idiot...

But then this pap was shaved to look like a longhaired chi, so uh. Yeah.

I haven't really gotten any rude comments. Most people smile and say they're cute. I took them in with me to Les Schwab while I waited for my breaks to be done. Jose` cleaned up the spilled popcorn on the floor around my chair. A few people waiting wanted to visit with them so I let go of their leashes and they said, "hello" and wagged their tails. Then I laid my coat on the chair next to me and they lay down and went to sleep most of the time. If someone new came in, they raised their heads to look and went back to sleep. One guy said, jokingly...."Oh, ankle biting, yappy, hyper Chihuahuas." I think he said that because they were so friendly, definitely not hyper. They looked like they were on valium. LOL.

I really do dislike idiotic breed stereotypes. Ankle biting, yappy dogs are usually that way because the owners didn't socialize them enough.

I own both breeds. Chi and pit. The comment I get most when walking them both at the same time is... "I bet that little chihuahua rules the house" and I say... "Oh yes!! You've got that right". LOL.

What I hate is that people ask if Reggin is nice and if its ok to pet him without getting their hand bit off. And then they turn around and reach for Pebbles in a very fast manner to pet her without asking if its ok. And there IS a chance that she might snap. She has been VERY weary of people since she was born. She does have an unstable temperament which is the reason why I will NEVER accept another puppy from a BYB... EVER. She was a gift.
