Not that I have a problem with Chihuahuas but sheesh ...

I have to deal with half the people thinking my dog is a chi. I have heard every nasty chihuahua stereotype, every snickering, every mention of 'useless chihuahua'. And for some reason teen-20's type guys feel the need to do a Taco Bell impression to my dog in a Mexican accent. (Which is freaking hilarious because well... papillons are from France....). Also, people like to bark at her and when she doesn't bark back mutter something about 'yappy chihuahuas'.

I feel for you chi people, I really do. At least half the people seem to understand my dog is not a chi. Unfortunately it seems all the idiots seem to think she is a chihuahua.

Yeah... It doesnt' help that my dog does look a lot like the taco bell dog. It always astounds me how clever people think they are when they do the "Yo quiero taco bell" impression - like no one's ever thought of that before!

I am, however, a little dissappointed that I didn't get in on the casting of the new chihuahua movie....

I've had a guy make a rude remark before while walking Pebbles. Not sure exactly what he said, but I am sure he would be surprised to know that I have a larger dog at home. I get more people that Oooh and Aaah at her.

Yeah, I get crap from people all of the time. Once they actually meet my dogs and get to know them they end up wanting chihuahuas, though ;)

People think they are so original LOL. Whenever people hear Regis' name 99% of the time I get asked "Where's Kelly?" or if I have another dog near by "Is that Kelly?" (sorry if someone here has ever said that I dont recall lol). LOL.. I always smile and nod.

This is where I admit that I actually kinda want a LC chih for obedience. :p And maybe to show in breed, just for fun. :p

And I would be SUCH an indignant and defensive owner... :p

When we walk my cousin's 6 months old mini-doxie on the park, some people really mention to their child that he's a chihuahua.

I actually have never heard anyone rudely comment my Chihuahua, or Chihuahua mixes...Maybe its a California thing? They are so common here (Especially in my city..number one breed (Mixes mainly) at our shelter.

AND OMG LAURELIN!! I saw a Papillion today! Someone was walking it down my street! They are bigger than I thought. If I wasn't in a hurry I would have stopped and asked if I could take a picture. She looked like your Summer too! But the main thing I thought was they are bigger than I thought (This was my first time seeing one in person).

Didn't you know ALL little dogs are chi's? LOL!

I get it too, all the time. I just correct in a snobby tone of voice and walk away.

Any small dog with "pointy ears" is a chihuahua, of course

Unless they have blue eyes... then they're a husky puppy... like my Chloe :lol-sign:

We're fostering a small mixed breed dog... weighs about 12lbs, and I'm guessing is some kind of spitz mixed with I'm-not-sure and possibly some chihuahua. People always think he's a pure "blooded" chihuahua and will argue with me about it when I tell them that there's no way he's a purebred chi.

All I want to know is, with ALL that hair Ben is carrying, how in the hell could he possibly be a chi???
That and he is skinny with a huge tuck, he just does not have a chi body!

What is so weird is not the fact that people mistake the breeds. I mean... I don't think they look alike, but I guess they do in a way.... What I find weird is it's always the ones who think it's funny to make fun of chihuahuas who mistake her for a chi. I rarely get people just asking about my chi, but doing stupid chihuahua stereotype kind of things- oh yeah, I get that a lot.

:D That's exciting! They vary a lot in size, really. I know papillons ranging from 4 lbs (Miss Gherkin) to a 28 lb dog, but I'm not sure she's not a mix with a cocker spaniel even though her rather dubious breeders said she was pure papillon. I guess the biggest dog that is pure I know is 16 lbs or so. Mine are all pretty small- in the 6-7 lb range. In the show ring you see them from about 6-10 lbs. There's no weight in the standard, just height. They're quite a bit longer and taller than chis and not as stockiliy (that's not a word) built. Summer is actually almost at the top of the height for paps, but she's thin and lanky.

Ben is TINY! He is only 5lbs! He does not look that small though. He is also quite long with amazing legs that reach all the way up to his bum! Next to him Lilly looks like a coffee table!

i get it lal the time with mine, and now with ruby the comments just get even better.

some of my favorites are:

wow look at her with that dog, shes just wants to be paris (yeah im blazing the trail for 300lb paris hilton wannabes LMAO)

people will come up to vixie, whos tail is wagging and shes doing whatever tricks spring to mind for attention, only to say, "those dogs are mean and yappy" its like umm...yea ok.

shrugs. ive heard all the stereo types, then theres the "mines better" competitions when people tell me their (obviously at least 5lb) chihuahua is a teacup and because of such is smaller than my 3lb dodger man even when hes there to compare in person.
or
how big is he? 3lbs... Oh hes a little big, my aunt has one whos 1lb...to which eyes roll and walk away

or
wow hes tiny i bet you paid thousands for him...when i explain that good breeders dont charge more for the littler ones they tell me that their "teacup" is better because they paid $3000 at a petshop so that obviously means their dog is better...

*sighs*

around her there more of a status symbol for rich kids looking for "cute acessories"

I've sadly heard all of those as well. People always feel the need to tell me about how much smaller their friend's brother's mother's daughter's chihuahua is, even though my Rylie only weighs 4lbs. Then people will tell me about how "huge" Chloe is, even though she weighs 5.5lbs

One of the things I find so annoying is when people do the "My dog is smaller than yours" competition. Who cares? On bad days Lucy is about 2.5 pounds, and that is too skinny for her. I prefer her to be 3-3.5 pounds. When we got her, she was SKIN AND BONES and weighed 1.4 pounds (And remember, 3 pounds is healthy for her). And I had taken her to PetSmart to pick out a collar. Someone saw her and said "Oh wow...shes so tiny..I wish my chihuahua was that small". I told her my feelings about the situation, and how she is SEVERELY underweight.

People get stupid with the whole pound thing with Chihuahuas.

Like a couple months ago when someone joined another forum I am on, and when most people introduce themselves..they don't say how much each dog weighs. But this person did, as if anyone cares about that.
