I've never had a problem with studs, but I know people who have. Most of my piercings(my first 3 ear piercings were done with a gun, bc my mom had taken me to get them) were done with needles, and I would say in terms of my ears, the gun ones actually healed better... but the rest of my body healed fine(all with needles).

well anyway, she looks darn cute!!! ;)

She looks very darling! I love seeing tiny girls with ear rings :D

It never ceases to amaze me about the timing of Chaz threads! My daughter's birthday is coming up and she has asked for a second set of holes in her ears. We don't have an issue with it and said it was fine..........I planned on taking her to the mall to get it done this week/weekend sometime.

I had NO IDEA about the cleanliness of guns  I have several holes in my ears, the first set was done with a gun at age 12, the others I did myself with needles because my mom wouldn't let me get more done, LOL. The last one was a cartilage pierce with a gun about 10 years ago. I have never had any issues with healing, but I do have issues with cheap jewelry.........can't wear it.

Thanks for all who supplied info on the guns.......I will be checking into it further and hopefully finding a place to do it with a needle :)

We went the gun rout because many kids in my family have gotten them done that way with no issues at all. That, and because using a needle on an 11 month old who might suddenly move made me extremely nervous.

If any sign of infection appears, they will be removed IMMEDIATELY.

I prefer the needle, because they are hollow and cut out the skin, lessening trauma to the skin. But like I said before, I was way nervous about using a needle on her because I know she likes to move.

Never will I go to Wal-Mart for a piercing again, I also haven't had my ears done since then.
Agreed.
I went there my first 3 times of getting my ears pierced and every since time they got infected.
I went to Claires, got them done once, and they are clean as a whistle.
I am highly allergic to nickel (as stated before) and Wally World was using nickel 'guns' to pierce my ears, not to mention they were not that clean either.

Wow, I learned a lot from this thread . . . Years ago I had my ears pierced with a gun and they became so infected I finally just took the earrings out and let them close up. Now I'm tempted to go have them pierced again, at a tattoo place. How much does it usually cost, anyone know?

I had mine done by a doctor friend in my kitchen for my 40th birthday . Ice cube ( one martini ! ) and needle . A couple of years ago I lost one , so they closed up after a few months . I redid them myself the same way . My house rules were no ear piercings until 13 for my girls . It would be their decisions , not mine .

Thanks guys. I've always had good luck when it comes to gun, even with some of the stories I hear from other people. I've never had a problem myself. There is always a risk of infection, and I have my eyes pealed, trust me.

I've had piercings get infected that were made by a needle. I've heard of people who cant get piercings all together... their body rejects them.

After getting mine done when I was 3, they ended up closing up a few years later when I quit wearing earrings. When I was 12 I redid them myself with a thumb tack. Amazingly they did great and never got infected, and I still wear earrings to this day.

I will always get mine done at tattoo shops, because they are more educated about the process. I thought about taking her there, but the needle made me nervous. That and I wanted her to get both ears done at the same time... not one and then the other one as shes crying.

Boemy for one cartiledge peircing at 16 gauge and it cost me close to 30 dollars but it was a REALLY GOOD place. And the peircer was AMAZING! I am TERRIFIED of needles and I told him that and he showed it to me and talked me through it which helped ALOT!

BTW I got mine done for my 10th birthday, I had to be at least 10 to get them and *I* had to do the work. They have since closed up. I did have the gun and to tell the truth the needle barely hurt but the gun OMG. I liked the fact that I got them done at 10 becuase I felt grown up choosing them and all that.

Madison looks cute with pierced ears.

I actually hate seeing piercings on babies, but I think it's up to the family in question I suppose................

As for guns, well, I know the horror stories and still got my nose done with a gun and had exactly ZERO problems, so as long as you look after them, then you should be fine!!!

She does look cute, but I think anything would look cute on her ;)

It's not even the improper hole itself that worries me, it's the risk of hepatitis and other such viruses on the improperly and impossible to sterilize guns themselves! Think about how many people used the same gun to get their piercings as well. Gross.

My rule will be at least 10 years old before a piercing. I hope she does not manage to hurt herself on them.

She looks darling, and I'll say that I don't see anything wrong with doing ears that young, especially when, as in Madison's heritage, there's a tradition of it. I always loved seeing the Navajo babies in New Mexico with their tiny little earrings :)

Plus - you don't get the "boy or girl" question anymore! My mom thought about getting my sister's done when she was a baby because everyone thought she was a little boy, even if she had on a dress :rofl1:

Renee, Kevin and I discussed this when I was pregnant with Zac (the ultrasound showed a girl HA!) I just love little girls with ear rings..........I think they are adorable!

I wanted to get "her" ears done before 6 months and he was totally against it! His only "excuse" was that it should be "her" choice  I told him I didn't know a little girl that wouldn't want their ears pierced as soon as they started school and saw the other little girls.............then it would be harder to deal with healing wise because "she" would be able to pull them out/mess with them more. But, Zac turned out to be a boy so the discussion never turned to war :D

Adorable!

I think my first piercings where when I was ten; and I got second holes in my ears when I was 14 (the second holes have since closed). Both where done with guns and OK.

My first navel piercing was done with a needle and was terrible...it was crooked, shallow and looked awful...I pulled it...let it close and a year later got a second navel piercing which is excellent. I am prone to infection because I am very sensitive to metals but they used super hypoallergenic metals for me which helped :)

For me I will stick with the gun :)

I love seeing ear piercings on kids...lol...probably because I wish I had had them earlier :)
