I have some friends who are from an island in Micronesia, Chuk en Ipar. Very cool to be around them! Nech married a local girl. One of the best parts of summer is when Nech hosts a big cookout for the 4th. He's got several cousins, nephews, an uncle or two and various and sundry relatives here (strangely, all male) and they boat everyone out to an island in the middle of Cherokee Lake, camp for several days, fish, cook, swim and generally live the island life. I love seeing them all wearing their native clothes -- a long, batik printed cloth that's wrapped as a skirt. Even Charlene wears one.
And the food . . . . O.M.F.G. To die for!
Top it off with the fact that they are some of the most decent, kind, upstanding, hard working (Nech's often had 3 jobs) people I know and it doesn't get any better.
