I feel terrible, but I really feel like shooting Liz today. I just dunked her in the tub and then tied her outside. She's whining, but for all I care she can do that all day.

Her new thing is to poop, stomp it all around in her crate, and then go nuts when I get home so it's really everywhere. My apartment is carpeted EVERYWHERE. After working a 9hr overnight shift, I am seriously in tears when I come home. She's 6 years old, I've had her for 2 and a half, and she's always been fine in her crate (exception being, if she's in it and knows I'm upstairs, she will bark excessively... but when I'm home, I just let her sleep with me).

I am at my wit's end with this dog. I'm changing her feeding schedule to once in the morning and then we're going to walk and walk and walk and walk until I'm absolutely sure (short of an x-ray) that her bowels are empty.

For how many hours a day is she in a crate?

(sorry about the mess, but it sounds like she can't help it.) ?

No, I never hate my dogs. I feel irritated occassionally with them, but never fuming mad.

(((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))

Is this only an issue when she's home alone?

As for hating my dog -
Yep. I've hated my dog. I often hate them briefly when they're going through teenage stupids...but I know to just sit back, play with them and wait it out.

I did have a couple of previous dogs that I hated enough to rehome them.

I wouldn't say I've ever HATED him.
but I have had moments where I actually needed to get away from him and calm down. I didn't hate him, but I was PISSED AS HELL

I've had moments like when I came home to find he chewed my NEW heels, (took them out of the box), passed atleast 20 pairs of older shoes to get to them.. I was so mad

and I've had moments where I've had a horrible, horrible day. and any little thing, like I sat down with a bowl of popcorn and he jumped up on the sofa and knocked it over.. totally made me want to scream

For me, its all about taking a step back and going for a run/walk. Usually I realize that its mostly my fault/im over reacting or that its something totally trainable I can fix.

as for Liz, getting somebody to come by in the middle of the day to walk her? doggy daycare? maybe that kind of thing would help..

as a temp fix.. perhaps when you put her in her crate, make a path of newspaper/plastic going from her crate to the backyard door. when you open the crate door, get a slip lead on her and make her walk outside on the newspaper so it doesn't ruin your carpet

I can think of past dogs that pissed me off a lot more than the dogs I have right now though. Our 2nd GSD would not stop running the fence line and he trampled all my azaleas. Then we put in new "hardier" bushes and he ruined those too. He was running, watching and fascinated with the neighbor's dog. He needed to have more to do. This was years ago. So, yeah...I've been angry but I wonder how each of us perceives the word, "hate." That might be different too. Hate, to me is a very strong word so maybe we're using it to mean a little different connotation.

Ugh, thank you. Fran - funny thing, today, as I was on my way home, I thought of the newspaper thing... from her crate to the bathtub.

CP - I'm not sure I could ever hate her enough to rehome her, but she certainly has her moments.

Dober - I'm thinking if I change her feeding schedule she might be ok. It's about 9.5 hours she's in there, but it's just at night, to sleep. When she's sleeping on my bed she definitely holds it longer.

The problem with finding a dog walker is that I work overnights - 11 or 11:30 to 8 or 8:30 in the morning. I thought it'd be perfect, as the munchkins can just sleep when I'm not home. Everyone else is fine - just Liz. She was also stressed out by the storm last night, so I'm taking that into account. It's just that coming home to it after an overnight shift makes me want to kick her in the face and just CRY.

I've had moments where I've hated.... Ada. Usually when she puts holes in the other dogs. I've never had those moments with any of the dobes or Revy... I just don't think Ada and I "click." Luckily she has my husband for that... and luckily she gets dognapped by the inlaws for weeks on end.

It sounds like this pooping thing is fairly common for her? I'm guessing she's being crated for 9-10 hours, based on your shift... she may just not be able to hold it that long. Sucks, but not her fault. :( Do you have someone that can let her out for you, midway through your shift?

When you walk her, does she show any signs of "holding in" her poo?

I have to walk Pepper exactly a block before she can move her bowels. If we do not, she cannot go. Just inside and out a few feet will accomplish nothing. Walking works miracles.

Ugh, I'm sorry. That is definitely not what you want to come home to after a 9 hour day at work! To answer your title question, yes, I have been so angry with my dogs before that I had to put them outside or in a different room so I could get a break. For the problem, I think your idea to walk her until she empties her bowels is a good one. I've also found jogging with them can help. I also like to idea of putting a slip lead on her as you take her from the crate, so she doesn't have the chance to run all over your house.

Unfortunately it's only become common recently, and I can't figure out why :(

I don't have any friends that aren't sleeping at 2 or 3 am, either... jogging does help with the pooing so we'll have to start that again.

I wouldn't even know what to look for with a dog "holding it in" unless they're just trying to hold it for a second before they can get outside?

And Sizzle - I feel you on the Ada thing - Eerie and I are the same way. I get sososo angry with her when she chews up poor little Daisy. Thankfully she is daddy's girl and I don't have to deal with her that often... we don't "click" either.

That sucks

But to the original question. no I have never hated any of my dogs. Not when they chew holes in my carpet, holes in each other. Not when Zo would pee and poo in her crate, then dance in it. Not when they have killed cats..

I might be frustrated or upset. But so far I have never hated my dogs.

... now other people's dogs....

Nope, I can't say that I have ever truly hated my dog. I absolutely hated things he has done (hasn't happened since we got back *knocks on wood* but coming home after a long shift to find poop and pee on the floor) and certain aspects of his behavior (the barking and the reactivity, definitely), and I know we are not the best match for each other (he needs more patience in an owner and I need a more active dog that loves working), but we make it work. :p

This. Not the teenage stupids, but when they do really crappy things. No pun intended. Chili attacked Middie a couple weeks ago, and he retaliated by growling and trying to bite her, which was a pretty fair response. . . but I was completely taken aback by how much I wanted to kill him in that instant. I really, really disliked him for a day or so and refused to have anything to do with him except feeding and potty breaks. I was beyond pissed off and just wanted to beat him up. Chili's my baby, though. . . I bottle fed her as a kitten and I'm still overprotective of her, so I guess I shouldn't be so surprised.

Plottmom - ((((HUGS)))) It will go away eventually. I promise. It's tough while it lasts, though, and hard to remember why you love them. Is there any way to change the feeding schedule to once a day? The I would think she would poop once a day. That might help. And moving the crate closer to the bathroom might help.

I don't think I have actually hated mine, just close to it the other day. I have been on crutches because of mine for past three days. I would say I was very angry and disgusted with them while I sat in the emergency clinic for almost 3 hours, and in a lot of pain. Luckily no broken bones.

^This. I've had moments when i've looked at them and been like, "WTF-Really?????" but not hated them. I do get really irritated sometimes though.

I feel your pain with the crate pooping. When Jack was about 4 months he ate a sock (we didn't know it at the time). I went out and came home to the most awful smell...he had had a total ass-plosion in his crate. Not only were his paws covered in it, bit his tail was too and when I walked in he got all excited and flung poop all over the carpeted room.....

I would try feeding once a day as soon as you get home, and then a decent amount of exercise and potty breaks in between--good luck...

BTW-have you changed food lately? That could be the cause of the sudden pooping.

It does seem like y our schedule would be perfect. They're only in their crates at night sleeping. Is she unreliable to be left out of the crate? With it dark, and everything quiet, mine usually just sleeps. (My dog really has a hard time seeing when the lights are out, so he does sleep unless there is a light coming from somewhere).

If the only thing she is likely to do while out of the crate is poop, a pile of poop would be easier to clean up than what is in the crate and has been stomped on and tracked around.

I would leave her out, and if she poops, pick it up and flush it.

I've disliked Ozzy intensely. He's really more Steven's dog, much as I hate to admit it. They get along a whole lot better. I've really bonded closely with Enzo, and so Oz and I don't spend much time together anymore.

As for other peoples dogs, YES. And a cat that is currently looking at me, I have times where I REALLY don't want anything to do with him, he's such a demanding little asshole

Amber pisses me off, more now than before. She has decided within the last few months that she does not need to obey me at all. I know she can hear me when I call her. I know she can. She just does not come. Or she'll walk away. On a specific occasion, I had just given her a bath outside, and I was about to tie her to something to dry off, and she slipped out of my grasp and went in something that smelled SO HORRIBLE. I was about to go to a concert with a guy I liked. I had to give her 2 more baths, then go and take another shower myself. That was a month ago and the smell is still not completely gone. It's so gross that I literally did not pet her for two weeks. I really disliked her for a weeks, maybe even hated her and just wanted her to go away. (Not just because of the smell, but the fact that she ignored me on purpose, and that it was just really bad timing.)

I'm sorry about Liz, though. I hope you're able to figure something out, I have no advice.

I've never hated them, but I do get very very frustrated with them. I can also completely relate to coming home from working a long night shift and feeling completely overwhelmed. Mina is my dog through and through and when I come home from working nights she goes NUTS because she just wants to hang out when all I want to do is sleep, I give her a bit of attention and then she'll chill out. However some mornings she just won't settle and it drives me insane.

I was also very angry when Upendi sent my brand new wii flying across the room the other day. Especially seeing as right before that her and Mina were playing and she got unacceptably rough. I just crated her for a bit to give myself time to chill out and then all was good.
