Okay so day 3, no owners. In case anyone is seriously considering here's what I've found out about her so far:
- She loves people and is very very people friendly. She is very eager to meet new people and get pets. So far she's tolerated handling very well.
- Her energy level is moderate imo. She enjoys going outside and putting that nose to the ground and trotting around the yard and she can keep it up for quite a while without stopping. She enjoys walks but really after about 15-30 minutes, she'll come in and just want to curl up at your feet. I definitely think she'll need some exercise but nothing too intense.
- She walks okay on a lead. She will pull some and she's strong for such a small dog. But it is not constant at all and most the walk she's pretty good at loose leash walking. I think with some training she'll be great on a leash.
- She does seem to want to chase cars some. We found her in the road chasing cars and while we walked on a lead, she'd pull after some of the cars that passed.
- She hasn't been around other dogs much here since we're keeping her separate from the paps. But so far she seems to not have any immediate issues with DA or reactivity. She did end up coming face to face with Beau on accident last night and she seemed mildly interested but polite. They sniffed noses and we shoved him back inside. On walks she hasn't reacted to any barking dogs at all past perking up her ears. We were charged by two off leash small dogs and she didn't react. And then the idiot neighbor's husky came up to us. Ada tucked her tail a bit and seemed slightly nervous around the bigger dog but no real reaction either.
- She likes car rides a lot.
- The biggest problem is she howls in her crate or when left outside alone. She is getting MUCH better in a short amount of time. She used to howl for 30+ minutes and now she just barks for maybe a minute or two. I don't think she has SA (I've had a dog with real SA before). I think she is just wanting to be inside with everyone. I think with some crate training this won't be a problem. She definitely needs and wants to be an indoor dog.
- She does jump on people in greeting and isn't exactly gentle about it. She's figured out very quickly not to jump on me so I think that would be a quick fix.
- No idea about cats or small animals.
- She does not like baths and hasn't tried to go into the pool but she loves mud and seems to seek it out on our walks.
- she seems young and healthy according to the vet. She's definitely full grown but her teeth are very white so we're thinking she's young.
- she will probably need a professional groom. Her coat seems to be a bit damaged. I think if I were keeping her, I'd go ahead and clip her down a bit.
- She likes the tennis ball some but isn't crazy about it. Sometimes she is really into playing toys and other times she's just not interested at all.
- She likes to stand up on her back legs and sniff. It's adorable.
- Definitely has an independent streak and likes to follow her nose. I would definitely NOT trust her off leash. Maybe with some training but she really doesn't strike me as an off leash kind of dog at all.
- She's very happy and smiley all the time. It's contagious how happy go lucky this dog is!
All in all I think she'd be a great pet for a lot of people with a little work. I haven't seen any serious behavioral issues with her yet although I know something could pop up. So far she seems like a very stable and well balanced little dog.
