She looks like a border terrier to me, perhaps mixed with something else to make that coat longer like that. I hope you find who she belongs to! Good luck. :)

I really wish I could. I keep telling myself 'don't get attached! Don't get attached!' But she is so sweet and happy that it's contagious.

No one on Chaz wants a scruffy little terrier? :D

I would so take her if I was closer to you Laur, she seem she would fit perfectly into my terrier clan. And the sniffing the ground thing. Teagan does that ALL-THE-TIME! and its hard to get her attention back on me.

And the being indapendant is so another terrier trait. I really hope you find a home for her, but I also think you should keep her. Just saying:)

I also think she looks very much like a border terrier

Oh, Laur, I'd taker her in a HEARTBEAT if I didn't have 2 dogs already plus other animals to care for.

She is exactly what I'd love my next dog to look like. And you know I love terriers!

Okay so day 3, no owners. In case anyone is seriously considering here's what I've found out about her so far:

- She loves people and is very very people friendly. She is very eager to meet new people and get pets. So far she's tolerated handling very well.

- Her energy level is moderate imo. She enjoys going outside and putting that nose to the ground and trotting around the yard and she can keep it up for quite a while without stopping. She enjoys walks but really after about 15-30 minutes, she'll come in and just want to curl up at your feet. I definitely think she'll need some exercise but nothing too intense.

- She walks okay on a lead. She will pull some and she's strong for such a small dog. But it is not constant at all and most the walk she's pretty good at loose leash walking. I think with some training she'll be great on a leash.

- She does seem to want to chase cars some. We found her in the road chasing cars and while we walked on a lead, she'd pull after some of the cars that passed.

- She hasn't been around other dogs much here since we're keeping her separate from the paps. But so far she seems to not have any immediate issues with DA or reactivity. She did end up coming face to face with Beau on accident last night and she seemed mildly interested but polite. They sniffed noses and we shoved him back inside. On walks she hasn't reacted to any barking dogs at all past perking up her ears. We were charged by two off leash small dogs and she didn't react. And then the idiot neighbor's husky came up to us. Ada tucked her tail a bit and seemed slightly nervous around the bigger dog but no real reaction either.

- She likes car rides a lot.

- The biggest problem is she howls in her crate or when left outside alone. She is getting MUCH better in a short amount of time. She used to howl for 30+ minutes and now she just barks for maybe a minute or two. I don't think she has SA (I've had a dog with real SA before). I think she is just wanting to be inside with everyone. I think with some crate training this won't be a problem. She definitely needs and wants to be an indoor dog.

- She does jump on people in greeting and isn't exactly gentle about it. She's figured out very quickly not to jump on me so I think that would be a quick fix.

- No idea about cats or small animals.

- She does not like baths and hasn't tried to go into the pool but she loves mud and seems to seek it out on our walks.

- she seems young and healthy according to the vet. She's definitely full grown but her teeth are very white so we're thinking she's young.

- she will probably need a professional groom. Her coat seems to be a bit damaged. I think if I were keeping her, I'd go ahead and clip her down a bit.

- She likes the tennis ball some but isn't crazy about it. Sometimes she is really into playing toys and other times she's just not interested at all.

- She likes to stand up on her back legs and sniff. It's adorable.

- Definitely has an independent streak and likes to follow her nose. I would definitely NOT trust her off leash. Maybe with some training but she really doesn't strike me as an off leash kind of dog at all.

- She's very happy and smiley all the time. It's contagious how happy go lucky this dog is!

All in all I think she'd be a great pet for a lot of people with a little work. I haven't seen any serious behavioral issues with her yet although I know something could pop up. So far she seems like a very stable and well balanced little dog.

Oh my, someone here needs to take her! I love her smile, its way too cute. I would wait a couple more days at least though, we kept a stray dog for five days because the owners didn't think to call the humane society until then

Definitely keeping her a while longer for sure. I am not sure how long generally you need to keep a stray? I know shelters usually hold strays around here for 72 hours before placing them for adoption. At this point I'm not optimistic we'll find her owner, but maybe I'm wrong. (hopefully)

Also can I rant a second? I've had several people ask about the ad on craigslist. Every single one is 'can I see a picture?' Then I ask them to describe their missing dog and I get a response of 'scruffy'. I described the dog as a terrier mix so that's kind of 'duh'. Nothing about color or how big or any of that. Leaves me feeling uneasy to say the least.

How do you tell if these are actually the owners or not if they can't describe their dog or give me a picture?

awww, do you HAVE TO trim her up?
Keep her face and neck scruffy.
I have no idea how grooming longer haired dogs goes but my mom keeps her bearded collie mix short, and they trim his beard all short and straight and bushy and I think it isn't very attractive that way. I much prefer some scraggly look to longer haired dog faces.

But that's me. And she isn't my dog (Though, I wish she were!). <3<3<3

I probably would for now because she's got some mud pretty much baked into her hair on her sides and legs. I've give her 3 baths and it's still there. I think I'd let her grow her hair out though later. I definitely do prefer the scraggly look myself. :D

I dunno, I would imagine it's not the actual owner if they can't describe the dog... I mean, I could see not having a picture maybe, even though in this day and age it's a little strange that there wouldn't be any pictures. But gosh, if Auggie went missing and I found an ad posting where somebody thought they had him, I'd be sending the biggest description of everything possible. And I would be e-mailing over and over and over until I heard one way or another too...
