Boris went to the dog park to run at 630 this morning. He stood around for a while and then gave up and ran around. He gets on just fine with all the dogs he met. He seems to want to attach himself to every man he sees, though. I think he misses his daddy.

He likes kids a lot, and wagged like mad when he saw two 11 year old boys running towards him, even though he had never seen them before. They are good boys and approached him slowly for the last few feet--he walked up to say "Hi" and get petted.

So far he has shown no signs of food aggression, and slept in his crate just fine after we threw a sheet over it at Red's suggestion.

That's great to hear... He's never had any food aggression so that shouldn't be an issue (except once when our old cat tried to eat from his bowl... he growled and we put the kitty away). The things he guarded were whatever he picked up in the house (because he knew it really annoyed us and could sense the tension I guess).

Thanks for the updates!

I have known a couple. It has been the exception tho. Most have been very easy going dogs. I took one home yesterday that was in my yard. He was hot too. For once there was an id tag with the address on it. So it was easy enough to leash him up, get the air conditioning going in the car and return him. A mom ran out with a baby on her hip and a 2 year old. SHe said they were just going out to circle around in the car and find him. THe little girl was all over the dog happy. SHe was worried. ONe I knew that didn't was a field lab raised in a kennel and had no experience. THe other had been harmed by children so it was understandable. Sounds like Boris is doing well. Good sign.

I've been to a training/agility seminar in which there was a golden with very very similar problems as Boris, it seems. This dog was great with people, good with other dogs.. until there was food or a toy around. It was HIS and he'd stop at nothing to make sure it was. Still, this dog could compete in agility and be a wonderful pet.

I'm so glad Boris is getting a second chance and wasn't PTS. :)

Sorry ..... I've never know one who didn't .
I have never met a Golden either that did not just adore kids.:p

I'm so glad to hear everything is going good and I am sorry I was so harsh on Fran when I did not know the whole situation. I see now that Fran was very overwhelmed and I am very sad for you and your husband but I think you did the right thing. Hopefully your husband is not to sad and sees that Boris has a good home.

My brother's best friend as a child got mauled by his golden retriever, his pit bull on the other hand was a very friendly dog.

Anyway, I'm glad Boris is doing well and can't wait to see him get to his final destination soon where he can get the help he needs.

Breed guidelines are great, but within guidelines there are still dogs that dont fit the "mold" for every breed.

German shepherds are fearless protectors..
Kenya is scared of brooms lol

Every dog should be treated as an individual and tested as such. aka: dont go out and adopt a golden because you have kids... most do love kids. but some don't

Anyways, glad to hear boris is settling in :)
