Our fist dog, Ginger, always loooved socks. Something about the stink of them! Lol. She especially loved them dirty and worn.

Boris sounds happy and content, and I feel like there's only good and improvement to come! :)

Renee it's what we ended up doing to get him over shoes... we gave him an old sneaker that was his. He still went after other shoes but it wasn't as bad.

He does eat socks sometimes though so be careful (and washcloths... he vomited a very compacted washcloth last month).

We're in the midst of bomb-proofing the house (it's baby-proof, but the baby isn't interested in socks, shoes, paper, etc)
The only problem we've had is he thinks he's "king sh!t" according to my hubby. He got on our couch and growled at hubby when he told him to get off...so hubby tipped the couch up until he slid off while telling him "off"...seems to have worked. We've also had to do this with our mattress when he decided he belongs on it and we ask him to get off.

He's been very good with the kids and sweet and nice. He just seems to have the opinion that things go HIS way or the highway...he's been in for a surprise that it doesn't fly very well with us. He leaves their toys alone (mostly cars and legos so not too soft and interesting apparently)

That problem we did not have. We were able to do whatever we wanted with him except steal HIS socks. Maybe he realizes this is a permanent placement and he has to set things up the way he wants them. Seriously, he never grumbled about anything. We didn't let him up on the bed though. Only Uncle Fred is allowed to sleep on the bed.

It could be that having Uncle Fred here as the boss dog made Boris less pushy. Now he is the only male with two girls. maybe that makes him feel like hot stuff.

It seems worse than it was here, ack. I'm glad you guys seem to know how to deal with that... we were horrible at it.

Yeah we didn't really invite him onto the bed either, he just decided that's where he was laying and we could f-off. He has a nice cushy bed on the floor. We weren't mad, just asked him nicely to get down with a treat and he snarled...so the bed got picked up on one side and he got slid off...
I think it's kind of pushing to see what he can get away with at this point, which isn't much.

He's not really "bad", just kind of like "This is what I'm doing, kthnxbai" lol...he's adjusting well to our routine and other than those couple of incidents hasn't been "nasty" at all...I don't find him to be dangerous, but needing specific management so it doesn't escalate.

You're doing a great thing here. I'm so impressed with your determination to help Boris fit in and be nice. I'll definitely follow this thread to read updates.

Sounds like he's just trying to go head to head with his new family and he'll have to figure out that he's not going to be given top dog position. lol It's a lot of change for him but I bet he'll settle into a routine quickly. he'll probably be happy to know his place :)

If Boris growls at me (i.e. the sofa incident which luckily hasn't happened since) she gets really excited, hops up and down barking at him and lunging...otherwise she's very nice to him.

I guess the bed/sofa incidents were isolated. He hasn't done anything like that since. He also found out that not all socks are "tasty" to chew on after I sprayed every dirty sock with bitter apple and let him go for them. He made some really nasty faces and was NOT happy about that, but finally gave up on them for a chew toy and seemed content. :) He's fitting in well.

Very clever ;). I should try that with Sawyer though he doesent resource guard anything. But he LOOOOOOOOOOOOVES dirty stinky socks.

Sounds like things are still going in a positive direction for Boris. Which is awesome :D

I think I got a taste of that tonight Grammy. He's just starting to come out of his shell and be "friendly" rather than kind of nervous and confused.
He's been sweet with the kids, all wiggly and playful. Licks the baby, chased my 2 year old around the house (playfully because Sean was petting him then running) however, his favorite is my 5 year old.
I did end up trading him out of a stuffed toy (it's the baby's) and he was fine about that, even though he didn't want to let go of it and I had to lead him across the house to find something suitable to "trade up" with.

He's quite the character and the whole family loves him, even with his sock fetish. :)

It's great that he's settling in! I'm sure he'll turn into a fine dog with patience and consistency. :)
