They are always the ones bashing PC's and we generally leave them alone.
This. I have members of my family, and friends, that think using a Mac makes them more intelligent. In reality they use Macs because they cant keep viruses off of their PCs and they have never even visited the really disgusting places on the intardnets. I used Windows for years visiting some of the nastiest interwebs, using a free antivirus and kept my machines "clean".
I dont think people who think they are superior for using Macs are the typical Mac user, they are the more vocal Mac user who buy into the hype. Like I said, I believe the typical Mac user are the ones that just want it to work.
Now if you are heavy into photo, video or music editing, run dont walk to the Mac Store. My friends who do any or all of those use Macs and I have to believe there is a reason. I dont know what it is but there has to be a reason for it, and if I needed to do any sort of heavy multi media editing that I couldnt find a FOSS solution for I would go Mac for that and use linux for everything else.
I prefer Windows over Mac OS, but I prefer Ubuntu Linux over Windows for the price and usability. I find Linux far easier to use then Windows, I can get farther into a Windows Domain with Linux then I could with any Windows Home Premium. 3 Windows Admins didnt like me tromping through their domains with Linux, but they wouldnt upgrade me to 7 Pro so they dealt with it because it was faster to let me use my laptop when I couldnt directly access the servers. By time I did get 7 Pro on my laptop my contract ended with the company I was helping support.
My desktops, laptop and server are far more customizable then ever since I stopped using Windows, and even more so then if I used OSX.
I even own an eMac. I just need to get it from my parents house and do a wipe and reload with Leopard, it wont support Snow Leopard. I need to play with it, break it, and fix it because I have to support it. I wont switch to Mac because of how locked down it is for customizing and (main reason)
I dont know how to make it secure. Macs are very unsecure, the fact that they are 4% of the marketplace gives them relative security.
Even Puck, a Microsoft Guru, is a Mac user. I can only guess as to why, it just works and
he knows how to secure it.
ETA: Puck may not be doing anything on the Mac that needs to be secured and has it isolated on his network. Thats what I plan on doing when I get my eMac home and online.
