After hearing a hilarious story involving Hooters, I had a conversation with Ian last night and am now wondering what your take on Hooters is :p

Would you go to Hooters with your children?

What if your children were a certain age? Would you go to Hooters or would you pick a different restaurant?

Do you think Hooters is a good place to take your family?

Do you think that Hooters is okay for little boys and not for little girls?

Discuss ;)

Yes, but it may just be the way I was brought up :p Every thing is open, nothing is a taboo subject, so really it is no big deal for us

I don't think it's necessarily a bad place for kids (not a place I'd choose specifically because I wanted my kids to be entertained for an event or their birthday LOL), but it's not a place I'd choose to eat at anyway. lol. If I wanted to go out for wings/burgers/typical bar food with my family, there are many, many places I'd choose before Hooters.

One version of their wings is good - the other is nasty. Of course, it's been a couple of years since I had any, I can't remember which is good and which is nasty, LOL.

Nope, I wouldn't say it's a family restaurant, but I wouldn't say it's too much different than, say, Buffalo Wild Wings. Sure, I guess kids can come in there and eat - I mean, they (BWW) have a kids menu and all - but the vibe of the place is one step away from "sports bar," not the kind of place you go for a nice little family sit-down meal.

ETA: Also, for a place famous for wings... do kids really want to eat wings? I mean, I think wings are way too much work for the amount of chicken meat on them. I can't imagine kids would be thrilled with that, LOL.

I wouldn't eat there, but I don't see what the big deal is. Big boobs? I see those on the street everyday and so do kids.

Take with it from you will. My 13 year old brother just went on a school trip where they had (in his words) a "peep show." Meaning he saw a tape on sex info (that included info on orgasms, among many other things I don't think I could post - this was at a museum) and he isn't scarred for life (and I haven't met anyone from the country who is), he found it amusing. When I talked with him about it he laughed. If that happened in the states, I'm sure he would be put in therapy, his teacher charged, and the school facing a lawsuit. FYI, this was in Holland where everything is wide open. So really, I don't think Hooters would effect him more than that did. Just different cultures/different strokes for different folks.

So yea, Hooters? No big deal to me. Blame it on the way I was raised I guess, lol.

I used to go there all the time. I love Hooters. Their wings do suck, lol. Their snow crab legs, chicken sandwiches, and fries are pretty good, though. And I'm an avid people watcher. Hooters is AMAZING for people watching.

If I had a kid, I don't know that I'd take him/her there. I don't think it's very family friendly. Not because of the waitresses, as they're fairly clothed in shirts, shorts, and tights. But it's a bar. I wouldn't take my kid to a bar.

I have no problem with my children seeing different levels of clothing, or even naked body parts. Heck all my friends and myself extend breastfeeding so my children are very used to seeing breasts...however, I feel Hooters objectifies women so for that reason, no, I wont go there and I would not take my children.

Nope. wont take my children. Heck, I don't even go myself and my husband doesn't want to go because he thinks it definitely objectifies women. I've gone before because I've had roommates that worked there so I don't care so much really... but don't like the food so what's the point?

If the food didn't suck, I'd have no issue going, or bringing kids. The boob thing is and always has been simply an amusing innuendo, and past that it's not really an adult-oriented restaurant by any means. Most pubs and many restaurants objectify their waitresses as much or more than Hooters, not that I agree with it, but it's not something that Hooters is alone in doing. :p

ETA: Related, and interesting:

I went there once when I was, like, 10 and my brother was a newborn. We have a picture of him at like 4 months old with a big boobed Hooters waitress - pretty funny!

It's not a place I'd choose to eat. But if for some reason we had to go there, I would bring my nonexistent children and not really worry about it too much.

As far as objectifying women, I think Tilted Kilt is worse. At least the Hooters girls wear shirts, shorts, and tights. The Tilted Kilt girls wear bras and skirts. Lol.

I don't frequent anyplace where I would feel bad if a relative of mine was working there. I've been to a Hooters before and while my food was average and my waitress was above average I still didn't warm to the idea of working there as a piece of eye candy.

I don't think it's made to be super family friendly but I don't see a problem with kids being there. If they go to public school or ever leave the house they see worse. I've been to Applebees or Fridays and seen way worse then I have at Hooters EVER

So every time I check Chaz and see this, I keep thinking of this story:

USATODAY.com - Former Hooters waitress settles toy Yoda suit

:rofl1:

(FYI, can't guarantee site since looked it up quick on my phone since I can't post the pic, and the story whether true or false. . . I never looked up an article but see demotivation posters, etc everwhere about it. I find it hilarious, but maybe my sense of humor is off ;))

This. Hooters at least allows their servers to keep their middles covered and aren't forced to walk around in high heels.

However, as Sparks said, I wouldn't subject anyone to their food. I've eaten there plenty of times when I was hanging out with the CSC and each time is was like "ugh...I miss BWW."

I suppose since I'm a vegan and will raise my children vegan it would be an odd choice of restaurant.

Personally, I'd rather pick a more chill restaurant to take the kids to. Like, a cafe with lots of pillows where you sit at a small table on the floor and eat Indian food and fruit salad.

But I suppose, if I had a non-veg ex, or babysitter, or my parents wanted to take the kids out to eat I would rather they not go to hooters. I'm not sure I would be worried about the boys, but I guess I wouldn't want my daughter thinking she has to look like that or that that is what guys like girls to look like.

Hmmn...
