Ilsa and Ronin are from a responsible show breeder in Illinois. Ada is from a local working breeder. I'd go back to both,, no doubt about it!

Jack came from a responsivle show breeder.
Dreyfuss came from the local shelter.
Chyna came from a byb.

I would definitly get another dog form Jack's breeder as long as she had something I liked. I wouldn't hesitate to go to the shelter again. I would definitely NOT get a dog from another byb. I didn't know better at the time, but I do now.

Buster, Bailey and Gus came from responsible breeders, but they had something wrong with them that made them not show quality, so we got them at a reduced priced. Sadie was given to us from my aunt who rescued her from a severely abusive situation. Lily was being starved and abused. Her previos owner were BYB's and some how their lab got out and got pregnant by my other neighbors rottie, who is actually a breeder and owns a kennel. Lily was rescued at exactly 2 months of age.

Kylee was rescued by the vet clinic I worked at and I took her home just long enough to find her a home - 16 years ago now .. *L* .. guess I'm not likely to find her a home at this point!

Trick came from a breeder in NJ who is well-known for a book she wrote about dogs.

Dora came to me from a chow person who had purchased her for her breeding program, but decided Dora wasn't going to work out - her loss, my gain! She was 14 months old when I picked her up.

Khana came from an excellent breeder in Ontario, Canada. I'd take another just like her in a heartbeat! She's so amazing it's almost unreal.

Tazer came from a breeder in Texas who breeds working line shepherds.

Previous to these dogs - my first GSD (Dawson) was from a BYB but I got him for free. Loved him dearly, wonderful dog, but knowing now what I do I wouldn't do it again. The Australian shepherd I had (Lady) I adopted when she was a year old, owner just couldn't take care of her. I had another shepherd (Tori) who came to me - free of charge - from a breeder who ended up with a bunch of puppies she couldn't sell. At least she decided it was better to give them away than to dump them on a shelter or rescue. I think she quit breeding after that.

Sarama is from a rescue (which is now out of business) but I would definately go rescue again. I'm not wedded to the idea (responsible breeders are under consideration for the next dog) But if I saw another gem in rescue, I'd snap him/her up in a second.

Lizzie came from the Dothan Animal Shelter - I would definitely go back - one day.

Major came from my grandmother - she isn't breeding any more.

Echo is from a responsible breeder friend of the family who does conformation & field work with his dogs. If I were to get another lab, I'd probably go back to him, but I think my next dog will end up being a rescue

Flicka came from an out of state Golden Retriever rescue. I would definately be open to going through breed rescue again - no matter the breed.

Pepe (and Lillian) came through my all-breed foster-based rescue. Both were "foster failures" as we like to call them. I would definately go this way again if an amazing dog passed through my doors again...

As for previous dogs...

Lorelei, Hero, Sunshine and Rufus, and all the rest of the Rhodesians, were either from our lines, or from reputable show/working breeders.

Fluffer (Std Poodle) was from a good breeder friend of my dad's. He retired from breeding and showing, and was rehoming some of his dogs, as he was unable to take care of them anymore. Fluffer was already a show and breeding prospect dropout, but my dad agreed to take him.

Charlie (Shepherd Mix) was a stray that followed me home one day. I put up signs, and called all the local animal controls and police departments to attempt to find his owners. Nada. So he became mine.

As for my next dog, I don't know. I've entertained the possibility of getting a Rhodesian (which would be from a reputable breeder)...but that's not for sure yet...but if a truely amazing dog came through my rescue, I don't know if I'd say no.

Auggie is from a breeder, and my next dog will probably be from the same breeder. I am totally happy with my breeder, but my third or fourth dog will likely be from another line. There are a few other breeders that I REALLY like and would love a dog from when the time comes...
I have nothing against rescue dogs, and if I was presented with one I know I wouldn't say no... but because I have specific temperament expectations for my dogs, I probably won't seek one out through rescue.

My three all came from high-kill shelters.

Tamlyn was 5 months old and on his last chance. While his roommate was trying his best to charm my mum and I, he was at the back, looking pretty sad and resigned. I took one look at him, turned to Mum, and said "He's the one. He's gonna be a good dog." 10 years later, he's proven me right every chance he's gotten. He came into my life when I was 16 and has been there for me through many a rough time. There will never be another dog like him for me.

Cissy was 8 weeks old and still with her litter. She was asleep and I asked to see her. They woke her up and it was love at first sight for the both of us. They warned me that she had the beginnings of kennel cough. I took her anyway. When I came back for her after doing paperwork, she jumped into my arms and I took her home. We lost a lot of sleep together and we nearly lost her, but she's still around at the ripe age of 2 and a half years. She was a challenge in puppyhood, but she's turned into quite the distinguished young lady.

Odie came from the same network of shelters as Cissy. He was 3 months and his picture called to me on their website. I went to meet him and he was in the sick tank. They told me treatment would be expensive. Again, I didn't care. I took him home. He developed a bad case of Demodex mange. It's been difficult, but we got through it. He had his last medicated bath a month ago after 2 negative skin scrapings and is looking better than ever. He is now 9 months old.

Would I do it again? Heck yes!

Zeus--local humane society foster. They did a good job with him, but I will probably not go back. I recently found out that they don't foster bullies, chows, rotties, or anything like that because they "only want to adopt out nice dogs."

Voodoo--stray puppy who decided to follow Hubby home. Nobody ever claimed him, and we were conned into falling in love with him before we realized what a little Chaos Demon he was.

Walker- the pound and yes.

Patches- from a lady who moved to FL then a month later was moving back to Mass. (why she didnt take her to rehome her there i will never know). We were just going to have her long enough to find her a home.....3 years ago. My mom has always wanted a Newfy or Saint and my bro fell in love with her after his initial "f*** that we arent keeping her". and yes.

Scirrocco- Greyhound Pets of America and my mom would but Grey's arent my thing right now.

Whisper- from a Havanese breeder

Tytus-An APBT.

Booger- A byb situation that we werent going to get but I had to rescue her. SO i geuss you can say a byb as a rescue situation LOL.

Farm dogs- drop offs on our ranch- we had anything and everything in them LOL. even a chi. that went on rides with me.

I got all but one off of craigslist. I envy those who have puppies, but I could never say no to faces like these... The one was left behind when family moved to Kentucky. I've never had to pay because people are always getting dogs they don't know the end size of.

Bruzer- I wouldn't say he's from a byb because it was an older couple who had 2 pugs and had a litter every once in a while. They were not in it for the typical byb reason- $$. They just loved their pugs.

Gunnar- a small local breeder who has all German imports. She does hips and basic health testing and participates in conformation and Schutzhund. Not the best breeder, but not the worst, and Gunnar so far is a great dog in all aspects. I might go back to her again but my next GSD will be a working line dog. One of the guys I train with breeds for police work and he's got some dogs with amazing drive- I'd like one of his next, a female.

Daisy- a more high end show line breeder. She has health tested all her dogs for generations. She interviewed us more than we interviewed her. We'd definitely go back to her for another Dane.
