I agree. Putting a living, breathing, feeling dog through so much pain & torment just for one's own entertainment or monetary gain... is beyond sick! Not only that, but you KNOW practically none of these dogs get proper medical care for their injuries, or are treated well or like a companion at all in their entire life. There's an awesome movie that I saw about the life of a fighting dog, on HBO or something... I have to look it up. I see it as no different than walking up to a dog and beating it to death yourself for "fun".
There was a very interesting arguement, which Pitties came into, on a Betta fish forum (yeah... I breed Bettas). Some people were all for Betta fighting in the right environment (with plakats aka short-finned fighting Bettas, in the proper environment, given plenty of conditioning and rest afterwards, etc) & some were against it but many were for it. Personally, I STILL see Betta fighting as sick, because it is for entertainment! The arguement was that fighting is natural for Bettas... which is completely false. 1) Betta Splendens have been bred for centuries to BE aggressive... originally, and with other variations of Bettas, they are not nearly as aggro. 2) Placing 2 male Bettas in an enclosed container (usually very small!) is in no way natural. In the wild, with miles of rice paddies around them, the 2 might have a scuffle for territory, but there's tons of room to retreat. 3) It is inhumane to set up & take pleasure out of watching any innocent animal bring pain to another.
