Dog fighters seem to think that putting their dogs in a fighting pit and letting them go at each other is A OK...what would you tell an ignorant dog fighter if they told you that dog fighting is no different than the sport of boxing?

Everyone chip in..I'd like to hear it all from the heart!

In boxing, fighters sign up. It's their choice to enter the ring. Not only that, but boxers don't die (not often anyhow, LOL.)

Boxers are aware of the risks and can make a conscious decision whether to fight or not. Dogs have no idea what could happen to them, they're just running on instinct.

I would ask them if it was ok if people put their children in a ring together and encouraged them to hit each other with baseball bats.

The problems is that no argument you can come up with will work because their world view is so twisted and alien to you that they will just write you off as over emotional, or "uninformed" or better yet.... ignorant to reality.

Some people feel the need to raise and encourage a dog to be everything they are genetically and emotionally unable to do. Many dog fighters are weak of mind and spirit, these cowards admire strength and bravery but lack both so they exploit man's best friend and God greatest creation to "achieve" these qualities.

A boxer knows what they're doing, they don't get shoved into a ring.
Besides the odd case, as far as I'm aware, people aren't bred and forced to be boxers. A dog reacts in that way because that is what they are bred to do. They feel fear and they react on instinct. It's a fight to the death unless someone intervenes.
A person has their own will and has a way out.
A boxer doesn't live to serve the sole purpose of being someone else's fighter.

I was watching Ultimate Fighting Champion yesterday..and I felt really bad...guilty really..REALLY REALLY GUILTY!

I was watching these people beating the SH8T out of each other..blood everywhere..broken noses, swollen black eyes...it was pretty gruesome..my boyfriend is into it..he watches often..and his brother is training for the UFC...

Watching it..I started thinking about dog fighting...and this may sound soooo terrible...but I was thinking to myself..how is dog fighting any different? These fighters don't seem to mind getting beaten up and dealing with broken noses, bleeding foreheads and cheecks...maybe it doesn't hurt them then? So how does it hurt the dogs?

Maybe I'm not grasping the full reality of dog fighting...

Please by all means, I hope you all don't think I approve of dog fighting..I'm probably the most emotional person when it comes ot animal cruelty..that's probably why I feel so guilty for having thought that last night..I couldn't even fall asleep properly because of my guilt.

I'm evil aren't I? What's wrong with me? Am I a bad person? :(

boxers are done in the ring and they know the fight is over. a dog bred to kill other animals can't turn off its drive so easily. its not fair to let an animal think that you have to kill every other dog that is put in your vicinity.

You aren't evil. You are showing what separates you from the creeps who fight dogs. You recognize the excitement but you also recognize the cruelty and evaluate your thinking. UFC fighters are trained and thinking beings that weigh the pros vs the cons of fighting and make an informed decision on whether they should fight or continue to fight. Dogs are tortured and abused to exaggerate genetic tendencies and lack the ability to truly eval the pros vs cons of fighting.

I think we as humans enjoy (by nature) the excitement of watching combat; vicarious combat has all the excitement but none of the dangerous risks. So you aren't evil for your feelings you are only evil if you give in and make those action a reality. No one suffers from your thoughts only your actions. (Action= fighting dogs /I don't mean UFC fighters)

I love to watch Sal and his best friend (Elwood the APBT) play and wrestle in the backyard. They play rough but never growl or bite. They have been buddies for 4 years so please no one tell me they are going to kill each other soon. They are never left a lone either.

That dog owner only wishes that I would of talked to them about how selfish there actions are. I honestly think I'd attack the person. That is no different then making kids fight eachother for amusment. It's sick and discusting.

Boxers/UFC fighters are doing this by choice in order to win a PRIZE.

Dogs being put in a pit to fight are fighting for their LIVES.

You can only compare the two if the human fighters are fighting only to live and for no other reason. If they're fighting for a title or a belt or a medal or to be known as the "baddest" around, than it's a completely different scenario.

I agree. Putting a living, breathing, feeling dog through so much pain & torment just for one's own entertainment or monetary gain... is beyond sick! Not only that, but you KNOW practically none of these dogs get proper medical care for their injuries, or are treated well or like a companion at all in their entire life. There's an awesome movie that I saw about the life of a fighting dog, on HBO or something... I have to look it up. I see it as no different than walking up to a dog and beating it to death yourself for "fun".

There was a very interesting arguement, which Pitties came into, on a Betta fish forum (yeah... I breed Bettas). Some people were all for Betta fighting in the right environment (with plakats aka short-finned fighting Bettas, in the proper environment, given plenty of conditioning and rest afterwards, etc) & some were against it but many were for it. Personally, I STILL see Betta fighting as sick, because it is for entertainment! The arguement was that fighting is natural for Bettas... which is completely false. 1) Betta Splendens have been bred for centuries to BE aggressive... originally, and with other variations of Bettas, they are not nearly as aggro. 2) Placing 2 male Bettas in an enclosed container (usually very small!) is in no way natural. In the wild, with miles of rice paddies around them, the 2 might have a scuffle for territory, but there's tons of room to retreat. 3) It is inhumane to set up & take pleasure out of watching any innocent animal bring pain to another.

I completely agree..whether it's a dog or betta or anything else, it's completely sick and inhumane. I don't know who could find pleasure out of watching innocent animals rip eachother up and get injured.

I have said this...

You have a choice the dogs DO not.
And they do have cheap penile englargments available for "men COUGH COUGH like you.

I have dont kick boxing, wrestling, to name some insane things.
I like the pump feeling but I make a choice to put my life on the line back then..... Dogs are made into weapons by the worse creature on earth MAN.

I think the fact that its a felony almost everywhere should be enough. When dogfighters' yards get raided, good dogs are taken and killed by the authorities. Entire bloodlines get wiped out in the blink of an eye. When a bust is on the news, it never reflects well upon the dogs or the breed. There is just too much pressure and scrutiny on dogfighting right now to justify doing it. It makes me nervous just having some of the "paraphernalia."
