And of course you always point a loaded gun in the safest direction. Not at anything living that you don't want dead and never at the floor if you're upstairs etc.
Yup. My dad stressed not shooting stuff in the air, too, by throwing a baseball in the air, underhand, so it landed on my head from a height of about 6 inches (so basically threw it at my head lol. Thanks pops). Then asked if it'd have hurt more had it been from a higher height and when I agreed he asked how much I thought a bullet coming down would hurt. I had no concept of terminal velocity at the time (not that it matters) so it made a large impression on me.

Always keep you gun pointed in a safe direction and always assume the safety will fail. Keep those in mind and you'll never have a serious accident.
Yeah, that is rule no. 1. Learned that even before Mom got the revolver . . . My Dad shot himself in the hand when I was about 8 with a gun he thought was unloaded. This was not actually half as dumb as it sounds, if you know the full sequence of events that lead up to it . . . but that's the point: you don't have to be really dumb to have an accident with a gun, you just have to forget, for a split second, that THE GUN IS ALWAYS LOADED.

Maybe that was why I wasn't exactly thrilled when Mom handed me the revolver . . . I had no desire what so ever to assume responsibility for it. Still don't, which is the main reason I don't own a gun.

Does that involve checking the woods behind your house, if you have them? Does anyone walk into the forest and check if there are people in there. Even if you can aim something can always go wrong. I'm asking, because living in the US we had people in our neighbourhood who would shoot their gun (towards the woods) in their back yard and hit targets, because "it was fun". As kids - and im sure we werent the only ones - we would roam are the woods and stuff. Our parents told us to ALWAYS STAY AWAY from that because they shot their guns and didnt check to see if there were people in the woods. Of course as kids we never stayed away (there was a pretty darn cool tree) until they actually started shooting while we were back behind their property  Scared the living daylights out of us and we never went back there :( Stupid neighbours totally ruined everything. (I even left my sweater back there and was to scared to go back)
After the moms of the neighbourhood went over there and asked them to please check out the closer woods of their house because kids play back there and were almost shot at today. They just told the moms no, they would not - the kids should suck it up and not play out there. (its not their property) And that they had every right go shooting around their yard in any way they wanted. :yikes::yikes: The police wouldnt do anything either.
Thats not normal though, right? I mean if people go out and shoot at targets they check whats going on behind their targets?

IME yes. Actually in IME when you go "shooting" (not hunting, where one would expect to fire only a few carefully aimed shots) there is some sort of stop behind what you're shooting... like a hillside, or from inside a quarry, or you shoot downward so the bullet will definitely go into the earth. But they don't just shoot willy-nilly into the woods (and in your case it sounds like "populated" woods? That's just flat out negligent) and hope that no one is there.

Our neighbourhood was inside the woods, we all had wetlands just behind the property. There were tones of kids in the neighbourhood (new development) and we all ran around in the woods together cause it was fun. They never checked to see if anyone was playing and weren't very good shooters. They never stopped either, but they scared us so much we never went back there again.

Gun control=use both hands.

Ive been known to sight in my red dot before river trips by shooting into the hill on my back acre. If someone is between my house and my hill they are trespassing.

That is not remotely acceptable.

A few people quoted my post, and I don't feel like re-quoting all of them, but I agree with what everyone said, and I'll clarify with this:

Then maybe the owner of said gun shouldnt have left it were someone can easily get to it, or taught thier kids not to handle guns, or how to do it safely.
Exactly. Because a majority of people are idiots unfortunately. Like I said, I don't think guns should be banned by any means, I just don't think they should be as easy to get. And like you and several others have said, people who do have guns need to be responsible for teaching anyone who could possibly get a hold of said gun, to either not touch it - ever, or how to safely handle it.

Hitler falls under Religion and Politics. And maybe guns too, since he did off himself (which is another religious topic).

We need bullet control! If that bullet costs $3000 you WILL think twice before pulling that **** trigger!!

- Chris Rock

:rofl1:
just thought it was funny and wanted to share! lol
I wonder how that would raise the price of his security team. I have enough components in my basement to load over 20K rounds of ammunition, please pass that law! That comment was written by someone who wants to appeal to the scared people and like most anti gun propaganda it was thought up by someone who has no knowledge of guns or grasp of logic on the matter. I usually like Chris Rock and this is about the only thing I have heard him say that I think was stupid.

Yep, and it’s that kind of stuff that leads people to think that there is reason behind their stupid choices. Pretend you didn't know that making a quote like this wasn't going to get the remark I made. Some are sick of gay jokes, some are sick of the N word and some of us are sick of the persecution of gun owners. I am all for him having the right to spew such stupidity, but I have the right to booo it. If you post something of a controversial nature expect it to **** someone off, post it by all means, but don't be shocked at the replies.
