I am posting because I'm in desperate need of some Chaz help.

Zeus and Voodoo got into a big fight on Sunday, over an old tortilla. Both dogs were taken to the emergency vet, and required numerous stitches and even a few drains.

But yesterday, Voodoo attacked Zeus in the bathroom. It was completely unprovoked. Voodoo laid open Zeus' elbow and slashed an artery. There was blood spraying everywhere--on the walls, cabinets, and in pools on the floor. Zeus was screaming. We rushed Zeus back to the emergency vet, where he had to stay overnight. Zeus will be ok, but we'll have to wait and see how well his leg heals.

I don't know what happened to make Voodoo suddenly become aggressive to Zeus. He still has the absolute sweetest and happy-go-lucky temperament towards people.

We've decided that Voodoo has to find a new home or foster family today, before we take Zeus home. In our small townhome, I don't think that seperating the boys will be enough to insure Zeus' safety: he's lost so much blood and been through so much in two days, I think one more attack would kill him.

The local foster agencies have been no help. They don't take anything that even looks remotely like a pit bull. I've even tried contacting foster agencies in other cities with no luck. Finding homes has been coming up short, too.

Hubby and I have made a heartbreaking decision. If we can't find a place for Voodoo today, we will take him to the vet and have him euthanized. We don't want Voodoo to go to anyone who doesn't know what to expect and is capable of handling our dear little troublemaker, so the local shelter is out of the question. There are a few "no kill" shelters here, but they're horrible. Dogs penned in crates 20 hours a day, and living that way for years until they die or are adopted. I can't put Voodoo through that.

If Chazzers have any ideas or suggestions, I'm open to them. I'm in West Texas, if anyone knows of rescues nearby.

This is so hard for us. I love my little chaos demon so much. But I don't know what else to do.

what about taking him to one of those non kill shelters. but visiting him very often and making sure he isn't put through that.
i feel bad for what has happened. maybe see a dog behaviourist or even a dog communicator to see if you can rectify the problem. but i see your point.
keep trying. voodoo seems like a good dog that might just have issues with zeus being the boss. or maybe its psycological. maybe there is a medical reason.

Howdy Gempress!!! Da*n sorry to read about the tumult between your dogs. My only suggestion would be to contact various pit bull organizations throughout our state for possible adoption options. Our heart goes out to you, your family, and your dogs during this troubled time. Good Luck Gempress!!!

OMG! How horrible! I don't know what to say...except I'm so terribly sorry you are going through this. There has just got to be a solution that will work out best for everyone. I totally understand your desire to protect Zeus--perhaps you can keep them separated or take Voodoo to kennel for a little while until an appropriate home can be found. Good luck with everything and my heart goes out to you.

Please, Before Posting

So far everyone has been compassionate, and I am very grateful for this, and expected no less, really, from most of the Chaz members.

I do want, however, to say that given the circumstances and knowing how so many of us are feeling, this isn't going to be allowed to turn into any sort of brawl. Even the most well-meant comments can be incredibly hurtful, so please, think and re-read before you hit that post bar.

Thanks.

I can only imagine how difficult of a decision this must be and how your heart must be ripping apart right now between the love you have for both dogs! I'm so sorry! My thoughts are with you in this difficult time.

Gem I thought you had him handled and man am I sorry. I have posted here serveral times warning people about Catahoulas. They are the largest of the cattle dog breeds and the most aggressive . I know I may be flamed here and that is fine however having had the same experience with mine 20 years ago I have to say this is a breed of dog recommended to be an only dog and as I have said never around young children. They do not like young children. . Ours did the same thing after a year of age and took it further she tried to do that to my 3 year old grandson as well. We had two and they were both put down. I believe I had posted that I was very worried about this breed getting popular here. Anyway as I say they are wonderful herders but they really are better not with other dogs or children.
I often wondered how many really understood how and why the catahoula was bred, Also they are not good if they are not working.
Gem I am so sorry that your family has had to experience this the way I learned. The breeder never told me until after the fact and assumed that I knew these facts.
Man does my heart go out to you. I know the pain you are in and yet the anger you feel today too. I loved my catahoulas but I did put them down because of the fact they went after my grandson and I could not let it happen to some one elses child. I am afraid that because they are becoming popular you will see this more and more. I feel so bad for Voodoo who is just being a catahoula and for Zues who did nothing wrong. I am happy you were able to save Zues but as sad as this may pain you Gem he most likely will do this again and it could be a small child. I ignored the fact that my catahoula attacked a great pyreneese and thought it was an oops but then she went after my grandson, I then found out the truth on the breed and did have them PTS. I send to you a big hug and warm thoughts for any choice you have to make today. My heart aches for you. I have walked in your shoes and it isn't a pleasant walk. Just know one thing Gem it is not something you did. When I have read your last posts on his chewing the bathroom walls I was a bit worried that this was coming but thought you had it handles I am sorry I had not spoken of this with you. Again like the breeder I got the dogs from I too thought you knew.
And for those of you who want one please do your homework. They are bred for aggression. Gem I will stand behind you and have my hand on your shoulder what ever you do today. You and I both had to learn something the hard way and it is a very sad and painful way to. Im here for you if you feel like talking just a pm away. Again my heart just aches for you and your hubby. Gem I hurt so badly for you. I wish I had Chaz when this happened to me.

Oh Gem, I am so sorry this has happened! I can feel your pain in your post! Whatever you decide to do, I know it will be a well considered decision taking the safety of Zeus and Voodoo into consideration. The options you discuss are exactly the ones I would be thinking of. I hope that the outcome is what you hope for, that is, hopefully Voodoo can be rehomed. If not, I know for sure that it won't be because of lack of trying on your part. Take heart. These things do happen, but they are always traumatic. My thoughts are with you.

Gemp, you know I'm here. And we've been trying to come up with ideas in the mod forum. I hope that Catahoula rescue has some help to offer. Give Zeus and Voodoo an extra hug from me. I'm just so sorry this is happening.

Behind you all the way....

Gem, you know how I feel and that I'm behind you and beside you 100%. I know how hard you've tried to make this work and if anyone could have kept these two boys together, it would have been you and your husband. It's just not possible for them to live peacefully no matter how you tried.

Again, I wish I were closer so that I could help you in whatever way....finding Voodoo an only dog home or just being there for whatever must come.
I'm so very sorry, I know how you love your boys....(((((((hugs)))))))
