Gem, I sent an e-mail on your behalf to CatahoulaRescue.com

Hi There.
I apart of a huge dog forum, and I am writing today about a dog named VooDoo. VooDoo is a Catahoula and is in desperate need of finding a home. He is at risk of being put to sleep if we cannot re-home him VERY soon.

Here is the story from his owner.
Zeus and Voodoo got into a big fight on Sunday, over an old tortilla. Both dogs were taken to the emergency vet, and required numerous stitches and even a few drains.

But yesterday, Voodoo attacked Zeus in the bathroom. It was completely unprovoked. Voodoo laid open Zeus' elbow and slashed an artery. There was blood spraying everywhere--on the walls, cabinets, and in pools on the floor. Zeus was screaming. We rushed Zeus back to the emergency vet, where he had to stay overnight. Zeus will be ok, but we'll have to wait and see how well his leg heals.

I don't know what happened to make Voodoo suddenly become aggressive to Zeus. He still has the absolute sweetest and happy-go-lucky temperament towards people.

We've decided that Voodoo has to find a new home or foster family today, before we take Zeus home. In our small townhome, I don't think that seperating the boys will be enough to insure Zeus' safety: he's lost so much blood and been through so much in two days, I think one more attack would kill him.

The local foster agencies have been no help. They don't take anything that even looks remotely like a pit bull. I've even tried contacting foster agencies in other cities with no luck. Finding homes has been coming up short, too.

Hubby and I have made a heartbreaking decision. If we can't find a place for Voodoo today, we will take him to the vet and have him euthanized. We don't want Voodoo to go to anyone who doesn't know what to expect and is capable of handling our dear little troublemaker, so the local shelter is out of the question. There are a few "no kill" shelters here, but they're horrible. Dogs penned in crates 20 hours a day, and living that way for years until they die or are adopted. I can't put Voodoo through that.
If you could help my friend, it would greatly be appreciated. We don’t want to see VooDoo put to sleep, as we all know he has great potential and is a very loving soul. If you could provide us with some information about your rescue, and what we could do to get VooDoo rehomed, we would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

I don't even know what to say except we love you and know that this is not an easy situation for you. Both Zeus and Voodoo are Chaz dogs and it breaks my heart to hear of Zeus suffering like that. I'm so glad he's going to be ok. You're doing the right thing keeping him safe from voodoo. At the same time I hope one of the rescues works out. If not, I'm here for you and 100% behind you. I wish I could help. Let us know if there's anything we can do.

Thanks, AC. I sent them an email too. Maybe with all of us working together, we can find a place for Voodoo.

I just sent Gemp the phone number to Lone Star.

If I would have had more info, I would have called them myself, so instead I gave the number to Gemp so she can call herself.

ETA: I can't donate, but I'll try to help re-home him as good as I can. Being so far from Gemp, it is a little tough, but we can do it!!

*blushes*

Nah-- thank YOU. You guys are the one's that made me grow so compassionate about dogs.

To tell you the truth, this is my first time ever helping someone... but, being one that has talked with Gemp more than a few times, and loving every one of her stories, I felt that Gemp needed someone to help her out.

I would love to see VooDoo go to a great home, and I'll try my hardest to help him find one.

Wow. Thank you so much, everyone. The support I'm getting here is just overwhelming. I'm still in tears right now, but now it's gratitude.

I have an idea I'm going to run by hubby. If we can section off part of our *admittedly* small yard, and put Voodoo on a tie-out cable as well (we already have a dog house), perhaps we can keep him for a few days longer. It's not the ideal situation for him, but maybe it would buy us some time to find him a new home.

But I'm not sure how well it would work. Like I said, I want to take every step to insure Zeus' safety.
