Trying not to freak out, here... I am usually the most calm, stable person when something happens to a human or a pet, but not Maddie  Not right now, not lately.

She's having a pretty bad allergic reaction :(

to what we think is a spider bite. For some reason, we've had a big influx of spiders in our backyard to the point they've started to come in the house a little bit, I actually got bit yesterday.
We were outside training and stuff, and she was snuffling in the leaves a lot, and tried to go under the deck (but didn't). But, anyways, we came in from outside and she was scratching a lot, but she quit when I told her to, and then she laid next to me on the couch. My phone rang, I answered it, and she started whining to get my attention. I petted her, and she stoped but then started back up, I promptly got of the phone and checked her over (Maddie never whines) and observed her face/head swelling :( It's (her) left side of her face, under her eye and on her muzzle, and the very top of her head by the top of her ear (almost looks like a horn... lol)
the suddenness scared the crap out of me!

I put a call in to the vet, and thank goodness they were still there! But, they're closed - so they told me what to give her, and to keep a close eye on her. If she gets any worse, I'll have to take her in to the Emergency Vet (which is not a vet I like at all) :( But, the swelling has stopped and stayed where it's at, and she's starting to get drowsy from the benadryl.

Vibes that it doesn't get any worse, and that starts to go down?!?? She wants to go lay under the table but I am making her stay by me, so she's not a super happy camper right now :( Poor baby!

All I could think of was a similar sounding post about Izzie the Pug  My heart is in my throat
I think we caught it just in time before it got too bad *fingers crossed*

Whew... the benadryl seems to be doing the trick... the side of her face has went down, she still has a big lump on the top of her head, though... She's drowsy. I won't be sleeping well tonight, just in case. And I'll probably be repeating the dosages as suggested

I am not a spider expert, but it seems we have a ton of 'grass spiders' around here... or at least that's what everyone calls  I googled them, and I do see the webs on the grass around here now that they mention it, and the one article I read said the males sometimes come in the house.
I've never seen anything venomous in the area, thank goodness. *shudders*

Going to check for gray hairs now...

THat really sounds more like a sting than a spider bite. THey usually don't swell up quite like that, and if they are poisonous they tend to be hard and hurt like hell.
I am so sorry poor Maddie has had enough with itchies and owies. Vibes for the swelling to keep going down.

Could very well be, she's certainly had a bad reaction to a bee sting before :( Much, much worse than this.
I didn't see any bees outside, its been very cold and rainy, but that doesn't mean they weren't any!

I seriously LOLed at the bolded :p

Glad she is feeling better! Tell my niece to stop getting herself into trouble! Can't be much fun :( (Also, I am betting Bailey told her to do it...)
