Oh no Jessie. I am so sorry this happened. Poor little Emma. I know how much you love her and how worrying this has to be. I'd be freaking out too. But vets don't usually act optimistic if there's much question at all. That sounds very hopeful. Did the vet say anything about long term damage? I don't know why...if the swelling goes down and she heals up, I would think she'll be okay. Do they call and give you updates as the day progresses? I'm sending major, major vibes and lots of (((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))

ETA: You know....3 lbs is indeed very small, but still within the standard. And I don't think 5 or 6 lbs would make much difference, if any if a larger dog like that bit. Don't beat yourself up about getting a tiny Chi. They're all tiny. I call Chulita a moose because she's about 6 lbs but really she isn't. She'd still be injured very badly if a bigger dog bit at her, most likely. Freak things happen sometimes. Again...sending lots of vibes for you and Emma.

Thanks so much, everyone.

No word yet. I just woke up but I'm going to try to go back to sleep. Ian said he'll wake me up when he hears something. I guess no news is good news.

Vet started to discus long term damage. He said her head may always look funny (it's huge- really really swollen) and could be prone to swelling with the smallest head injury ( ie lightly hitting it on the wall or something). I don't care what her head looks like, or any long term damage.

I just want her home with us.

It was such a stupid accident.

We were supposed to be swimming with manatees this morning... I cancelled last night because I have bronchitis. If we went this never would've happened.

Ugh I keep beating myself up over it. I need to go back to sleep.

Please keep the vibes/prayers/thoughts coming. They mean so much.

And loads of <<<<<<<<<<<<<VIBES>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> for Emma.

Go get some sleep. Accidents happen, and it's great that the vet is optimistic, and don't worry about long term until it's more clear what the long term is.

Emma was very alert when we left... I mean, she kissed me goodbye. That is why the vet is optimistic. She's conscious, alert, etc.

It's the same vet who took care of her when she spent the night at the er vet before. He had her hooked up to an iv quick. I kept asking him if he thought she was going to die, and he said no. I really hope she pulls through.

This is not your fault, Jessie. Things like this happen. You can't beat yourself up over it.

If the vet was optimistic then I am too.

That the vet is likely to let her go home is a very good sign. I've seen several dogs with head injuries make full recoveries (with no lasting issues, nor being prone to swelling) so I wouldn't worry too much about that this early on.

That she was already alert is a very good sign and seems to point to more tissue damage than severe brain trauma.

I hope Emma gets to come home to you this evening.

And remember, accidents happen to everyone.

My biggest worry is her open molera. He seemed to get her right on top of it. So I'm hoping it's not gig to turn into hydrocephilis or anything.

I just hope she lives. I don't care about the longterm effects.

Breathe. Breathe. ((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))

Accidents happen. We all get mad at ourselves over them. Be angry at yourself. But BUT, don't stay in that place. There is a time and place to be angry with yourself. Then there is a time and place to move on, focus on the positive - Emma is going to make it, the vet seems very optimistic about her injury.

Oh no! I've been out all day so I'm only seeing this now! I'm glad to hear she was at least alert when you left her, I hope that's as good a sign as it sounds!!

I hope the vet gets back to you soon with some positive news!
