The Venting Thread

Would it just destroy any future chance of me getting a job if I quit my current job after one day?

I got a job at the humane society and I can't handle this. I knew it was a no-kill shelter, I used to volunteer there so I thought I could deal with it, but there is a big difference volunteering on the adoption floor and working in the back with the new intakes.

There is a puppy who is extremely fun and playful and just what many "dog people" are looking for, and they are talking about killing him because he is "too high energy" and "unadoptable". The back stray holding room, which is the room they have me working in, is filled with litters upon litters of young puppies, and the guy who works in that room with me was telling me most of them would be going to E (the euthanasia room) after their stray hold was up because they're get in 10 litters of puppies a day and they have no room.

So many of these sweet, adorable, fun, playful, tail-wagging puppies I am working with are probably going to be dead when I go back in on Sunday and oh my god I can't handle this.

What field are you wanting to work in?

I have been in that type of situation before and it is absolutely awful. I knew every pit bull we got in was not going to make it past the hold. Even the adorable, highly adoptable puppies that had a vaguely pit looking momma (puppies looked like pointers).

Things like this make me so sad.

Personally, I would not even list that job on my resume. I would quit. The emotional strain is not worth it. If a future employer asks, tell them what you just wrote here. I can't imagine you being judged for it (unless you were trying to get the exact same job at another shelter).
 
Move to a state where "personal responsibility" includes not saddling other people with killing dozens of your puppies?

Maybe someone needs to know a no-kill shelter is euthanizing litters of puppies?? That's awful :(.
 
I had a dream I was at a shelter and a woman was adopting Nina and I asked her if I could say hi to Nina but Nina just looked at me and didn't remember me at all.

I need to catch the bus to be work in three minutes but I can't stop crying. I miss her so much and I just can't really live without a dog. I feel like I've failed as an owner and trainer. I feel like I lost all the part of me that had a passion for animals when I put it into her and then gave her up. Even working at the zoo just feels like a chore now and I can't look a dog in the face.

This literally sucks so much. Here in Vancouver, Canada, we have almost no dogs that are available for adoption. The local SPCA has around 10 dogs total and around 100 applications almost at all times for the incoming dogs. I don't know many shelters either although we do have a few breed specific rescues.

I've literally tried so many times to go to the SPCA and find a dog to adopt but not only are there no dogs that fit what I want, basically there are no dogs at all because all the dogs that are not on hold have applications or are already going to new homes.

I wish there was some way to get all these dogs to BC, Canada. I know quite a few friends that have had the same experience.

It's so sad that in so many parts of the US, puppies/sport prospects are being euthanized when here there aren't enough adoptable dogs when many people are open to the idea.
 
I just cannot like my father in law. He's ignorant, immature, tempermental, and sososososo negative all the time!!! He's the opposite of my dad, who is the most amazing man on the planet (well, he's tied for first with my SO).

And I have to spend this entire weekend with him...and I'm dreading it.
 
We're going on vacation tomorrow and we are flying. I am terrified. I've flown many, many times before. It's been a progression of anxiety/irrational fear over the years...and I cried myself to sleep last night. Everyone thinks I'm crazy. Slight panic attack about it today. I am starting to feel like it's crazy.

I would be fine if DH was a pilot and flying us. Or my BIL. Or any family member. I think it's worse now because everything I ever dreamed of wanting or having....I have and I don't want anything to jeopardize it. Addie is going to her first sleep over with my parents and I am worried how that will go.

Ugh. Can someone talk sense into me please?
 
I moved down to Guelph with the understanding we'd stay in the current apartment for a couple months, while finding a new place to live and then move again.

Went looking at apartments yesterday. Found 5 online that were in our price range, listed as available, and in the city we want. Drive around to narrow down choices, start calling around to set up appointments to see the apartments, choose one and start the paperwork to move.

None of the 5 are actually available. We are going to see a place tomorrow (2 separate apartments, one building), and then I guess hope we like it enough to go with it. We "need" to be out of here by August 1st, and I worry we won't find a place by then.

Moving is stressful.

Am I a hypocrite for believing that of other people, but not me?
 
I just need somewhere to sort of vent, because I'm just the type of person who feels better after writing it all out.

Basically, I'm not the greatest friend when it comes to distributing my time between my friends and my boyfriend. My boyfriend and I get four months a year together so naturally I want to spend a lot of time with him. But what I didn't realize is that my friends were getting mad and upset over it, until today when one of my friends sent me a relatively long, harshly worded text about how I'm "burning the few bridges" I have left. Which honestly hit me hard because I didn't think I was that horrible... I'm always there for my friends and do make an effort to see them when I'm not working or spending time with my boyfriend. So apparently I just need to make a bigger effort which I'm going to try to do.

no, your friends need to back the hell off and give you that piddly 4 months with your SO, and realize THEY get you for the other 8 months, so they need to get their heads out of their asses and stop being selfish.

^ that's actually what I was thinking. Haha

Unless my friend(s) is having a crisis that is a Must Talk Now or I Wil Fall Apart type deal, my time with my SO comes first. I'm pretty sure all of my friends are aware that when Michael gets back I'll be off the grid for a few days...I'm going to get obscene comments and suggestions from them, but they won't take offense or be upset.

My friends are also amazing and people I consider family. So there's that.

I was sharing the messages with my other friend group and they 100% agreed with what you both are saying. After some thought, I don't think I'll be talking to them until they come to me first with an apology... because I really did not deserve to be talked to like that, especially by friends. It just sucks in the sense that these two friends are the only ones who live in the area minus one who is busy a lot. But I'm planning a trip the weekend after this one to visit two of my friends at their new place, so that'll be super nice.

It's just nice to hear that I'm not being unreasonable for wanting to spend all this time with him. They referred to me as "overly dependent" and that it "sucks for me"... which I've never thought of it that way because he's my favourite person to spend time with but I'm also able to go do my own thing when he is having time with his friends. I think maybe their judgement comes from the fact that neither of them have had an actual relationship, let alone a long distance one... but there really wasn't an excuse to act the way they did.

Can't you just get like, a cat spray bottle and spray her each time she does that?

I mean, less harmful than elbowing her in the nose or something.
 
Wanting to spend time with your SO is not being "overly dependent". My husband is my best friend. I ENJOY spending time with him. I've been living life just fine without him these past 6.5 months, but you bet I'm going to be beside myself to see him again and be able to spend time with him again. And yes, I'm going to put him above my other friends when he first comes home because the time I have with him is limited and their time is not. And my friends understand that, and they'd do the exact same thing in my place.
