The Official "What are you reading" Thread

I just grabbed "Q-Squared" from the library. It's a Star Trek:TNG novel by Peter David. He also wrote "Imzadi" which I loved.

Personally I love the series. Novik isn't the best author around (she has some writing issues) but her concept is awesome. I bought His Majesty's Dragon as a side thought because I thought the cover looked cool and went in knowing nothing about what the story was supposed to be. I thought it was just going to be a medieval book with a king getting a dragon. Was pleasantly surprised!

Nolu: Neuromancer is a bit hard to explain. Dude is a hacker (not in the modern day sense though. He literally gets immersed in his programs and doesn't want to leave at times) who had his nervous system attacked. Some people come and free him with a radical surgery to neutralize the mycotoxins and thus he owes them a debt. It's a pretty standard story line (for the most part...) but it's the world and characters that Gibson draws out for you that sucked me in.

Look into it. A lot of people acclaim it as the 'greatest sci-fi book ever written' and such bits. I don't know that it's the greatest but it's pretty **** good.

I will, thanks!

And as for Naomi Novik's books... it was the covers that got me sucked in, too. They are fantastic. I need to read the rest of them - I only have the first three.

Right now I am reading For the Love of a Dog and even though I don't remember reading it before I have the strangest sense of deja vu throughout. I really want to dig up the Harry Potter book that comes after the Goblet of Fire and read it, though.

One Tuesday Morning by Karen Kingsbury It's about 9/11 -highly recommended!

And, I know, I'm late :p Marley and Me

Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels

When i first read the book jacket i thought eehhh yet another depressing story, i mean how many of those can you read. Night just about polished me off. But i gave this one a chance and am very glad i did. Very well written. The word painted images are stunning.

"The hidden life of dogs" Elizabeth Marshall Thomas

not sure if I like where its heading though...

The God of Animals by Aryn Kyle and it's wonderful.

I just finished The Horse God Built. It was supposed to be about Secretariat, and it still is in some ways, but it really touches on his groom and the impact his groom had on the horse he turned out to be. I liked it.

Now I've started on my book about all the Triple Crown Winners. It's got amazing photos AND a DVD with all the races! How freaking cool is that?!

Finished Q-Squared over night. It was pretty good. I liked that it tied bits of both the original ST series, the TNG series and kind of made it his own.

Lord of the Flies... can't get past the 12th page. >_< Argh, stupid books and their boring beginnings.

Light on Snow by Anita Shreve. (The Pilot's Wife) It's the nicest read I've had in a long time.

I'm reading Keeping Faith by Jodi Picoult

I REALLY love her books!! I've also recently read 'My Sister's Keeper' by her and its also a really good read. Once I start, I don't want to stop!

I'm starting "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy today :)

and then I will be reading "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" by Tom Wolfe

Ohhhh, I love Cormac McCarthy's books!
I've read them all but The Road...it's always checked out at the library :(

I need to pick up at least a couple of his books . . . his brother is taking this session of the workshop :D

I didn't like The Road either... I read it on my flight home from Mexico, and couldn't get into it. I didn't like the writing style.

Anyway, I'm in the middle of reading Eclipse right now... it's the third book in the Twilight series.

The Other Boleyn Girl. I'm loving it and I'm definitely going to be picking up more Phillipa Gregory books in the future.

Next on my list is Mirror Mirror by Gregory Maguire.
