I have three. The only one that really really hurt was the one on my lower stomach... it's low enough that I have to pull my pants down a little in order to show anyone so it's pretty much hidden all the time.

I have one on my shoulder blade that wasn't too bad at all and I have one on my wrist that hurt, but nothing unbearable. I actually just had a touch up done on my wrist tattoo this past Saturday since the artist told me he would do any touchups for free and it needed a small part re-done.

Is it really worth it folks ??? The cost and the pain ??
Mine didn't hurt. I have a high threshold for pain.

As far as being worth it...here's my cheesy story..

About 9 years ago, I went through a horrible year. My aunt, who was one of the most important people in my life, passed away after a horribly long and brutal bout of sickness. She also didn't simply just pass away, she lapsed into a coma first, and we, as her family, had to make that horrible decision of whether she should be kept alive on machines, or to be taken off the machines and let nature take it's course.

Not only that, but that was the year I was involved with the psycho that brutalized me emotionally as well as physically.

It was also the summer I was diagnosed with Bipolar, and took a whopping overdose and spent four days in a coma on life support.

The tattoo I got that summer is the symbol for strength. I got it because I made it through hell and back that summer, and I wanted a reminder that no matter how bad things get in the future, I know I can make it.

Now when things get crappy, or I think they're crappy, I look at that tattoo, remember that horrible year, and remember I made it through it.

So that's why they're worth it to me. They're not just pictures or symbols, they're life experience. :)

That made me smile. Its so amazing how people get broken down and then one day they realize that they can pick themselves up and kept going.
Good for you Shadow! :)

Laurelin , if you ever do one it has to be a butterfly ! I wish that there was a symbol for a Golden !
The one thing about butterflies though is they're so common. I'll have to figure out a way to make it special.

But yes, definitely a butterfly for so many a reason.

It'll be a long time though before I have the money to do it.

I usually don't bleed alot unless its a deep cut. lol

I don't know if anyone can tell, but does anyone know how it'll take for that tattoo do? Estimate based on the size it is in this thread, if you have to.
I'm just curious
.

depends on the artist but i'd say an hour TOPS. Probably more like 20min.

also find som'one that charges by the piece not by the hour...not everyone is like it, but i've heard of "by the hour" types really ripping off new people.

Well I'm looking at 2 different artist.
One is a person that did my best friends belly button piercing and she said that the place was SUPER clean, all of their needles, etc were really clean, the people where very cool, and they didn't charge an arm and a leg to do it.
The other person is someone who did my aunt's tattoo and she said the same thing about them.
But the first artist is about 2 hours closer to me.

Dak! I want to come with you. Maybe I'll get some stuff added to my wrist while we're there. :D

Can't really ask him right now since he's asleep, but I'm pretty sure Brian said the one on his ribs hurt the most.

I am gonna need someone to come cause I will need a support system. lol
I hate needles, therefore I might possibly cry. But I seriously want this tattoo. :D That is determination (sp?).

What do you have on your wrist now?

That will be a very beautiful tattoo. You might want to look into a darker color though, that pink will not show very well and will fade much more quickly than a darker pink or red. As for length of time that shouldn't take to long. The more color and detail the longer it takes. Shading takes a bit of time as well if it is to be done right. As for pain, I seem to tolerate pain quite well, it is definitely personal as previously mentioned.

I have five tatts, one on my chest, around my belly button, lower back, neck, and whole upper and mid back. Honestly the one on my belly button and the work around my lower neck/shoulder areas hurt the worst.

Here's my belly one, after three pregnancy's it still looks pretty darn good!

This one shows my lower back butterfly and my neck tattoo and the second session on my back piece. I had the flower on my neck first so we incorporated it into my back piece which is in memory of my best friend who passed in 2005. Please excuse the horrid tan lines, I can't believe I am even posting this pic:yikes:

That one on my back took three sessions at about 3 hours each. The one on my lower spine took about 20 minutes, the one on my belly button 45 minutes max.

That's where brainstorming with an artist can help you. My tattoo guy (who is no longer tatting due to vertigo...he's up there in years) has amazing ideas and really listens to people. He would work with you drawing something until you were pleased and he wasn't one that required a deposit to do so.

time wise id say 1/2-1hour tops for that peice and i would go with a deeper shade of pink (baby pink unless your super super super pale doesnt show all too well and fades very quickly)

its very pretty and i definatly like it with the color...

currently i have 4, the LEAST painfull is my fox skull xbones on my upper thigh, i pretty much slept through it...
the next is my winged fox with sits lowerback/upper but cheek off to one side of the spine, itwas relitivly unpainfull but had a few twingy spots.
the next is on my shoulder blade area and quite large, that one hurt a little more, particularly in the areas closest to my side/under arm and spine.
the most painfull for me was one that goes across my upper back/neck, even that one wasnt that painfull but a couple of the stars realy twinged particulalry the ones on either side of the neck where the tendons are.

as a general rule of thumb...fleshy EXPOSED areas hurt the least (areas that get the sun/weather) this includes tops of the arm and calves...
unexposed fleshy areas are probably the next degree...
generally tender/sensitive flesh (inner thigh, side of neck ect) will hurt a little more
areas close to bone (spine, ankle, wrist) hurt more...the top of the foot and the rib cage are generally considered the most painfull of the areas to be tatted!
if your ticklish, DO NOT get your first few tattoos in those spots. ticklish means a higher consentration or nerves close to the surface of your skin...those spots will definatly twinge and can be down right painfull!

degree of pain is 100% personal, i have my neck tat and it only realy hurt in a few spots, a friend got a similar sized and positioned tat and was in agony!

i would also suggest taking your tat to multiple shops, TALK to the artists, brina storm and choose the artist and show YOU feel most comfortable with.
thus far ive used the same shop for all of mine...but i whent to visit a friends faved artist for my last one and while her art was very nice i just didnt feel as comofrtable there...whent back to my usual guy and it just felt right!

dont rush it...take your time to find the right artist in the right show who WANTS to work with you...
an artist who sees your peice and rills his eyes like hes bored is not a guy you nessicarily want to work with.

personally i like to spend alot of time checking portfolios, talking with the artist ect...
if all i see in a folio is page upon page of photos of flash peices done ill generally pass...i want to see lots of origional works, peices that showcase their particular talents and skills in each areas...

and a huge word of warning...
tats can be addicitve...

ive got more planned including more stars and maple leaves, a crestie with the cresteds paw prints, a little demon type beasty that i designed, and some ankle tats that will be phrases.
more pop into mind every day but i wean them down with a specific thought pattern, i think about it...if i still like the thought after 6 months i draw it out and put it somewhere i will see every day...if i still like looking at it after another 6 months i draw it on my skin with paint pens (or have an artistic friend do it)...i replenish it weekly after a shower...if i still like it after 6 months then i commit it to the "possible future tattoos" list lol.

i personally also feel that EVERY tattoo you put on your body should be something that means soemthing specifically strong to you!

Wow your tattoos look amazing!

I can't think of a darker pink/almost red color. I want it to still be girlie looking but also classy, since its for my Papa. Any color ideas to replace the light pink?

Wow thanks for all the info. :)

I have been told that they are very addictive. lol

I just need to figure out a darker pink/red color.
I don't mind pain but I have certain sensitive spots, and luckily my shoulder/shoulder blade area isn't one of them. My stomach, upper leg, foot, and neck are though.

I plan on going to more artists, but I had one place in mind that was about 30mins away from me but then I found/heard some horror stories about that place, so I refuse to go there now.
