I am getting a tattoo this summer and I have an idea.
Its a butterfly that I found a couple of days ago and I looooove it.
But I was wondering if there was anything I needed to change on it.
I don't know the first thing about tattoo art so I am asking for the tattoo peoples help. :D

Its not going to be that big. Probably half that size. I want it small.
I am *thinking* on my back, near my shoulder blade. But I am not 100% sure.
I want it to go somewhere less painful.

Fleshier areas are less painful. My first tattoo I barely felt. My second is on the ankle bone and that one seriously hurt.

If you go too small, you run the risk of having a giant black butterfly-shaped blob on your shoulder.

If you have an artist in mind already, take the picture to him/her. You'd be amazed at how great most of them are and taking the picture you like and modifying it to make a specific tattoo for you. ;)

As soon as my tax money comes in, I'm off to get mine as well! (the boys footprints from birth and their names)

Thank you! :D
I'm not getting it to small, but I don't want it as big as the picture is in this thread.
And I want pictures of your tattoo. :)

I like the ones on the shoulder blade but yes anything near bone is painful... I have one on my foot and OUCH, is all I can say.

I really like the butterfly you picked out though...cant wait to see pics.

I would advise going to see a few artists, speaking to them, and looking at their porfolios. Go with the one who shows the most skill in shading, as that is such a prominent part of the piece you want.

Ditto that. I don't have any tats but I've heard this from my inked friends more than once. Stuff like "I wish he did a better job of shading" or "I'm glad he's good at shading". All of the light to dark in that pic has a chance of becoming a blob if the artist isn't skilled at the shading part.

Good luck with it!

I ditto the thought of it turning into a blob if too small...

Perhaps less shading....

or color???

also I would add a personal touch (like a flower that has meaning) or som'thing so its not just a "this was pretty so i got it" and it has an emotion behind it

but yeah...i like it.

Thanks yall.

I was going to talk to an artist about not having so much shading and add some color. I really want some red in it somewhere.
There is a meaning behind it, its for my Papa who passed away in '99. :)

Him and I use to always catch butteflies when I was little, its just a little past time thing. :)
I am thinking about getting a RIP type thing but I am not sure how to go about doing it.

Edit- I would like to get RIP Papa under the butterfly along with a little quote, but I am going to wait to get the writing part done so I can make sure of what I want and I don't want to get so much done at once. :)
