Ares has a vet appointment for Monday. But I'm not holding my breath for it to be any use.

His aggression has slowly worsened in the few years since he had to be retired, and has suddenly quickly escalated in the last few months. We've has a few scraps between him and Nyx, but today was the worst I've ever seen him and she's becoming more committed to defending herself.

Unless the vet can find and treat a medical issue, it's time to rehome Nyx. :(:(:(

A corgi breeder I'm friends with once called Ares an "old school corgi - the type that will take it to the mat or die trying". So I don't have high hopes on the vet, but I need to try.

I cannot crate/rotate for five years. I cannot have to wash a crate every morning for five years.

Just thinking about losing Nyx hurts like hell. I so don't want to do this, but I'm not seeing any better options.

My female has gotten worse with age. She is eleven now and some days if fine with the other dogs and other days she is going for blood. I thought hormone issue with her years ago but took her in and my vet said normal corgi, deal with it:cool:

Had her out in the ball field with five other dogs couple days ago and she just did some herding and nipping at the heels, happy corgi. Yesterday she tried to eat everybody down at the river:(

We have been doing the rotation for years so I guess its just second nature now. But she used to have so much fun out running with the other dogs(just not certain females!) and now its almost like she would rather fight than play most of the time.

I was offered anti depressants for my two females when it first started between them. If its just one dog with the issue it might really help. Gizzy is so old now I feel bad considering it but I might when we go in for rabies this year.

Hopefully something will come up in the bloodwork.

It's official. This June is sucking majorly.

I hope something constructive comes up, CP. If this vet doesn't have any answers, maybe try one who does alternative treatment? It can't hurt.

Joce, thanks. I'll keep the idea of antidepressants in mind, but yea...normal corgi ...some days I wonder why on earth I love him so much.

Renee, my vet does acupuncture. The nearest fully holistic vet is an hour away. There is a local veterinary behaviorist, so if I decide to look into medication, I'll see about going there. I hate the idea of medicating what really is normal, hard core, working caliber, retired corgi, but that might be preferable over rehoming my second heart dog.

I guess so! :( :(

CP, I really hope something can be worked out for Ares (and Nyx). If rehoming is best for her (and you), I'm sure you'll find an amazing home, though I know it won't be the same for you.

I'm sorry CP that you're having to face this head on now. It's just a terrible dilema. I wish there were another way, but re-homing to a one-dog family might just be the best thing. So very sad for you.

Thanks everyone! And Carrie, Nyx doesn't need to be in a one-dog family. ;) Ares might do better in a one-dog family, but Ares isn't leaving.

And now I'm not sure what to do...Ares laid into Tyr yesterday.

For five years Ares and Tyr have been fine together. Tyr respects Ares. Tyr lies down at Ares feet. Tyr gets out of the way if Ares curls a lip. Ares knows this which is why Ares has never felt a need to attack Tyr.

Rehoming Nyx won't help with aggression toward Tyr.

I am now back to keeping him separated from both malis, but I cannot do that long term.

I'm clueless and I'm worried and I'm sad.
