Years ago, a guy at the place where I was working managed to chop off all four of his fingers on his right hand.
We were a long ways from the hospital, any hospital.
I loaded him up in my car after wrapping his arm (it had deep lacerations on it too) and his hand, wrapped up his fingers and put them in a cooler with ice.
Called the cops to let them know I was on my way and which highway.
Buried the speedometer on my car......fourways on, horn never stopped.
As I approached the city, they had intersections blocked, at the first set of lights it was blocked with cops and I had cruisers pick me up, one in front and one behind, lights and sirens going.
At the hospital, emerg was ready for him outside and took him away quickly.
At that point one of the cops looked at his watch.........eye brows up and said hmmmmmmmmm you must have been moving....I told him to check the speedometer on my car.......which was still buried and stuck.......he laughed.
They saved the fingers on that guy........and as far as I know he regained full use of his fingers. He came to work a couple of weeks later, steel sticking out the ends of the fingers with corks on them to thank me for the ride
