We are also getting another Ibizan in a few years, but that dog will be my show dog/coursing dog. I already have the lines I want that puppy out of and I already know what bitch I want a puppy out of if everything works out and if she ends up being bred.

No time soon, unfortunately. I'm wanting to finish college, before I get a dog.

So, maybe 2018, at the earliest. But, most likely, later then that.

I wish I could get a dog earlier, or right now. But, getting a dog any earlier won't be a good idea. I wouldn't be able to fully commit to the dog.

Some type of herder probably, maybe a spaniel, or retriever.

Next dog will likely be an Airedale, but not before Rocky is gone and hopefully that won't be any time soon. I don't think it would be fair to Rocky to have to deal with a puppy at 15, he has much less tolerance to boisterous puppies and dogs now that he's geriatric and he already has Baxter to deal with!

There are going to be so many amazing litters and opportunities to get a great dog from great people within 2014-2015. I have my eye on one in particular where I love both the prospective dam and sire, but it will all depend on timing. A lot of the decisions that I make next year will have a heavy impact on my future and where I'll be (physically, and I guess in terms of life, too). I could make a puppy work, but will have a lot to figure out as far as housing goes. Trent will be about 6 years old then and that'd be a good age difference between two dogs.

So, I'll be considering a 2015 puppy. But with that said, I actually think a 2016 or 2017 dog may work out better. The litter I'd like a dog from in 2016/2017 is not guaranteed to happen because it'd be pending a few things, but if I don't get a 2015 puppy I'd really, really, really try to get a puppy from that prospective litter (or one from a very similar breeding). Because if I don't get a dog by 2017, I don't think I will again for a very long time - Trent would be 8 years old by then and that's the oldest I want him if I were to bring a puppy into our lives. So, 2017 is the latest time a puppy will happen, and I already know what litter I want her from. Fingers will be crossed (for the next 2-3 years lol).

I'm willing to wait for the right puppy and right time (timing doesn't have to be perfect, just has to work out well). NextDog will be a German Shepherd, of course. Unless I randomly fall in love with a Silken or a LH Whippet and just have to have one, but if that happens, plans for a GSD will remain the same.

Our next dog will be Donny's, so ultimately it's his choice. I'm campaigning pretty hard for a golden, though. He's thinking a golden or an aussie. That won't be for 3-5 years though, we're guessing. We're hunting down leads and looking at lines at this point.

My next dog won't be for a long, long time--I'm a one dog at a time person, and she's only three. She's going to live to be forty so whatever.

None.

I really, really legitimately want to be a one dog household at some point. It's the number I do best at. So ideally I will not add another dog until both of mine pass away. And that is so far away that even pretending that I know what I want is kind of crazy. I will likely be well into my 40's at that point, which seems like forever away.

Today I say that I would love a Bedlington (terrier without being a full blown terrier, for Ryan's sake) or an OES. But I can't imagine that will be the same in even 5 years, let alone 10+, but it is nice to think about :p

So my official answer to plans is no, none.

July 10th, 2014 is my NextDog plans. :D I bring home a female standard poodle puppy that day.
She'll come home just before Pike turns 6 months old, and Nola turns 4 in October. Pike is the easiest dog I've ever had and is so laid back and easy going. I'm not worried at all. Nola adores puppies and is still high enough energy to run circles around them. The breeder has talked in depth about my situation with me and feels we'll be an excellent fit.
So soon, congrats!

Where is she coming from? We're looking strongly at poodles for nextdog.

This was me. I was still in university, had no idea where I wanted to be or where to go and what to do. I figured no way would it be fair on a dog coming into so much instability. But it worked.

There's always fostering, if the only thing stopping you is a lack of solid future plans. Temporary, free dog!

As for my future plans, none yet. The man and I have toyed with the idea of Bull Terriers, Staffies, or just another rescue that comes along. I'm interested in something smallish (25 - 35lb range) and sporty but not sure what yet.

Oh god, in a million years. There are no new dogs until this entire crew is gone, which is hopefully a million years from now. Then I really don't care what I end up with, kind of like how I ended up with these ones. Two dogs from here on out.

Boyfriend wants a GSD.

I don't know what I want. Other than Steve to live forever.

This is probably my timeline-ish too. I wouldn't want Jackson to be older than 8/9ish as well. But I guess it totally depends. I mean, right now he's almost 6, in October, and he still acts very young. So if he's still a very spry active hyper 8 year old, then it wouldn't be as big of a deal I guess.

Yeah, Maddie was 9 when I got Bailey - and Bailey was 2. Maddie hasn't slowed down at all until her recent ACL injury :( I wasn't too worry about the age difference, and then the vet said Bailey was good for her ;) lol. So, yea. While I want to be a dutiful enabling chazzer - I wouldn't worry too much about waiting either ;) lol

Summer will be 10- maybe almost 11when Nextdog comes. I'm not worried about her at all. I'm more worried about Mia and how she handles it. It's a personality thing.

I'm not looking for a new dog (probably) until my husband and I have a kid (probably). And I can make all the plans in the world, but I'm sure a kid would throw a wrench into all of them. So I don't have many plans. I have wants though. I'd love a BC, Koolie or Silken.

I tell myself that I'm not particularly interested in getting a new dog until Cohen can no longer comfortably keep up with what I want to do with her. She's not even 5 yet.

With my luck my chihuahua will live until she's 20 or some ungodly age.

I'd like to wait on NextDog until we have a kid, which should be within the next 5 years. I don't think I could handle a new baby with a puppy or even adolescent dog (if the dog was as much work as Watson has been). Even if I could handle it, I know that I'll have no time for training the new dog. So maybe new dog in 5-7 years? I feel bad that Watson will be so old by then, because he would love to have a new dog friend right now.

After that, my next dog will either be another Welshie, maybe a Watson daughter, or a herder (probably Aussie or English shepherd). I like the idea of a Welshie + herding breed combo, but if Watson is bred I don't think I could pass up a puppy (even if the timing wasn't perfect)

No idea. I really would love to have MY (that I choose myself) dog soon but it's not a good time at all. Just got out of college, don't have or know what my "real" job is going to be, live with my parents, etc. I at least need a career path and good control over my school loan repayments before I can get a dog of my own. As it is I'm starting to take over some of the responsibility of the current pets (money wise) because my parents are stretched thin so I think it's going to be a while before I can afford my own.

I'm going to get a shelter mutt (or purebred, whatever I find there) that's a young adult (under 5). No longer sure of breed type...likely a medium/large dog (though a small dog might end up being a better choice...but I want to avoid reactivity issues again), short or smooth coat. Not any sort of hound or spitz type. I generally prefer males.

Yeah, when I said that 8 is about the oldest I want Trent to be before getting Nextdog, it's because 1) as much as I dislike thinking about it, German Shepherds don't live that long and 2) like Laurelin says, it's a personality thing. Trent is not going to be happy with another dog in the house. He has very little desire to share his space with other dogs, and he's bossy and likes other dogs to do things his way. He's very much an "only child". Obviously when a second dog comes along, that kind of attitude is not going to fly, and there will definitely be some changes to his life. I don't want all that to happen as he's getting up there in age, especially when we're looking at a breed with the general lifespan of optimistically 12 years.

Our shepherds have always made it 13/14 years--I know that's not that much better than 12, but we've never lost one young--and they were all fed pedigree (blech).
