I am participating in a Team in Training marathon and we raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am currently obtaining raffle prizes from many sources (including some awesome Chazzers! :D ) and will have the tickets printed soon, but I need some input.

I will exhaust all local avenues of selling raffle tickets, but I want to sell online as well, especially because I have a wide variety of prizes to give and I want to get those donors names out there and I want to raise as much money for this charity as I can.

So, my questions are: how likely are you to buy raffle tickets online for charity? Tickets will be $5ea or 5 for $20. Money would need to be sent via paypal or check or money order and tickets would be sent as soon as funds cleared. 100% of proceeds of the raffle will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

I'd try Craigslist, and adding in what the potential prizes are...also make sure you add a phone number or some way to verify that it's legit - there's tons of scammers on CL anymore. :) Good luck.

I might buy them if I knew the person, but I wouldn't buy them from someone randomly (the way I would if someone knocked on my door)

Thanks, smkie! :)

I would consider it. What are the prizes? ;)
Hah! That will be announced soon. ;) Is it because you "know" me? Or are you just one that really likes to donate to charity? Or? Thanks for your input. :)

It will be on my blog and I'm thinking of having a website put together about it, all of the prizes will be described in full detail, along with pictures, etc..
I hadn't thought of craigslist actually. I was hoping word of mouth and promotion would get desired results. I'll have to think about using CL. Thanks!

Thanks for your input! Why would you not buy them? The reason I've asked is because I want to think of this from every angle before executing it. Thanks. :)

Being TOTALLY honest here... I would buy from YOU or other people I know on Chaz or other boards... but I wouldnt buy from some random person on CL or another internet site... I would be worried that it was a scam because there are just too many out there.

Thanks! I totally get people being worried about scams. Which is why I would hope some word of mouth got around as well.

Gift certificates from Mordy, Zoom, my etsy shop; jewelry from Sparky and my shop; some dog items ( I haven't received them yet so I don't know) and a GC from an artist for a cartoon drawing. I think there is more, but without my list that is the best I can do off the top of my head. :)

Thanks!

Now, would you (all of you) rather just donate (there is a website) or would you want to buy raffle tickets because you could potentially win an awesome prize? Either way, the money is sent directly to the LLS and the buyer will receive a tax donation thingy.

Hyia wants to send a donation with her money. I will try to add to it and have it in your mailbox soon.

I have participated in raffles on the my little pony boards for years. Usually only with members who have been around though.

Make a nice sig that takes people to a site about it and join a ton of forums and post like crazy:p

I always see people outside drug mart and wal mart etc raising money for one thing or another. If its local by you that might be the best idea.

If you made a nice sig and a nice blog site to go to you could have us put it in our sigs on other forums to. Just get more people to see it.

Bless her heart. Don't you worry about adding to it, smkie. ((hugs))

I don't think you can get tax donations for raffles? Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought it was only if you got nothing in return.
Hmm. Not everyone will get something in return, though. I will ask again, because I was told it was okay, but maybe that person wasn't clear.

check your local laws and any interstate commerace laws that could apply . i am wanting to say i remember a lawsuit here a couple years ago over someone not having some sort of proper permit to do a raffle.

the details are cloudy , but seriously check your laws
