That was the bomb that hit us this morning in the vet's office.

I am so broken right now, and faced with decisions that I have to make, but do not even think I can muster up the brain power or focus, to make right now.

She's nauseous because of the lymphoma. And the prognosis is NOT good.
Because it's already spread to her organs. It's made it to her liver and spleen, at least, that he knows of.

Oh jesus christ. I can barely type this.

Since she did not respond to the prednisone (which the dosage was set to treat this), it's not good at all.

We will be going to an oncologist to get an evaluation. Our vet has seen and been successful treating several of his patients with lymphoma with prednisone. But Ella didn't respond to it, which, as I said, is not a good sign.

And that is the update. I'm trying to get myself together, so that I can look into a diet for her, because as it is right now, she cannot hold food down. She has to eat a homecooked, bland diet.
And that's NOT going to get better.
He gave us medicine to help with that.

I am so broken right now, and I'm trying NOT to be. You know, part of my brain is like, "He doesn't know what the hell he's talking about!"
I'm thinking all kinds of crazy crap like, "He's LYING to us!!!" or "Maybe they gave us the wrong dog's lab results."
Because surely this is not happening to Ella.
Just a month ago she was playing outside, running, walking, doing springpole, and walking on the treadmill.
How the HELL would it have spread sooo fast???

But now she cannot even hold food down. Now her tummy is bloated. Now she sleeps all the time.

I cannot type anymore about this right now.

I apologize in advance for any typos or anything that may sound like emotional nonsensical jibberish crap.

I'm so so sorry. (((((hugehugs))))) Did he say if there are alternate treatments? Or is it just the prednisone?

There are other treatments, but he honestly does NOT think they're going to do much for her due to how far it has spread. And how FAST it has spread.

And we do not know which treatment route we are going to go right now.
Just finding out about all of this at 10 am, it just, we just cannot make that decision right now.

I will tell you this:
Without treatment, she doesn't have more than 2 months left with us.

Jesus christ. I cannot type about this right now.

I'm so, so sorry, this is what I've been afraid of all along :(

We've treated 3 dogs for lymphoma this year, using chemotherapy. One survived - thrived, even - for a good 8 or 9 months before he had to be put down. He was treated for 6-7 months and then was in remission for a couple months before it came back. Thw other two are still in treatment and doing well. Chemo isn't something that people generally try with their dogs, but it does seem to help A LOT. Dogs also tolerate chemo much better than people do. Very few side effects. It's not a cure, but it does give them several months, sometimes even years.

Lymphoma is one of those things that pops up so fast. Pred usually only works for a couple months, tops, if it works at all.

It is so incredibly unfair how these things happen. You and Ella are in my prayers. I can relate to what you are going through and it's so tough. I sure hope the oncologist can give you some hope for some sort of recovery for her. How soon until she is seen by the oncologist?

Sadie, my best friends pit had lymphoma and with chemo got another year or so of good times and decent health. She handled the chemo really well.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope that Ella lives the rest of her life, no matter how short, as loved as she has lived it so far. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Oh crap! I am so terribly sorry and sad for you. I remember the devestation I had when hearing about Lyric's cancer. It absolutely slammed me. It is just a horrific thing. And takes so long to come to an acceptance of even the smallest magnitude. My thoughts are with you and Ella. And I hope you find the strength to help you through this. So very, very sorry.
