All there is to say to you at this time is that I am so very sorry for you and what you face. Know that when you go to do this you are not alone your circle of friends here go in with you even if only in thought and spirit. We will be beside you helping you cope too.
When you are ready to talk we will be here to listen.
Take care and I am proud of you and your dicission.
Again I am sorry things are going this way for you and your little one but you are giving him a final gift of love.

I don't know you as I am new..but I would never wish this decision on anyone....sorry about your dog...I did not write this but it helped me at a bad time in my life also...hope it will give you some comfort...:(

o The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

I am in the same position as you with a dog with a hurt back but in Boogers case she has little or no pain for the most part but we kjnow in the next year or two she will have to be put to sleep. My heart bleeds for you expecially since i will get to keep my girl while you have to lose your boy. ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) Im truely sorry

I am so sorry for your loss and I want to ease your mind a little...I have a very good friend with a doxie that had the same thing happen and she opted for surgery...after weeks and weeks there was still no improvement and the poor little guy died of heart failure...so, don't second guess yourself or your vet. My friend wishes that she would have let him go much sooner so he would not have had to endure the pain for so long. I also just had to put a Beagle to sleep for the same problem. I weighed the options and he was not a candidate for surgery and I just couldn't see him sitting in a puddle of urine until I had an opportunity to put him into a cart...quality of life is more important. As painful as your decision is, it was made with love and your dog will appreciate that. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.
