I haven't been on in a while but yesterday my 9 year old miniature dachshund hurt his back pretty bad or something. Something herniated and now he can't use his rear legs and the vet said that the best choice for me would be to him down. Hardest choice I've ever made but I can't let him suffer. Ugh...why does stuff like this have to happen. So tonight I'm going to go have my dog euthanized and I'm going to be there with him until the last second. I'm than having him cremated and putting up a shrine for him at my house. The least I can do for my first dog and 9 years of loyal friendship...

What's worse is that he raised my golden retriever and now my golden is going to be heart broken. This is just not a good chain of events...

I am so sorry. (((hugs))) I admire you for going there and being with your dog until the end, and I'm sure he'll feel better for it.

I know how awful you feel and can only offer my deep sympathy for your pain. They always take a piece of us with them, but in turn they leave a piece of themselves behind in our hearts.

Oh, Shred . . . I'm so sorry to hear that. I remember how hard you fought for your dogs when your neighbor was trying to cause you so much trouble. You've given your little fella everything he could ever want - and all the love in the world. This is hard - but it's something that only someone who truly loves can do. It hurts like crazy though.

Renee you've been one of the people that have helped me so much ever since I came on to this forum from changing my dog's diet to helping him in general. Thank you so much.

I've had some great times with Carry and now I guess its time for him to go. I'll just have to let go even though it hurts. His memory won't ever leave. I'm going to go get another miniature dachshund in his memory.

Thank you everyone for you kind words of sympathy.

The vet said its an option but not a good quality of life for him and his age makes it so that after all the surgery probably wouldn't help him at all. He said that everything is just going to go downhill from here. I can't have my dog suffering.

Oh my gosh! I am soo sorry, I had to put down my dog not too long ago too. It is a very hard desision. But if that is what is best for him, you probably should do it, so he no longer hurts. :'( Your Golden will comfort you. :) you will have much comfort, with the other people around you to. I am sorry. I hope all goes well.

Oh, Sweetheart! This is without doubt a time you will remember as heartbreaking for the rest of your life. If your pup can cope with wheels give ita try. If not be with him at the very end so the last thing he sees is your face - smiling. Oh god. I can type that so easily. 'Say goodbye with a smile on your face' but I know for sure I couldn't do it myself.

Do the best you can and then be happy the wee pupper had a good life. Thinking of you through this thing you have to do and seriously not looking forward to my turn. ((((hugs))))
